MARY’S MESSAGE TO US: ALWAYS SAY “YES” TO LIFE

Father Broom preaches on the 4th Sunday of Advent. The Gospel is Luke 1:39-45 – The Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth. Mary goes “in haste” to assist Elizabeth…. they are both miraculously with child. A young girl of 14 with a pregnancy that to the world seems unexplained…..a woman past the normal years of child bearing. In today’s world, they would both be candidates for an abortion.

But Mary rejoices in the Lord and Elizabeth rejoices at Mary’s greeting. John in her womb leaps for joy and he is sanctified by the presence of the God Man in Mary’s womb. This gospel helps us see that all life from the moment of conception until natural death is a precious gift from God.

Mary’s word is always “YES” to life.

If it is not too late to shop for Christmas, it is not too late to prepare spiritually for Christmas. Father Broom speaks on December 23 with suggestions on our preparation to have the holiest Christmas of our lives.

We should beg for greater gratitude for the blessings God has poured out upon us. We should beg for the grace to receive the Sacraments of Confession and Holy Communion more frequently, more fervently and with greater faith.
What are the attachments in our lives that hinder Christ’s birth in the Bethlehem of our hearts?

Father Broom wishes that you would have the most holy Christmas of your life.

JOY! EVERYONE WANTS IT, BUT SOME ARE LOOKING IN THE WRONG PLACES!

Father Broom preaches on true joy. All human beings seek and search for joy but yet there are many people who have no joy. Why? Because they are looking for it in all the wrong places – possessions, honors, drugs, alcohol, pornography, gambling. They may find some pleasure in those activities but they will not find true joy. We can purchase pleasure but it doesn’t bring us joy. Father Broom gives five ways for each of us to find true joy.

Father Broom prepares the Confirmation boys (mostly 8th graders) for Christmas by talking about Jesus Christ. Who is he? Son of God made man.
Who was His mother? Mary Most Pure. He was Son of God and Son of Mary.

Father Broom explains how the students can take part in the Divine Life of God by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit through grace and by their fervent reception of Holy Communion. They can become like Christ… to have the mind and imagination of Christ. Christ should be their model.

THREE LESSONS FROM MARY OUR MOTHER

Father Broom preaches on Friday, December 21 on Luke 1:39-45 – the Visitation. He draws three lessons for us from this Gospel. The first one is that Mary has a harmony between her contemplative life and her active life. She is in prayer, in communion with God in the Annunciation and engages God in a dialogue through St.Gabriel. When she has received the Word of God within her… she becomes a beacon of charity… going in haste to help Elizabeth. Second, Mary is open to all of the inspirations of the Holy Spirit and is our model in docility. Third, she is filled with joy in her prayer and her active work.

May her prayer be ours:
“My soul doth magnify the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”
