In the Gospel, the rich young man asks Jesus: “What must I do to be saved?” Father Ed Broom reminds us, that’s why we’re here in this world – to be saved – to get to Heaven. May is the month of Mary, on May 13 we celebrate Our Lady of Fatima. Her message answers this question. Father Ed highlights one of the essential points of Our Lady of Fatima on salvation, looking at the person of Jacinta. On July 13, 1917 Our Lady showed the three children of Fatima – Jacinta, Francisco and Lucia – a very graphic vision of hell! Far from traumatizing them psychologically, it moved these children to the very depths of their souls and transformed them into saints. Jacinta was age 7, Francisco age 9, and Lucia age 10. Jacinta, aware of the reality of salvation and damnation – when you talk about salvation, you have to think about damnation, that is the other possibility – Jacinta did all that she could, all in her power as a little girl to collaborate with God in the salvation of souls. Listen as Father Ed paints the story of how Jacinta lived and sacrificed for love of God and love of souls. After we get over being embarrassed at our own lack of generosity, may this child, Blessed Jacinta Marto inspire us to do all that we can for the salvation of immortal souls for all eternity!
