Father Broom at his Friday evening Perseverance Group presents God’s gifts to us in the Sacrament of Baptism. We receive the dignity of the adopted sons and daughters of God. We become a child of the Father and a brother or sister of Jesus Christ. We are freed from Original Sin. We become heirs of the Heavenly Kingdom. Mary is our Mother.

We receive the theological virtues- Faith Hope and Charity.

We receive the Four Moral Virtues – Justice Temperance Prudence Fortitude.

Father concludes by asking us to celebrate our Baptism Day and the Baptism Day of our children. We should praise and thank God for this great gift- our Baptism.

I AM A LEPER, JESUS HEAL ME!

Father Broom preaches on Luke 5:12-16 – The healing of the man full of leprosy. Father describes his own experiences with lepers. What suffering lepers have: physical pain, the ugliness of their bodies, the cruel words and actions of people who hate them.

There is also the leprosy of sin, which we all have. This leprosy deforms our soul, causes us to feel distant from God’s presence and love, and could cause us to despair. There is a healing for us in the great Sacrament of Confession if each of us would say: I am a leper, Heal Me Jesus. We will be healed – We will be restored in the loving Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Sin is Slavery! Sin is Addiction! Sin is Death! There is a Remedy

Father Broom talks to the Confirmation students about the horror that sin is – slavery – addiction – death. These are all things that no one wants or would wish on anyone. Praise God that there is remedy for sin. We have the Sacraments – especially Confession and Holy Communion – to restore us and to strengthen us. Sin is slavery but God’s way is freedom. Lets experience God’s freedom and infinite mercy instead of the servitude of sin.

SIN! DEADLY ENEMY! MORTAL ENEMY!

Father Broom speaks to the Confirmation boys (mostly 8th graders).

He brings home the eternal consequences of sin but also the effects it can have in our lives and in the lives of our families. He encourages the boys to avoid temptation and to avoid sin. He reminds them of God’s mercy available to them in the great Sacrament of Confession. He tells them that Confession is one of the best ways to be forgiven and to receive the graces to avoid sin. Sin is curative…. but it is also preventative.
