10 CONSEJOS PARA CUIDAR EL ALMA ESTAS VACACIONES

La salud del cuerpo se ha convertido en una obsesión occidental. Cientos de recursos se ponen hoy a la mano de las personas para que lleven a cabo una “vida saludable” y en armonía con la naturaleza. Una vida que dure cien años, o más. ¿Para qué? Para viajar, hacer relaciones, conocer culturas exóticas, tener amigos, buscar lo mejor de lo mejor…

Poco se habla, sin embargo, de la salud del alma, misma que sostiene la salud del cuerpo. Un alma carcomida no puede ser sustento de un cuerpo usado para el bien, desgastado para el bien. Sobre este particular, considerando el cuerpo como un regalo de Dios y templo del Espíritu Santo, pongamos en práctica este decálogo importante para estos tiempos en los que comienzan las vacaciones.

  1. EVITAR EL DAÑO. Los padres ofrecen a sus hijos una serie de consejos para no hacerse daño físicamente. Y mientras más pequeños, más atentos están para que no se lesionen o se causen algún mal. Pero, ¿hacen lo mismo en el plano sobrenatural? Uno de los pecados, el de omisión, es justamente esto: ignorar el alma inmortal y no estar alerta a las situaciones de pecado. Evitar la ocasión cerca del pecado es una cualidad indispensable en nuestra búsqueda de la santidad y la adquisición de la corona de gloria que llamamos vida eterna.
  2. EVITAR LA CALUMNIA Y LAS HABLADURIAS. Seremos juzgados en la misma medida que juzgamos. Jesús dice que de la abundancia del corazón habla nuestra boca. Si el hábito formado es estar con chismosos, hay que cambiar, hay que evitar frecuentarlos. Los pecados de la lengua ensombrecen nuestra vida e impiden la virtud.
  3. USAR LA VESTIMENTA ADECUADA. Que nunca seamos ocasión de pecado para otros. Somos embajadores de Cristo, desde el Bautismo estamos investidos por la Gracia. Debemos vestir en consecuencia. Cuando decimos vestir adecuadamente, no nos referimos sólo en la Iglesia, como si fuera el único lugar en el que deben vestir con decoro y modestia, sino en todo tiempo y lugar. Nunca olvidemos: somos cristianos 24/7.
  4. EVITAR LAS MALAS COMPAÑIAS. San Pablo dice que las malas compañías corrompen la moral. El proverbio expresa sucintamente esta verdad: “Dime con quién andas y te diré quién eres”. No tenemos que ser científicos para saber que tenemos la tendencia a imitar a nuestros amigos y nuestros asociados. Reza por la gracia de encontrar un amigo o dos que sean nobles, puros, honestos; que trabajen duramente su cristianismo. La sabiduría del Antiguo Testamento nos enseña que quien encuentra un verdadero amigo, encuentra un tesoro.
  5. CUIDAR LA MIRAD. Otro proverbio es a propósito de este concepto: “La curiosidad mató al gato”. Peor aún, los ojos errantes de rey David resultaron en adulterio con Betsabé, y, finalmente, incluso mataron a su marido, el valiente y honesto soldado Urías, el hitita. El santo Job afirma: “He hecho un pacto con mis ojos: no mirar a una mujer”. Por último, Jesús exclama: “Bienaventurados los puros de corazón; ellos verán a Dios”. En un mundo con abundancia de imágenes impuras, hoy más que nunca necesitamos practicar la estricta custodia de los sentidos, ¡especialmente nuestros ojos!
  6. EVITAR LA IMPULSIVIDAD.. Otra actitud o disposición que hay que evitar es ser impulsivos en todos los sentidos, pero especialmente en el habla. Un buen proverbio: “Pensar antes de hablar”. A un nivel más espiritual, Santiago nos exhorta: “Debemos ser lentos para hablar y listos para escuchar”. Santo Tomás de Aquino ofrece esta importante idea: Dios nos ha dado dos oídos y una boca para escuchar el doble de lo que hablamos.
  7. ATENDER EL USO MEDIOS ELECTRONICOS. Es una urgencia actual, prestar atención a lo que hacemos con los medios electrónicos. Como lo dijo Fulton J. Sheen, podemos beber, fácilmente, y absorber con los ojos la basura moral que se nos ofrece como sucedáneo de diversión. Podemos tomar años y años para borrar de nuestra mente imágenes horribles que hemos visto en algún medio. ¿Para qué forzar la cosas hasta ese nivel? Nuestra mente es un inmenso archivo que almacena todas las experiencias, todo lo que hemos hecho, así como todo lo que hemos visto. Por lo tanto, hay que ser muy estrictos con nosotros mismos y con nuestros hijos en lo que traemos en nuestras mentes y corazones a través de lo que vemos.
  8. EVITAR EL SINDROME SOFA-PATATA. “La ociosidad es el taller del diablo”. En otras palabras, si tú no tienes nada que ver, entonces el diablo te dará un montón de cosas que hacer. San Juan Bosco tenía un miedo mortal al tiempo de vacaciones para los jóvenes-adolescentes. El trabajo es bueno para todos nosotros. El trabajo perfecciona nuestra naturaleza; nos ayuda a cultivar nuestros talentos. El trabajo sirve como un medio de ayudar a los demás. El trabajo era lo que Dios mandó a Adán después del pecado original: “Ganarás el pan con el sudor de tu frente”.
  9. EVITAR LA PEREZA MENTAL. Si algo no se utiliza, se pierde. Es un viejo consejo de los abuelos que sirve para los jóvenes. Dios nos ha dotado a todos con una mente que Él desea que cultivemos. En un jardín que no se cultiva bien, rápidamente crece la maleza. Una mente que no se cultiva, permite el crecimiento de las malas hierbas mentales. Esta pereza mental puede prevenirse o corregirse mediante el excelente hábito de la buena lectura. Nunca hemos vivido en un mundo con tanta confusión. Sin embargo, nunca hemos vivido en un mundo con tan buena literatura. Depende de nosotros encontrar buena literatura y formar el hábito de la lectura. Algunos de nuestros mejores amigos pueden ser buenos libros.
  10. VISITA A JESUS Y MARIA. En el Padrenuestro oramos: “danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día”. Esto se puede interpretar de una manera sacramental, como el hábito de ir a Misa todos los días y recibir a Jesús en la Santa Comunión, el verdadero Pan de Vida. Él nos ayudará a subordinar los deseos del cuerpo a la orden de la voluntad. También visita continuamente a María. Ella es la vía más corta para llegar a Jesús, la más rápida de todas las vías: es, en verdad, un atajo para llegar a su Hijo. Para estar unidos a Él. Nuestra Señora sirve como un puente para la unión con Jesús. Dice san Maximiliano Kolbe: “Ponte en manos de María; ella sabrá proveer a las necesidades del cuerpo y del alma.
