Father Broom speaking at his Friday evening Perseverance Group on November 30, 2012, reminds us that Advent begins in less than 24 hours. He reviews the meanings and practices of this liturgical season.

How do we prepare for the coming of Christ? How do we remind our families that Jesus is the reason for the season. Penance, Advent Wreaths, and frequent attendance at daily Mass will all help us prepare. Also, this is the time to prepare the stable of our heart for his arrival on Christmas morn with a good Confession.

VOCATION! THE THREE D’s

Father Broom using the Gospel of the Feast day of St. Andrew (Matthew 4:18-22) show us that every call from God to grow in holiness, to become a saint, to follow His will more closely has the three D’s. Dissatisfaction, Discovery, Decision

We suffer dissatisfaction… we know we aren’t living as we should or we have the sense there is more to life.

We discover the person of Jesus Christ and know this is the answer to our uneasiness.

We make a decision, like Andrew and Peter, to leave our life and follow Him.

We call that process “Vocation” – discovering God’s will for our lives. St. Louis De Montfort says that we all have the same vocation: to grow in holiness and that is God’s will for our lives.

SAINT ANDREW, BRING US TO CHRIST!

Father Broom preaches on the Feast Day of St. Andrew the Apostle, November 30, 2012. Andrew was an apostolic live wire for bringing people to Christ. He brought his brother, Peter, the 1st Pope to Jesus. He had apostolic enthusiasm and creativity.

He suffered martyrdom by being crucfied on an X shaped cross. He hung there for three days and all the time was telling the watchers about the good news of Jesus Christ and salvation.

Today, let’s beg for the graces of Andrew… to be creative and enthusiastic in all of our apostolic work and to embrace our crosses with joy because we know that the last word is not defeat but VICTORY!

END OF THE YEAR | END OF OUR LIFE HEAVEN? HELL?

Father Broom preaches on November 29, 2012. In less than two days the liturgical year will be over. It is the end of the year and the readings remind us of the end of our life. Father teaches us about the Last Things: Death – Judgment – Heaven – Purgatory – Hell

We know not the hour of our death – are we prepared? How can we prepare?
What will our judgment be like? Will we be marked for eternal joy in the Heavenly Kingdom or damnation for all eternity.

Let us be alert… prepared… and pray every day: “Holy Mary, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death”.

Father Broom teaches us about the Miraculous Medal. It is a powerful tool to call for Mary’s intercession. He talks about some of the miracles brought about by invoking Mary’s help though this medal.

The original name of this sacramental was the Medal of the Immaculate Conception and we still pray the prayer that Mary instructed St. Catherine Laboure to have etched into the medal:

O Mary, Conceived Without Sin, Pray For Us Who Have Recourse To You!

To read more about the history of the Miraculous Medal, please go to this link: http://catholicism.org/miraculous-medal.html

Father explains the words, symbols and images present on the medal. He explains how we can catechize others by explaining these to everyone we meet.
