Fr Ed Broom calls us to offer Communions of reparation; see if you can offer a communion of reparation for all the sins of the world, but most specifically for the sins against the Sacred Heart of Jesus, who is truly present in every Mass!  Receive communion with greater fervor, with love!

One of the most famous images in the catholic world is the  image of the Sacred Heart. In the most famous apparition, Jesus appears to St Margaret Mary Alacoque in Paray le Monial with his heart on fire, surrounded by thorns, and he says: “Behold the heart that loves so much, and receives only indifference and ingratitude in return. Console my heart.” That is the heart of the message. This was 1673, more than 300 years ago. According to Pope Francis, in his Lenten message, what is one of the biggest maladies of the modern world? He says: The globalization of indifference. There is a dense cloud of indifference that is descending on the world and even among catholics. We are breathing the air of indifference and tepidity and it rubs off on us. I want to invite all of you to receive communion with greater fervor. This is what Jesus wanted St Margaret Mary Alacoque to do. Offer Communions of reparation. See if you can offer a communion of reparation. For all the sins of the world, but most specifically for the sins against the Sacred Heart of Jesus, who is truly present in every Mass.

MASS HOMILY – PERSECUTED FOR CHRIST

Father Ed Broom quotes a brother Oblate priest: If we live the first seven Beatitudes, as a reward, we get the eighth Beatitude! “Blessed are those who are persecuted for my sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven!” If we are really living the Faith, then as we heard in the Parable today, there’s going to be persecution. We shouldn’t be surprised; we shouldn’t be taken off guard. Rather, we should be ready for it. Where does the persecution come from? Often it comes from within our families. Father Broom describes various ways that persecution may be expressed. We may be called to suffer in silence, but we may also be called to defend ourselves, for their sake! Father Broom suggests ways to defend ourselves calmly, using right reason. In the end he says, if you are persecuted for Christ’s sake, rejoice because your names are written in Heaven!

In this brief homily, Father Ed Broom challenges us with this: I’m NOT OK, and you’re NOT OK. But we can be OK, and Father Broom shows us how.

CALLED TO BE MISSIONARIES IN THE MODERN WORLD

Father Ed Broom begins his message with the Saint of the Day – Saint Augustine of Canterbury, the missionary of England. He was instrumental in the conversion of England from Anglo-Saxon paganism in the year 597 A.D. Today we live in neo-paganism and the big cities are our mission territory.

St. Peter says in his epistle to be serious and sober minded. What does that mean? It means to be like Mary; she pondered the Word of God in her heart. And the Word, Jesus Christ gave us a new commandment: “Love one another as I have loved you!” For Catholics the most important virtue is love. Faith comes first in operation, you can’t love someone you don’t know, but love is the greatest. We can expiate a multitude of sins by loving. Jesus showed us what true love is. Love is sacrifice. Love is willing the good of another. The greatest good for another is their salvation! If we can draw others closer to Christ and their eternal salvation, that’s love!

Jesus cursed the fig tree because it was not fruitful. Jesus is the vine and we are the branches; we are called to be fruitful at all times! Let us pray for the grace to be modern day missionaries and bring many souls to Christ!
