JESUS FILLED WITH MERCY! LUKE 7

Father Broom’s homily on September 20, 2o12 is based on the Gospel of the day – Luke 7: 36-50. This is the story of the woman who is a public sinner who seeks Jesus out in the home of the Pharisee… her tears clean the feet of Jesus, she drys his feet with her hair and anoint his feet.

How humble she is and how merciful Jesus is to her. A broken and contrite heart He will not spurn.

THE MEASURE OF LOVE IS TO LOVE WITHOUT MEASURE

“The Measure of Love is to Love without Measure.”
St. Francis De Sales

St. Vincent de Paul, a close friend of St. Francis De Sales, said that to see Francis was to see the heart of Christ. Francis was known as the “Gentleman Saint” for his great kindness and patience – virtues he acquired by diligent prayer, mortification and self control.

If Francis could learn to love so can we. We can lead the life of love….
feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, instructing the ignorant, loving the outcast. So that God will say to us “You loved without measure, well done my good and faithful servant. Enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.

Father Broom talks about this greatest of virtues. To love God and to love neighbor are our mission. St. Augustine said “love God and do what you will”. If we truly love God we will praise Him, reverence Him , serve Him.
We will obey Him. We will be saved.

We can ask the Blessed Virgin Mary to help us to love as she did. When we receive Jesus Christ in the Eucharist we receive the greatest outpouring of God’s love for us.

THE LIVING DEAD | THE WIDOW OF NAIM

Father Broom preaches on the Gospel Luke 7: 11-17. Jesus is moved with pity for the Widow of Naim whose only son has died. What compassion Our Lord has for her suffering and for ours.

Father Broom exhorts us to pray for the dead… the spiritually dead. he calls them the living dead. They are alive in their body but dead in their soul…. not attending Mass, living in fornication or adultery. Those who have turned their back on Christ are among the living dead. We must pray for them and sacrifice for them. We must beg Mary to help them return to life like the son of the widow of Naim.
