ENVY! WHAT IS IT? WHY DO WE HAVE IT? HOW DO WE OVERCOME IT?

Father Broom preaches on Sunday, October 21 – the Gospel of Mark 10: 35-45.
The Apostles St. James and St. John try to advance themselves in the Kingdom…the other ten Apostles are not happy about their attempted self promotion. The ten have envy and so do we!

What is envy? Why do we all have it? How do we overcome it?

Unchecked jealousy can lead to envy which leads to anger which leads to hatred which can even lead to murder. Read Genesis 4 – Cain and Abel.

Father Broom’s homily is a short course in this ugly capital sin that we all have.

MY CHARISM IN THE YEAR OF FAITH – Perseverance Talk 10/19/12

Father Broom talks about the Year of faith. We are all called to study the four major documents of Vatican Two and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

But each of us has a specific charism within that call to study. Perhaps it is to study and learn more about the Sacraments, or Church history, or Apologetics. Some of us are called to learn all the Church teaches on Bio Ethics or Catechetics….Some of us are called to learn more about Mary and the Saints. The CCC gives a brilliant survey of the field of Moral Theology in its coverage of the Ten Commandments.

Some of us are called to learn more about Ingnatian Spirituality. We could spend time learning about other spiritual systems – Salesian, Carmelite, Franciscan etc.

We should each beg for the grace to use this Year of faith well and to discover our own individual charism… our own area of interest.

Father Broom preaches on the Feast Day of St. Luke. October 18.

What talents this great Saint had. He was one of the four Evangelists. He was a physician. he was an artist and his favorite subject was Mary. He was literary genius, a missionary, and he was a close friend of St. Paul and of Mary. He received the great gift of martyrdom – he gave his life for Christ.

AUTHENTIC FOLLOWERS OF JESUS CHRIST

Father Broom preaches on Galatians 5:18-25 and Luke 11:42-46 – What are the fruits of the Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, and self control. If we are authentic followers of Jesus Christ, these fruits will be evident in us. Jesus calls the Pharisees “Hypocrites” – they have none of these fruits… they are false followers of God.

Father Broom preaches at the opening Mass of the Confirmation program for this Catechetical year.

HOLY MASS -What a privilege it is to attend! What happens at Mass? What should our attitude be? How can we be more reverent, more grateful, more
involved in this Gift of Gifts that Our Lord provided for us.

If we receive Jesus with true love and reverence in Holy Communion at Mass,
he will receive us into Heaven for all eternity.
