Father Broom preaches on the Gospel of John 2:13-22 on the Feast Day of the Dedication of Saint John Lateran. Stop defiling the Temple – Stop making my Father’s House a marketplace. Father explores the many meanings and usages of “temple” in Scripture and in our Faith.

We ourselves are a Temple of the Living God by the grace of our Baptism. Because we are that Temple we must remember the two D’s – our dignity and our destiny. Our dignity as sons and daughters of the living God and our destiny which is Heaven!

Father Broom speaking to his Friday evening Perseverance Group tells us how even little people with small resources and generous hearts can become great saints. He uses examples from the Bible – the Widow’s Mite, Gideon, and little David against mighty Goliath, and lives of the Saints, St. Therese and Blessed Mother Teresa to show how even the small and insignificant can do great things got God. We might be small people with few talents and resources but with a generous heart we can be great saints!

Father Broom preaches on Luke 15:1-10. The Pharisees say “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them”. Our Lord gives them the parable of the lost sheep and the lost coin. God’s Mercy and love for the lost.

Father gives several other Gospel examples of the Mercy of Jesus…the woman at the well, the woman caught in adultery etc. Jesus preached and practiced mercy. He extends His mercy to us every day so that we can become as merciful as the Heavenly Father is merciful.

PROTESTANTS? CATHOLICS? WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

Don’t we all believe the same things? NO! Father Broom in his homily highlights three of the critical differences between Catholicism and Protestantism.

1) The Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist – we have it – they don’t.

2) We are saved by Faith and Works – they only stress Faith – Once saved always saved is their motto but we work out our salvation in fear and trembling.

3) Purgatory – we believe in it and in praying for the dead, they don’t

APOSTOLIC ZEAL

“Give me souls and take all the rest away!” St. John Bosco

“The measure of love is to love without measure” St. Francis De Sales

If we love God, we love what He loves. He loves souls. How can we bring more people to Him? Who can we bring to Mass? Do we have zeal for souls like Don Bosco?

We are filled with gratitude for the gift of the Eucharist in our lives. We must share it! We must bring others!
