Who is the 1st American born Saint? Who founded the first American Catholic parish school? Who founded the first Catholic orphanage in America? Who founded the first religious community of women in the United States? Who was a spouse, a parent, and religious sister and a foundress? And who did all of this before dying at the age of 46? Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton! Mother Seton!
She was born an Episcopalian and a member of a very well to do New York family. By the good example of others, her discovery of the truth of the Holy Eucharist, and the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary she converted to Catholicism at the age of 31. All of those accomplishments were done in fifteen short years. Her conversion caused her to be disowned
by her family and thereby thrown into poverty. She persevered nonetheless.
If we cooperated with God’s graces the way she did, we would all be super saints!
