Father Broom preaches on Luke 1:26-38 – The Annunciation – the Gospel for Thursday, December 20. Father Broom focuses on one of Mary’s qualities in this homily – her docility to God. She is open to God’s will and the inspirations of the Holy Spirit.

Father Jacques Philippe in his book “In the School of the Holy Spirit” says that our sanctity depends on our docility to the inspirations of the Holy Spirit. Are we open to those inspirations? Are we supple and pliable to the gentle nudges we receive from the Holy Spirit?

Mary is our model….. she is always ready with her YES to the Holy Spirit.

JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD MADE MAN

Father Broom speaks to the Confirmation boys (mostly 8th graders) about the Incarnation – God made man in the person of Jesus Christ. It is less than a week until Christmas.

The quality and value of our Christmas he tells the boys will vary to the extent we put Jesus at the center of this holy day. If He is cast to the side, our Christmas will be dim and uninspired. When He is at the center -we have the fullness of life and the fullness of joy.

THE GIFT OF LIFE BE OPEN TO IT!

Father Broom preaches on Luke 1:5-25 – the revelation to Zechariah about the coming of John the Baptist. This Gospel and all of Luke Chapters 1 and 2 remind us to welcome life, to be open to it.

We live in a society immersed in both the practice of contraception and a contraceptive mentality. These errors are caused by viewing children as a burden, a problem, an interruption to life. Holy Scripture only speaks of children as a blessing. We should examine ourselves on our own openness to life.

NEED A QUICK ANSWER TO YOUR PRAYERS? ST. JOSEPH IS YOUR MAN!

Father Broom preaches on the great St. Joseph. This man was entrusted by God the Father to protect and provide for Mary, the Mother of God, and her son, Jesus Christ, the God-Man. What a responsibility! When God calls us to great works, he provides all the graces we need. How grace filled Joseph must have been.

St. Joseph is the universal patron.. he can help with all of our prayer intentions. St. Teresa of Avila, who had a deep devotion to him, said that not only did he answer all of her requests but that he did it quickly. Other saints might answer, she said, but they took their time. But the response of St. Joseph was immediate.

St. Joseph is the patron of a holy and happy death since he died in the arms of Mary and Jesus. That is exactly where we all want to die.

Father Broom preaches on Matthew 1:1-17 – The Genealogy of Jesus Christ.

So many names! But the most important is the Holy Name of Jesus.

At the Name of Jesus every knee in Heaven on earth and under the earth shall bend.

Praise His Holy Name!
