Father Broom preaches on the Feast Day of St. Basil the Great and St. Gregory Nazianzen – Both Doctors of the Eastern Church and best friends.
These men – with completely different personalities and temperaments – had a spiritual friendship that helped both of them become Saints.

Father Broom gives the qualities of spiritual friendship and explains how we can lead each other to Heaven. Spiritual friends pray for each other, are humble, are willing to give and receive fraternal correction. Such friends share spiritual treasures, strive to sanctify each other and most of all encourage each other especially in times of desolation.

Basil and Gregory, Francis and Clare, John Bosco and Joseph Cafasso, Francis de Sales and Jane Frances de Chantal, Paul and Timothy, Ignatius and Francis Xavier. Let’s form spiritual friendships for the Love of God, to Become Saints, and to Save Souls!

2013 THE BEST YEAR OF YOUR LIFE!

Father Broom gives a homily on New Year’s Day. One week ago on Christmas we celebrated the greatest gift in the universe… the gift of Jesus Christ in the stable at Bethlehem. Mary, the Mother of God, whom we celebrate today presented that gift to us.

To begin our New Year and to make it the best year of our lives, let’s give three gifts to Mary in our gratitude and love for her. Let’s present her with a clean heart – let’s fast from all sin in this year. Second, let’s give her the gift of kindness to one another. Let’s love and respect our family members every day. Third, lets give Mary the prayer she loves best… the daily Family Rosary led by the father of the family. The family that prays together stays together. A world at prayer is a world at peace.

If we do these three things, this will be the best year of our lives.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! HAPPY NEW LIFE!

We all wish everyone “Happy New Year!” But if we do not change both our spiritual and temporal life for the Honor and Glory of God, we are likely to have not a happy new year but the same old sad year we just finished.

Father Broom teaches us the Igantian art of making a Plan of Life/ Reform of Life. The Ignatian principle is that if we do not make concrete proposals to reform our life we will stay in the same rut and never progress in holiness and love of God. He identifies several areas for us to examine ourselves.

What will we do this year to grow closer to Mary? To become a more merciful person? To grow in love for the Sacraments? To grow closer to the Father Son and Holy Spirit? Let’s make our Plan of Life. Let’s make our Reform of Life.

HOLY INNOCENTS! PRAY AND WORK TO END ABORTION

Father Broom preaches a second homily on the Holy Innocents. His call is that we should pray and work to end abortion. Surgical and chemical abortion is our modern day slaughter of the Innocents… these innocent babies are defenseless and voiceless. We must be their voice and we must do all we can to defend them.

STRONG FATHERS PRODUCE STRONG FAMILIES! HOLY FATHERS PRODUCE HOLY FAMILIES!

Our families are in crisis. Father Broom preaches on the Feast Day of the Holy Family. There are many wolves today attacking the family – premarital sex, cohabitation, easy and widespread divorce, adultery, pornography, the promotion of same sex unions.

Father Broom hones in on one area where we can act to strengthen the family and thereby strengthen our society – fatherhood. We have a crisis in fatherhood and that weakens many many families. What are the qualities of a strong holy father? How can we support fathers in their mission?

To be a good father, the man must be a good son of God the Father. To have a family of faith a man must be a man of faith.

To be a good father, the man must love his wife. God is first in the marriage and the spouse is second and the children third. This is the correct order.

To be a strong and holy father, the man must love his children. He must provide for them materially AND spiritually.

Holy and Strong Fathers produce Holy and Strong Families and those families produce a society filled with God’s love, mercy and peace.
