Father Broom explains the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to St. Catherine Laboure. Mary instructs Catherine in the design of the Medal of the Immaculate Conception which is known as the Miraculous Medal because of the many miracles associated with it.
One of those miracles is the conversion of Claude Newman, a convicted murderer, on death row. He wore the medal, Mary appeared to him, he was converted and so were all the other prisoners, even the most hardened one.
