Father Broom draws three lessons from this short Gospel

1) Do not give what is holy to the dogs… no pearls before swine.. when our belief in God weakens we find other gods….

2) The Golden Rule – a practical guide to living

3) The Road to destruction is wide and easy and many enter it. The Road to Heaven is constricted and steep. The Gate is narrow.

St. John the Baptist – Martyred by evil King Herod for defending God’s Law.

St. John Fisher – Bishop and Martyr – and St. Thomas More – Father, Husband, Statesman, Author and Martyr – both martyred for defying the attack on the Catholic Church by apostate King Henry VIII.

Father Broom shows that these brave holy men died to preserve religious freedom. Our Faith and our beliefs are under attack today – just as they were in the 1st Century and the 16th Century.

All Holy Martyrs – Pray for us!

He is the Patron of youth, of students and of Jesuit novices. He was a brilliant student but died at 23 while a Jesuit seminarian. He contracted the plague while treating the infirm and dying and passed away a short time later. He received his First holy Communion form St. Charles Borromeo and his spiritual director was St. Robert Bellarmine.

When he was a child, St Charles Borromeo told him there were three practices
necessary to become a saint. Father Broom shows us that all three practices are readily available to us today.
