This ambitious, fiery tempered fisherman becomes the beloved disciple who writes with such eloquence of the love of God and the love we must have for one another.

He left everything to follow Jesus and followed Him all the way to the foot of the Holy Cross. Jesus speaks about him and to him on Calvary. “Woman behold your son. Son behold your mother.” He was the chaplain of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Father wants us to become friends of the Saints so they can lead us to their friend, Jesus.

Father Broom preaches on December 28, the Feast Day of the Holy Innocents – Matthew 2:13-18. These innocent children (all under the age of two years) were slaughtered to slake the envy and hatred of Herod.

In our nation today, we have our own slaughter of millions of innocent defenseless babies in their mothers’ wombs. They can not escape the cruel tools of the abortionist. They can not defend themselves. We must be the ones to shield them… to save them, to treasure them. They are victims of our materialistic and self centered society. We must be the ones to love and protect them in every way that we can.

TRIUMPH OF THE INNOCENTS is the name of the painting in this podcast. These Holy Innocents are gathered around the Holy Family in the Flight into Egypt. The Triumph is theirs because now they see and love Christ for all eternity.

Father Broom preaches on the Feast Day of St. John the Evangelist – John Chapter 20. All of the preaching during the long life of St. John – the Beloved Disciple – can be summed up in that quote form Christ at the Last Supper: LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU!

When John put his head over the Sacred Heart of Jesus at the Last Supper, he discovered that “he who abides in love abides in God and God in him”.

Father Broom preaches on December 26 – the Feast Day of St. Stephen – the Protomartyr- the first one to die for the Name of Christ. We go from the joy of Christmas Day to the stoning of St. Stephen the next day. The name Stephen means “crowned”. He was crowned by a crown of rocks and won the crown of martyrdom.

Tertullian in the 2nd Century AD says “the blood of martyrs is the seed of the Church”. Saul of Tarsus abetted this martyrdom and perhaps the grace of seeing Stephen’s virtuous death softened his heart to God’s call later on.
