Fr. Ed gives an explanation of the Confiteor, Latin for “I confess”; it is the act of contrition which comes from St Augustine. In the Confiteor we say: I confess to almighty God and to you my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned. This is the 1st and longest prayer we say before the Gospel reading where we are humbly admitting that we are sinners. Through my fault, my fault, my most grievous fault, Lord I have sinned against you. Lord a humble and contrite heart you will not spurn. I have sinned in thought.
