Father Broom preaches on Matthew 7:21, 24-27.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord,Lord’, will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in Heaven.”
Faith – Hope – Charity
We must have Faith… we must have Hope… but the greatest of these is Charity! What is charity? It is DOING the will of the Father. It is manifest in our actions…Faith without works is dead.

We must love the poor. practice the works of mercy, carry out the will of the Father in the work of saving souls. St. John of the Cross says: “In the twilight of our lives, we will be judged on love.”

He also says: ““Where there is no love, put love – and you will find love.”

St. Ignatius of Loyola in the Spiritual Exercises tells us to beg for these graces:
TO KNOW CHRIST MORE INTIMATELY so that we might
LOVE HIM MORE ARDENTLY and thereby
FOLLOW HIM MORE CLOSELY

Our Holy Father, Benedict XVI, has given us the Year of Faith and he wants us to experience a deep personal knowledge and love of Jesus Christ.

Father Broom in his homily on Matthew 15:29-37 helps us see the qualities of Christ so that we know Him and imitate Him. He is a healer.. a teacher… a shepherd…a miracle worker… a man of compassion and mercy…He works with others and accepts their help… He is meek and humble of heart. We see Him, we hear Him we watch His face as he talks… we will come to know Him. And to love Him. And to follow Him.

LIFT UP YOUR MIND AND HEART TO GOD! ST. JOHN DAMASCENE

“LIFTING UP YOUR MIND AND HEART TO GOD!”
This is the definition of prayer written by St. John Damascene in the 7th Century.

Father Broom explains the brilliance and holiness of this great saint. He is known as the Thomas Aquinas of the East and is one of the Eastern Fathers of the Church. He wrote brilliantly on many subjects. His devotion to Mary under the title Mary, Help of Christians, was profound.

He is most famous for his stirring defense of the use of images in the Church… he helped defeat the Iconoclast Heresy. He said we do not worship image but venerate them as a reminder of whom they represent. These images “lift our mind and heart to God” – they help us pray. What a book is to an educated person an image is to anyone who can not read. Catechism could be taught with no books but with just images.

We owe so much to this great saint.

Father Broom talks on God’s great gift of Human Sexuality. He explains that like all of God’s gifts, human sexuality can be used correctly or it can be abused. This gift has a proper place, a proper use and a proper intention.

Our modern world is in a cloud of confusion about this question. Father Broom tells us the “Who” the “Where” and the “Why” of God’s plan for human sexuality. He outlines both the earthly amd eternal consequences of this abuse.

He illuminates the Church teaching on openness to life and Pope Paul’s crystal clear Encyclical: Humanae Vitae. Pope Paul XI warned us of the consequences if the world continued to embrace a contraceptive mentality.
All of predicted consequences are present in our world today.

Father closed with a stirring defense of the the existence of absolute Truth and the presence of that Truth in the person of the Holy Father.

Father Broom preaches on the feast day of St. Francis Xavier – the greatest missionary in the history of the Church after St. Paul. He was a devoted follower of St. Ignatius of Loyola – and one of the 1st Jesuits. His path to holiness and sainthood was directed by his doing the Spiritual Exercises under the direction of St. Ignatius himself.

His missionary work was inspired by God’s grace, his own magnificent magnanimity and his deep prayer life. The last words St. Ignatius said to his best friend Francis Xavier when Francis left for the Indies were:

GO! SET ALL ON FIRE!
