Father Broom gives the opening talk at the St. Peter Chanel Parish Advent Retreat on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

His talk is a testimonial to the role Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, has played in his life.

She formed him, led him, protected him, shielded him, and developed his vocation to the priesthood and to religious life in the Oblates of the Virgin Mary. Father Broom has spoken often on the theological meanings of Mary’s role in salvation. He has expounded well on the four Marian Dogmas.
He has led many people to Consecration to Jesus through Mary according to St. Louis De Montfort. But in the end, it is a deep mother and son relationship that shines forth with their mutual love for each other.

Father Broom knows that if we love her, she will guide us to Heaven where we will be with her and the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for all eternity.

Father Ed Broom OMV is a member of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary and is Associate Pastor at St. Peter Chanel Church in Hawaiian Gardens California.

Father Broom talks to the children in 3rd though 7th grade Catechism classes at their Mass for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. We are at the Vigil of the Immaculate Conception. We are only a few days away from the great Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

We are preparing for the great joy of Christ’s Birth in just a few weeks…. and who wants to rejoice with us? It is Mary… she is the Cause of Our Joy since she is the one who brings Jesus to us on Christmas morning. It was her “YES” to God’s request that brought the Incarnation present in the World!

She is the Cause of Our Joy!

“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices on God my Savior.”

Father Broom talks at his Friday evening Perseverance Group about Our Lady of Guadalupe whose feast day we celebrate on December 12. She is the Patroness of all the Americas from Canada to Tierra del Fuego!

He gives us a portrait of Juan Diego and his historical times. He retells the story of each of the five appearances of Our Lady – Four to Juan Diego and one to his Uncle.

Miracles upon miracle results from this visit by the Blessed Virgin Mary. Because of her appearance on El Tepeyac, 3,000 native Mexicans are converted every day for nine years! A Pentecost everyday for nine years. This is the largest mass conversion in history. That is only one of the beautiful miracles Mary brought about as a result of this apparition.

AND THE GREATEST OF THESE IS LOVE

Father Broom preaches on Matthew 7:21, 24-27.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord,Lord’, will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in Heaven.”
Faith – Hope – Charity
We must have Faith… we must have Hope… but the greatest of these is Charity! What is charity? It is DOING the will of the Father. It is manifest in our actions…Faith without works is dead.

We must love the poor. practice the works of mercy, carry out the will of the Father in the work of saving souls. St. John of the Cross says: “In the twilight of our lives, we will be judged on love.”

He also says: ““Where there is no love, put love – and you will find love.”

CONTEMPLATING JESUS CHRIST

St. Ignatius of Loyola in the Spiritual Exercises tells us to beg for these graces:
TO KNOW CHRIST MORE INTIMATELY so that we might
LOVE HIM MORE ARDENTLY and thereby
FOLLOW HIM MORE CLOSELY

Our Holy Father, Benedict XVI, has given us the Year of Faith and he wants us to experience a deep personal knowledge and love of Jesus Christ.

Father Broom in his homily on Matthew 15:29-37 helps us see the qualities of Christ so that we know Him and imitate Him. He is a healer.. a teacher… a shepherd…a miracle worker… a man of compassion and mercy…He works with others and accepts their help… He is meek and humble of heart. We see Him, we hear Him we watch His face as he talks… we will come to know Him. And to love Him. And to follow Him.
