Father Broom is preparing the Confirmation boys for Lent by teaching them about the Paschal Mystery of Christ. He describes the Last Supper and the Institution of both the Eucharist and the priesthood. He describes the Agony in the Garden and Christ’s Passion and Death.

He gives them examples of how they can unite their sufferings to the Passion of Christ.

Father Broom preaches on the Gospel Mark 4:26-34. The Parable of the tiny Mustard Seed that grows into a mighty bush. We received the tiny seed of Faith at our Baptism. Our parents tended that seed and made it grow. Now it is our job to nurture our faith and to grow it. With the proper care, it will blossom like the well cared for grapefruit seedling pictured here.

Father Broom talks to the Friday evening Perseverance Group about the Angelic Doctor, St. Thomas Aquinas. He was the greatest philosopher and theologian in the Church. He was a brilliant author and speaker. He grasped the most sublime truths about God, the Sacraments, and the human soul.

Yet he attributed his brilliant insights not to his fervent study but to the time he spent in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. Near the end of his life, he had a vision of Christ. The Lord told him to ask for any gift and he would give it to Thomas. His request? Only this: “Lord, give me the grace to love you more and more each day.”

Father Broom talks to the Confirmation students about the miracles of Christ that demonstrated his awesome invincible power. All the more amazing it that he went to His passion and Death of his own free will. With His power he could have prevented his torture easily. He suffered and died because He loved each of of us so much and wanted to save us from our sins.
