Father Broom gives a talk at the parish Lenten Retreat on Feb. 16, 2013.

In the midst of the storms, earthquakes, and chaos of our lives, we can find refuge in the words of our Lord: “Come to me all of you who are weary and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am meek and humble of heart. You will find rest for your souls for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matt 11:28-30

And we can find solace in the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The Call of St. Matthew. Follow me – What do those words mean to us.
Matthew followed immediately. Do I? Matthew invited others to Christ. Do I?
Matthew manifested God’s Mercy to others. Do I?

Father Broom speaks to his Friday evening Perseverance Group about the resignation of our beloved Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI. He also presents a brief history of the Papacy over the last 130 years. He shows us how God has raised up holy, talented, extraordinary Popes to meet the challenges of this modern age. Our good God will give us exactly the Pope we need now.

We must pray for Pope Benedict, for the conclave, and for our new Holy Father
who may be named and installed before Easter! Blessed John Paul II, Pray for us and the Church!

Father Broom shares a story from the life of Bishop Fulton Sheen that demonstrates the Power of the Hour of Power. Bishop Sheen accomplished great things and always attributed his success to the Hour of Power he spent every day with our Eucharistic Lord. Father also tells of St. Claude de la Columbiere and his faithfulness in prayer. That faithfulness helped him recognize the hand of God in the visions of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque.

Father Broom preaches on February 16, the Feast Day of St. Claude de la Colombière. He lived from 1641 to 1682 – 41 years. He was a faithful follower of St. Ignatius. He was the Confessor and Spiritual Director of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque who received the visions and message of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It was St. Claude who recognized the truth of her visions and thus helped spread this devotion to the whole world.
