Father Ed Broom begins his homily with a question: When do we find the Apostles sleeping in the Gospels? When they should have been praying! In the Garden of Gethesemane, Jesus asks them, “Couldn’t you watch with me one hour?” When is the only time we find Jesus asleep in the Gospels? In today’s Gospel! It’s ironic that when the storm descends upon the lake, when the boat is about to capsize and sink, Jesus is asleep. Father Broom points out that today’s Gospel is about trust, and he shows us what it means to trust Jesus in the storms of our lives.
