Father Broom describes this great Saint on his Feast Day, January 24. St. Francis was a man of many profound talents – a lawyer, a bishop, a spiritual writer, and a converter of thousands. He wrote “Introduction to the Devout Life” which promoted the Universal Call to Holiness and the “Treatise on Love” which are two classics.
But St. Francis de Sales is most well remembered for his Heart of Kindness
and Heart of Love. He prepared the way for our devotion to the loving Sacred Heart of Jesus. Great talents – yes! Great accomplishments – yes!
But his kindness to all and his great love for God and God’s people shine for all eternity.
Father Ed Broom OMV is a member of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary and is Associate Pastor at St. Peter Chanel Church in Hawaiian Gardens California.
