May 13, 2016 On this Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, Father Ed Broom gives a moving and inspiring talk on the six apparitions of Our Lady, who identified herself as Our Lady of the Rosary, to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal beginning May 13, 1917 and ending October 13, 1917. Father Ed covers the historical times, the children, the vision of hell, the miracle of the sun, the prophesies and promises of Our Lady. With Father Ed’s gift for painting word images, we see three good children – Lucia age 10 and her two cousins, Francisco age 9 and Jacinta age 7 – transformed into three saintly children whose hearts burn with love for Jesus and Mary, and the salvation of souls. Our Lady promised these three children they would go to heaven! Francisco and Jacinta died within three years of the apparitions. They were beatified by Pope Saint John Paul II on May 13, 2000 (see his homily on the occasion of their beatification). Lucia died February 13, 2005 at age 97.
Our Lady of Fatima’s message is a message for our times! Our Lady’s message and the story of these three children are guaranteed to fortify your faith, renew your hope, and stir your heart to a deeper love for Jesus and Mary and zeal for souls through daily recitation of the Rosary and offering the small and large sacrifices of our daily lives to Mary for the salvation of souls! Our Lady gave the children this prayer that we pray after each decade of the Rosary: “O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of your mercy!”
