Father Broom continues his series of talks on Temptations and How to Overcome Them at his Friday evening Perseverance Group. Father gives several practical tactics to thwart temptations. St. Ignatius would say we are soldiers and must be brave, resolute, and strong against the enemy. Our success will rest on our choice of allies…..the Saints, the Angels, our Guardian Angel, St. Joseph, the Terror of Demons, and most of all Mary, Most Pure…. the tempter can not remain in her presence.

Father Broom preaches on the vices of jealousy and envy….. one is more ugly than the other. When we allow ourselves to be envious what we are doing is rejoicing in the misfortunes of those whom we envy and feeling sad about their successes or blessings.

The contrary virtue is fraternal charity. When we have charity we can say with St. Paul: “Rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep.”

Father Broom preaches on the Gospel of Lazarus and the Rich Man.

The rich man (who has no name) ends up in Hell – more for what he didn’t do than what he did do. Sins of Omission.

What am I failing to do in my prayer life? What acts of charity towards my neighbor am I neglecting? Where is my apostolic zeal so weak that I am not constantly striving to save souls? What am I not doing?
