Father Broom preaches on the Feast Day of St. John the Evangelist – John Chapter 20. All of the preaching during the long life of St. John – the Beloved Disciple – can be summed up in that quote form Christ at the Last Supper: LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU!

When John put his head over the Sacred Heart of Jesus at the Last Supper, he discovered that “he who abides in love abides in God and God in him”.

Father Broom preaches on December 26 – the Feast Day of St. Stephen – the Protomartyr- the first one to die for the Name of Christ. We go from the joy of Christmas Day to the stoning of St. Stephen the next day. The name Stephen means “crowned”. He was crowned by a crown of rocks and won the crown of martyrdom.

Tertullian in the 2nd Century AD says “the blood of martyrs is the seed of the Church”. Saul of Tarsus abetted this martyrdom and perhaps the grace of seeing Stephen’s virtuous death softened his heart to God’s call later on.

Father Broom reminds us how much our families, our nation, our world needs good strong fathers. We need Fathers who are good sons of God the Father themselves….. they love God 1st, then their spouse, then their children. We need fathers who love the Sacrament of Matrimony who are good husbands.
We can follow the model of good St. Joseph and of Blessed John Paul II.

MARY’S MESSAGE TO US: ALWAYS SAY “YES” TO LIFE

Father Broom preaches on the 4th Sunday of Advent. The Gospel is Luke 1:39-45 – The Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth. Mary goes “in haste” to assist Elizabeth…. they are both miraculously with child. A young girl of 14 with a pregnancy that to the world seems unexplained…..a woman past the normal years of child bearing. In today’s world, they would both be candidates for an abortion.

But Mary rejoices in the Lord and Elizabeth rejoices at Mary’s greeting. John in her womb leaps for joy and he is sanctified by the presence of the God Man in Mary’s womb. This gospel helps us see that all life from the moment of conception until natural death is a precious gift from God.

Mary’s word is always “YES” to life.

If it is not too late to shop for Christmas, it is not too late to prepare spiritually for Christmas. Father Broom speaks on December 23 with suggestions on our preparation to have the holiest Christmas of our lives.

We should beg for greater gratitude for the blessings God has poured out upon us. We should beg for the grace to receive the Sacraments of Confession and Holy Communion more frequently, more fervently and with greater faith.
What are the attachments in our lives that hinder Christ’s birth in the Bethlehem of our hearts?

Father Broom wishes that you would have the most holy Christmas of your life.
