CONTROLLING THE TONGUE | JAMES CHAPTER 3

Father Broom talks about the proper use of our tongue. We can build up and strengthen the Kingdom of God or we can tear it down with our tongue. We can praise God or we can would Him with our tongue.

Every day at Holy Mass our tongue becomes a throne for the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ received in Holy Communion. How sad it is to think of using that very same throne as a tool of cruelty, slander, gossip, or calumny. Our Blessed Mother only used her tongue to praise God, reverence God, and serve God. May she be our model always.

Father Broom explains the Seven Sorrows of Mary. Her heart was pierced seven times as if with seven swords. In her picture here we see those seven swords… her hands hold the three nails of the Holy Cross and we see the Crown of Thorns.

EXALTATION OF THE HOLY CROSS | SEPTEMBER 14

Father Broom in his homily on the great feast day of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross encourages us to contemplate the Cross of Jesus Christ by which the whole world was saved. St. Ignatius says that our contemplation of the Cross has two effects – to show us the gravity of sin and to demonstrate the depth of Christ’s love for us.

We can renew this contemplation many many times each day when we make a reverent, slow, and fervent Sign of the Cross. Every time we do this prayer and gesture with love, we remember that because of our Baptism- in the name of the Father, Son ,and Holy Spirit – we are Temples of the Trinity. We also remember Christ’s great love for us on Calvary.

“…They called the church together and reported what God had done with them and how he had opened the door of faith…”(Acts 14:27).

With his Apostolic Letter of October 11, 2011,Porta Fidei (Door of Faith). . . , Pope Benedict XVI declared that a “Year of Faith” will begin on October 11, 2012 and conclude on November 24, 2013. October 11, 2012, the first day of the Year of Faith, is the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council. . . (Vatican II) and also the twentieth anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. During the Year of Faith, Catholics are asked to study and reflect on the documents of Vatican II and the catechism so that they may deepen their knowledge of the faith

Father Broom teaches us how to prepare for and celebrate this Year of Faith. This Year is a blessed opportunity to strengthen our faith and to spread the faith to all Nations.

We can begin by reading the Apostolic Letter of Pope Benedict XVI which is available here:

Maria Cogita! Maria Invoca!

This is the motto of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary.

Think of Mary! Call on Mary!

All the Saints follow this advice…..St. Augustine, St. Dominic, St. Francis, St. Bernard, St. Alphonsus, St. Teresa of Avila, and St. Ignatius. They each called on the Holy Name of Mary in a very specific way.

The Venerable Pio Bruno Lanteri (founder of the Oblates) called her Conqueror of All Heresies! She protects the Church from error and will do the same for us her children.
