Father Broom preaches on Luke 15:1-10. The Pharisees say “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them”. Our Lord gives them the parable of the lost sheep and the lost coin. God’s Mercy and love for the lost.

Father gives several other Gospel examples of the Mercy of Jesus…the woman at the well, the woman caught in adultery etc. Jesus preached and practiced mercy. He extends His mercy to us every day so that we can become as merciful as the Heavenly Father is merciful.

PROTESTANTS? CATHOLICS? WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

Don’t we all believe the same things? NO! Father Broom in his homily highlights three of the critical differences between Catholicism and Protestantism.

1) The Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist – we have it – they don’t.

2) We are saved by Faith and Works – they only stress Faith – Once saved always saved is their motto but we work out our salvation in fear and trembling.

3) Purgatory – we believe in it and in praying for the dead, they don’t

APOSTOLIC ZEAL

“Give me souls and take all the rest away!” St. John Bosco

“The measure of love is to love without measure” St. Francis De Sales

If we love God, we love what He loves. He loves souls. How can we bring more people to Him? Who can we bring to Mass? Do we have zeal for souls like Don Bosco?

We are filled with gratitude for the gift of the Eucharist in our lives. We must share it! We must bring others!

BLESSED ARE THE POOR

Father Broom preaches on our love of neighbor. Do we see Jesus in the poor…. do we recognize the face of Christ in those suffering? St. Martin of Tours was converted from paganism because he was willing to help a poor freezing man by sharing his cloak with him. That poor man turned out to be Jesus Christ.

Blessed Mother Teresa teaches us that we 1st find Christ in the Eucharist, then in our daily Holy Hour and when we have found him in those places, we will recognize him in the poor among us.

“In the twilight of our life, we will be judged on love.” St. John of the Cross

PURGATORY AND THE LAST THINGS

Father Broom teaches the parents of the confirmation students on the last things but particularly on the reality of Purgatory. Why do we go? How do we not go? Why do we want to go straight to heaven if possible?

Father gives the parents practical points to teach their children about the subject. He shows them how to have their children grow in generosity by praying for the poor souls in Purgatory.
