Our Mission | Be Fishers of Men!

“Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Mark 1:14-20.

Our Lord was speaking in the Gospel to Simon, Andrew, John, and James and He was speaking to each one of us. He wants us to be fishers of men.

Father Broom lays out how we can accomplish this mission. What are the steps we need to take? What are the impediments? Why do we say “YES” but fail to carry through? God gives us the grace, Mary is ready to help us, all the Saints are cheering us on. All that is missing is our commitment.

Let our motto be that of the great St. John Bosco:

“Give me souls and take all the rest away”

Father Broom preaches on the Feast Day of the Baptism of the Lord. This is the weekly Mass for Confirmation students and their parents.

Father explains the Baptism of Jesus and all of the gifts of our own Baptism. We should celebrate our Baptism Day every year because that is the day we were Baptized in Water and the Spirit and were born again.

Thank God for the Baptism of Jesus

Thank God for your own Baptism

Thank God that He loves you so much and has given you all the gifts of holy Baptism.

Jesus Christ – Focus of Our Lives

Father Broom speaks to the Confirmation boys (mostly 9th graders) about the person of Jesus Christ. He must be the focus – the center of their daily life if they want to be happy and if they want to go to Heaven.

Father warns the boys of the dangers that can pull them away from Christ. He gives them to the tools to stay on track – daily prayer, frequent Mass and Communion, and frequent Confession.

Leadership in the Church – Being a Good Shepherd

Psalm 23 and John Chapter 10

“I am the Good Shepherd. I know my sheep and they know me”

Father Broom speaks to parish lay leaders on the qualities of being good shepherds to their sheep. A good shepherd knows his sheep by name. He feeds his sheep. He protects his sheep from the wolves that are set on destroying the sheep. A good shepherd loves his sheep, prays for them amd leads by example.

To be a good shepherd to the sheep we must be good sheep ourselves: good sheep to Jesus Christ – the Good Shepherd – good sheep to our Holy Father, Shepherd of the Church, and good sheep to our priests who lead us to safe pastures of heavenly salvation.
