Father Broom gives us three intentions to beg for at every Mass.

The First is to pray for the souls in Purgatory. St. Nicholas of Tolentino was devoted to this intention.

The Second is to pray for the conversion of sinners – perhaps someone in our own family who is far from God.

The Third is to beg God for the grace of our own conversion… of our own transformation into a great saint.

Father Broom preaches on Matthew 16:13-23 – Thursday. August 9, 2012.

Jesus asks the Apostles “but who do you say I am?”

Our Lord asks us the same question – who is Christ to me? The Bread of Life? The Good Shepherd? The Faithful Friend who never fails? The Son of the Living God? Son of Mary? Second Person of the Blessed Trinity? Healer? Preacher? Miracle Worker?

Who is He to me? What is my personal relationship with Him?

Father Broom preaches on the feast of St Lawrence, August 10,2012.

This great saint was a Deacon of Rome in the 3rd Century. He refused the order of the pagan government that he give all of the Church’s money and property to the government. Instead he sold it all and gave the money to the poor. The he showed the governor the poor of Rome and said “this is the church’s treasure”.

For his boldness and faithfulness he was executed by slow burning on a hot grill…after a while he said “turn me over I am done on this side!”

As he died he prayed that all of Rome would be converted. Within 50 years of his death all of Rome was converted.
