Father Broom talks to the Confirmation students about the horror that sin is – slavery – addiction – death. These are all things that no one wants or would wish on anyone. Praise God that there is remedy for sin. We have the Sacraments – especially Confession and Holy Communion – to restore us and to strengthen us. Sin is slavery but God’s way is freedom. Lets experience God’s freedom and infinite mercy instead of the servitude of sin.

Father Broom speaks to the Confirmation boys (mostly 8th graders).

He brings home the eternal consequences of sin but also the effects it can have in our lives and in the lives of our families. He encourages the boys to avoid temptation and to avoid sin. He reminds them of God’s mercy available to them in the great Sacrament of Confession. He tells them that Confession is one of the best ways to be forgiven and to receive the graces to avoid sin. Sin is curative…. but it is also preventative.

Father Broom gives a short talk on living in light. In this new year one of our goals should be to always be in the light of Christ not the darkness of the enemy. He suggests three practices to help us achieve this goal:

1) Pray the Mysteries of Light with a lot of fervor and attention
2) Develop our relationship with the Holy Spirit. He is our sure source of light.
3)Love Mary More- She is the Star of the Sea. She is the Morning Star. If we know and love her she will help us walk in the light of her Son.

Father Broom presents Points of Contemplation on the Institution of the Eucharist – Holy Thursday in the Upper Room – Washing the feet of the Apostles – the new and greatest Commandment – the actual words – “Take and eat, this is my body”. Take and drink, this is my blood”. “Do this in memory of me”. We enter the scene of the greatest miracle – the Institution of the Eucharist and the creation of the Priesthood.

His Points of Meditation lead us to examine our relationship with Christ truly present in the Eucharist. How can we deepen our belief in this Sacrament of Sacraments? What must we do to receive Holy Communion with greater frequency, fervor, and faith?
