DIEZ IDEAS IMPORTANTES SOBRE LOS SANTOS, ¡NUESTROS MEJORES AMIGOS!

Cada año el 1 de noviembre, la Iglesia celebra con gozo el Día de todos los Santos. La Iglesia, pertenece a la familia de Dios, y tiene una triple división clásica: la Iglesia TRIUNFANTE, la Iglesia MILITANTE y la Iglesia PURGANTE. La Iglesia triunfante la componen todos aquellos que ya han muerto, que se han salvado y ahora gozan de la Gloria de Dios. La Iglesia purgante o sufriente la forman aquellos que todavía no entran en el cielo sino que se encuentran purificando en el purgatorio, y la Iglesia militante está formada por todos nosotros que aún nos encontramos en ésta vida y a quienes nos
corresponde seguir esforzándonos para un día alcanzar el cielo.

Esta reflexión se enfocará en la IGLESIA TRIUNFANTE, los santos que ahora gozan de la gloria del cielo, por haber sido victoriosos sobre el diablo y sus engaños, el mundo y sus seducciones y la carne con sus apegos desordenados.  Veremos a continuación diez de características de los personajes más cautivantes, heróicos, gozosos y atrayentes que han pasado por esta tierra – ellos son los amigos de Dios y amigos nuestros – ¡LOS SANTOS!

1. LOS SANTOS NO NACIERON SANTOS. Muchos equivocadamente piensan que los santos siempre fueron santos, que nacieron santos. Pero no es así. Nacieron con la mancha del pecado original y con una inclinación al mal (los pecados capitales). Ellos lucharon por dominarlos con la gracia de Dios.  Muchos de ellos, antes de su conversión, vivieron vidas muy pecaminosas, por ejemplo: el buen ladrón, María Magdalena, san Agustín, san Ignacio de Loyola, sta María de Egipto, sta Margarita de Cortona, conocida como la “segunda Magadalena”.

2. TÚ ESTÁS LLAMADO A SER SANTO. Me ha sucedido más de una vez que al estar enseñado a los jóvenes de primer año de Confirmación, les hago esta pregunta: “¿Quién quiere ser santo?” Y nadie levanta la mano. En seguida les pregunto ¿cuántos de ustedes no quieren ir al infierno y quieren ir al cielo?, todos levantan la mano.   Entonces les explico que en el cielo está Dios Trino (La Beatísima Trinidad), la Virgen María, los ángeles y los SANTOS, y por lo tanto, ¡si quieren llegar a cielo, tienen que ser santos!

3. ¡JESÚS NOS MANDA QUE SEAMOS SANTOS! Escuchemos las palabras de nuestro Salvador y Señor, Jesucristo.  Él, que es nuestro modelo nos dice: “¡Sean santos como es santo vuestro Padre celestial!” (Mt 5,48) El modo gramatical que Jesús emplea es el imperativo, este modo verbal expresa una orden, es decir, ¡Dios nos manda a ser santos!  Cuando Dios nos manda algo, nos da la gracia suficiente para lograrlo. Él nunca manda lo imposible.  Jesús dijo a san Pablo:“Te basta mi gracia.” La beata Madre Teresa de Calcuta también lo expresó con estas palabras “la santidad no es el privilegio de los pocos, sino el deber de todos.” Lumen Gentium, Constitución Dogmática de la Iglesia, capítulo V, habla sobre la “llamada universal a la santidad.” Todos debemos conocer este documento de la Iglesia, especialmente en nuestra búsqueda de la santidad!

4. ¿QUIÉNES SON Y DE DÓNDE VIENEN LOS SANTOS? La santidad no es cosa de una época, lugar, cultura o grupo étnico, mas bien es para todos, es un mandato divino, Dios nos creo para que seamos santos. Si ojeamos alguna antología de la vida de los santos, encontraremos una diversidad de personajes nobles.  Algunos fueron sacerdotes, otros obispos, otros fueron Papas y otros fueron monjas.  Otros santos han sido casados, como es el caso de los padres de santa Teresita del Niño Jesús – san Louis y Zelie Martin.  Otros como Giuseppe Moscati y el beato Giorgio Frassati tenían la vocación laica de solteros.  Unos murieron de cuando eran muy jóvenes como santo Domingo Savio (14 años) y santa María Goretti (11 años).  Otros, como san Alfonso María Ligorio, murió a los 90 años de edad, o san Antonio del desierto y san Juan Evangelisata que vivieron una vida larga.  Otros murieron de alguna enfermedad y otros murieron mártires.  La santidad es para todos, trasciende el tiempo, lugar, cultura, formación intelectual y género.  ¡TODOS somos llamados a ser santos y Dios nos da la gracia para lograrlo!

5. LOS SANTOS Y LA IGLESIA TRIUNFANTE. Los santos son la Iglesia triunfante, porque han corrido la carrera, han luchado y ahora están con Dios victoriosos en el cielo porque en vida vencieron el pecado y confiaron en la infinito oceano de la misericordia de Dios.  Jesús dijo a santa Faustina, que el más grande pecador puede llegar a ser el más grande santo si tan solo confía en la infinita misericordia de Dios.  Por eso celebramos su fiesta cada año el 1 de Noviembre – LA SOLEMNIDAD DE TODOS LOS SANTOS.

6. LOS SANTOS INTERCEDEN POR NOSOTROS.   En virtud de que están con Cristo y gozan de sus bienes espirituales, los santos pueden interceder por nosotros ante el trono de Dios.  Podemos invocarlos como poderosos intercesores para con Dios que podamos evitar el pecado, practicar las virtudes y un día llegar al cielo, a la casa del Eterno Padre. Dios escucha las súplicas que le dirigen para alcanzarnos su gracia y su auxilio. Los santos nos ofrece un modelo de vida, un ejemplo poderoso que imitar, ejemplos de santidad que tienen un atractivo irresistible que nos jalan como un imán. Cuantas veces no hemos visito que un santo inspira a otro santo a caminar el camino estrecho y exigente de la cruz que conduce al cielo. Un ejemplo perfecto es san Ignacio de Loyola que en su convalecencia después de haber sufrido una herida grave en la pierna derecha provocada por una bala de cañón, empezó a leer la vida de los santos. El pensaba:»Si esos hombres estaban hechos del mismo barro que yo, también yo puedo hacer lo que ellos hicieron».  

7. LEA LA VIDA DE LOS SANTOS. La lectura sobre la vida de los santos puede ser un poderoso estímulo a los fieles para el adelanto en la senda de la virtud de grande estímulo a los fieles para el adelanto en la senda de la virtud para poder llegar a ser los grandes santos que Dios anhela que seamos.  Invierta en al compra de una colección libros de la vidas de los santos, por ejemplo la colección de cuatro tomos del P. 8. LAS VIRTUDES DE LOS SANTOS. Cuando el Santo Padre hace la declaración oficial de canonización, lo hace despues de un riguroso proceso de investigación que requiere milagros verificados (usualmente tres) y la Iglesia los reconoce por haber vivido la santidad en heroica virtud.  Aunque estos hombres y muyeres nacieron con el contagio del pecado original y aunque haya vivido vidas pecaminosas antes de su conversion, ellos lucharon fuertemente contra el pecado y alcanzaron la santidad.  Pero más importante, con la gracia de Dios vivió heroicamente las virtudes.  Una virtud heroica es aquella que se realiza como segunda naturalez, es un hábito de buena conducta que se vive a diario y con constancia, no con tropiezos y retroceso, o cuando se les “da la gana”.  No!  Ellos viven constantemente las virtudes de forma heroica y esto refleja su santidad de vida.  ¿Cuáles son las principales virtudes que viven los santos?  Todas!  La fe, la esperanza, la caridad, la paciencia, la pureza, la mansedumbre, la obediencia, la penitencia, la mortificación, la fortaleza, la oración, la misericordia, y muchas más. 

9. EL GOZO Y LOS SANTOS. Una de las características más evidentes de la presencia del Dios en la vida de una persona es que la persona esta gozosa.   San Pablo en su carta a los Filipénses nos hace esta exhortación: «ALÉGRENSE EN EL SEÑOR, OS LO REPITO, ALÉGRENSE» (Flp 4,4) Los santos no iban por la vida cabizbajos o tristes, malhumorados o con cara de vinagre, ¡no!  Eran todo lo contrario, los santos estaban siempre llenos del Espíritu Santo y llenos de gozo.  El fruto del Espíritu Santo es el gozo!


10. MARÍA: REINA DE TODOS LOS SANTOS. Nuestra Señora es Reina de todos
los santos, y la figura más grande que resplandece entre todos los santos.  Todos los grandes
santos han sido devotos de María
y han tenido un gran amor por ella.  Es por intercesión de María Santisima
que muchos hombres y mujeres se han esforazado por alcanzar la santidad.  Por esto llamamos:  “Santa María, Madre de Dios, ruega por
nosotros pecadores, ahora y en la hora de nuestra muerte.  Amén.” 
Deseo elevar mi agradecimiento al Señor con las tan excelsa madre que no
cesa de orar por nosotros para que alcanzemos la santidad.
