Father Broom explains the origin of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus beginning with the Blessed Virgin Mary who formed the heart of Jesus. He draws from Sacred Scripture to show both the implicit and explicit references to the Sacred Heart- Burning Furnace of Charity. He explains the role of St. Margaret Mary Alacogue and her spiritual director, St. Claude Columbiere. He shows the similarities and differences between the Sacred Heart devotion and the Divine Mercy devotion.

Father Ed Broom, OMV, is Associate Pastor of St. Peter Chanel Church in Hawaiian Gardens, California. Gospel Passage: Mark 11: 11-26 The fig tree with no fruit.
Jesus curses the fig tree for not producing fruit – even though it isn’t fig season. Father Broom in his homily on June 1,2012 draws a parallel between us and the fig tree. We are never to be out of season in our spiritual life. We must bear fruit year round! We have a mission to always give greater honor and glory to God and work for the Salvation of souls. That means we are generous with all of our talents in all seasons.

Father Broom’s Homily on Tuesday 5/29/12 Gospel of St. Mark 10:28-31.

Peter asks “We have given up everything and followed you”. We are just like Peter… he is asking what is to become of us? Are we consumed by worry and therefore not growing in holiness? Listen to hear how we can grow in holiness which is our reason for being here.
