The Church teaches emphatically that Jesus gave His Mother Mary to us to be our Mother! “When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, ‘Woman, here is your son,’ and to the disciple, ‘Here is your mother.’ From that time on, the disciple took her into his home.”
Do we take Mary into our “home” – into our heart? Do we think of Mary and call on Mary to help us know Jesus more intimately, love Him more ardently, and follow Him more closely? We never have to worry about entrusting ourselves to Mary, our Heavenly Father entrusted His Son to her for 30 years! We never have to worry about loving Mary too much, we can never love her more than Jesus did! Mary will always take us to Jesus! The last recorded words of Mary in the Bible are: “Do whatever He tells you!”
There are two aspects to knowing and loving Mary and both are necessary to appreciate her role in our salvation, and indeed the salvation of the whole world. They are the two sides of one coin so to speak – without the one, the other is incomplete: Doctrine and Devotion. Doctrine without devotion remains an intellectual exercise. Whereas, devotion without doctrine falls into sentimentality and sometimes superstition. Today, Father Ed Broom speaks on the Marian Dogmas of the Church. He illuminates the unique and glorious role God Himself ordained for this humble woman of faith who said YES to an angel and became the Mother of God, and thereby the Mother of us all! THINK OF MARY, CALL ON MARY!
