Father Broom preaches on the Feast Day of St. Francis Xavier Cabrini – Mother Cabrini. The Saints are the friends of God. Their lives were spent loving God. Because they loved God totally they lived lives dedicated to the Works of Mercy – Corporal and Spiritual.

Which of these works is God calling me to today? Ask Mother Cabrini, Mother Teresa, St. Francis, St, Vincent De Paul… ask the great St. John Bosco what is the specific Work of Mercy I can carry out in my life.

Father Broom in his Mass homily on November 12, 2012 shows us how to grow in the Grace of God. Grace is participating in the Divine Life of God. We grow in Grace when we pray fervently, practice charity (the corporal and spiritual works of mercy), practice penance, and go to Holy Mass and receive Holy Communion. When we lose the Divine Life of Grace by committing a mortal sin, we can be restored quickly to Grace by the Sacrament of Confession.

We want to beg for today to be open to every Grace God gives us. Our model is the Blessed Virgin Mary who always said “YES” to every Grace God sent her.

Father Broom preaches on Mark 12:38-44. Do we trust in God? Will we give all of our self, our energy, our time and talent? Will we give of our substance not just our surplus?

Blessed Mother Teresa said give until it hurts. What are we holding back? What is it in us that we will not give to God?

Father Broom’s Sunday Homily on November 11, 2012 – Mark 12:38-44 – The Widow’s Mite

The poor widow is remembered and exalted by Jesus Christ for all eternity! God can do great things with small people like us who have small gifts if we have hearts of great generosity. If little people like us have generosity with courage to give all to God like this widow and the widow who met Elijah, God can make us into great Saints! But we must trust in Him…. be not afraid! Give Him everything… hold nothing back! ‘

Father Broom has spoken often about our Pope Benedict’s call for us to live a Year of Faith. He issued that call on October 11, 2011 in his Apostolic Letter, “Porta Fidei”. That document is available here:

Father talks today on the practical steps to implement this Year of Faith. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has issued its document on Recommendations for the Year of Faith. Their recommendations are available here:
http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20120106_nota-anno-fede_en.html

Their recommendations are broken down into four categories with ten recommendations each:
1) Universal Church
2) Episcopal Conferences
3) Diocesan
4) Parish

Father Broom today explains the ten recommendations for the Universal Church.
