Father Broom teaches us about St. Paul Miki and his twenty five companions who were crucified as martyrs in Japan in 1597. There was a thriving Cat5holic community in Japan by this time. This was made possible by the heroic missionary, St. Francis Xavier who had died only some 40 years before.
We are called to be missionaries in our families, our neighborhoods, our city, and to the whole world. St. Paul Miki and his companions marched to their deaths carrying the crosses on which they would be crucified. And all the time they marched they sang hymns and the psalms praising God.
Father Ed Broom OMV is a member of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary and is Associate Pastor at St. Peter Chanel Church in Hawaiian Gardens California.
