REGLAS PARA GLORIFICAR A DIOS CON NUESTRAS PALABRAS.

Seremos juzgados
sobre cada palabra que sale de nuestra boca, dice Jesús.  El día del juicio, rendiremos cuentas.  Jesús también dijo: »Del abundancia del corazón habla la boca.»  »Que tu sí sea sí, y tu no sea no; todo lo
demás viene del maligno.»

El texto clásico
sobre los pecados de la lengua se encuentra en el tercer capítulo
de Santiago.  Esta carta expresamente nos exhorta a que controlemos la lengua.  »Deberíamos ser lentos para hablar y prontos
para escuchar.»  Porque aquel que controla
su lengua, ha emprendido el camino de santidad.

Dado que nuestras palabras y nuestros temas de conversación son de tanta
importancia, ¿cómo podemos controlar la lengua? 
Santiago compara nuestra lengua a una pequeña chispa de fuego, que
puede encender un gran incendio forestal. 

Presentamos aquí
formas concretas, reglas que podemos seguir en nuestra lucha diaria para
controlar la lengua.  De esta forma nuestras palabras serán sólo para glorificar a
Dios y santificar a nuestro prójimo.

1.  LA ORACIÓN TRANSFORMA – VEAMOS EL EJEMPLO
QUE NOS DA SAN PEDRO.  Recordemos lo que
pasó el Jueves Santo, cuando san Pedro negó a Jesús con su lengua.  Jesús ya había profetizado que antes que el
gallo cantara, san Pedro lo negaría tres veces. 
¡Le ganó la cobardía!  Pero
después de esta negación vemos una transformación.  San Pedro hace su primera novena con María y
los Apóstoles.  En estos nueve dias rezan y ayunan y el Espíritu Santo desciende sobre ellos en forma de fuego.  San Pedro
predica y convierte a 5 mil personas. 
La lengua y el corazón de Pedro, fueron transformados por la oración y
la venida del Espíritu Santo.  Si rezamos
bien, Jesús soplará su Espíritu sobre nosotros, ¡y nos enseñara cómo hablar!

2.  LECTURA ESPIRITUAL.  Muchos tienen poco que decir, ¡porque no han procurado su intelecto!  ¡Nadie puede dar lo
que no tiene!  Una mente vacía comunicará
sólo palabras vacías.  Forme el buen
hábito leer diariamente alguno libro espiritual, por lo menos quince o treinta
minutos, o si puede más, ¡hágalo!  ¿Qué
deberíamos leer?  La Biblia, la vida de
los santos, documentos de la Iglesia, escritos de los Padres de la Iglesia,
algun escrito de los Doctores de la Iglesia, el Catecismo de la Iglesia
Católica, los documentos del Concilio Vaticano II – ¡la lista de buena lectura no acaba!  ¡Una mente bien formada tendrá
mucho que compartir y buena conversación! 

3.  ¡PIENSE ANTES DE HABLAR!  Un temperamento impulsivo e impetuoso puede
causar estragos.  No siempre deberíamos
decir todo lo que pensamos, o decir lo primero que se nos ocurre!  Aprendamos a pensar, a reflexionar antes de
hablar.  Por eso Santiago nos
dice tan acertadamente:  »Seamos lentos
para hablar y prontos para escuchar.»


4.  SI NO TIENE ALGO BUENO QUE DECIR, ¡NO DIGA
NADA!  ¡Qué cosas tan sabias nos han ensenado
nuestras madres!  Hay veces que el
silencio en verdad vale oro.  Si nuestros
pensamientos están llenos de confusión, coraje, resentimientos, démonos tiempo
para que regrese la paz en nuestro corazón, se purifique nuestra mente y
nuestras intenciones ¡y sólo entonces hablemos!

5.  APLIQUEMOS LA REGLA DE ORO AL DISCURSO.  Todos conocemos la Regla de Oro:  »Haz a los demás todo lo que quieras que te
hagan a ti.»  Pero cambiémosla un
poco:  »Di a otros lo que te quieras que
digan de ti.»  ¡Ésta regla la entendemos
todos!

6.  PONGA ATENCIÓN A »CÓMO» LO DICE.  A menudo sucede que expresamos la
verdad, pero de forma tajante, cortante, dura y arrogante.  Con qué verdad
resuenan las palabras del Doctor y obispo de la Iglesia, san Francisco de
Sales:  »Se atrapan más moscas con una
cucharada de miel que con un balde de vinagre.»  Con qué frecuencia se quejan los niños:  »Mamá, calmada, ¡no grites tanto!»

7.  ¿ENOJADO? 
Primero, ¡cálmese!  Con qué
frecuencia pasa que cuando estamos en una nube de coraje, abrimos la boca sólo
para después lamentar lo que dijimos. 
Pero una vez dichas las palabras, imposible retirarlas.  ¿Enojado? 
Apártese de la situación.  Pida a
Dios que le de paz.  ¡Cálmese!  Una vez que haya domado la lengua,
¡regrese!

8.  LA PRESENCIA DE JESÚS, MARÍA Y JOSÉ.  Vivamos siempre en la presencia de Jesús,
María y José.  Esto nos ayudará como no
podemos imaginar.  Nos ayudará a controlar esa arma mortal que tenemos en la boca, la
lengua.  Santa Teresa de Ávila notó, que
muchas veces pecamos porque ignoramos la presencia de Dios.  Si estamos consciente de la noble presencia de Jesús, María y José, servir para dominar la lengua.

9.  EVITE EL CHISME A TODA COSTA.  El Papa Francisco en sus distintos discursos pastorales nos ha hablado más de una vez sobre el peligro de la lengua.  Ha llegado al grado de decir que podemos
matar con la lengua.  La lengua, se
convierte en arma y las palabras en balas que traspasan el corazón y matan.  Todos tenemos derecho a nuestro
buen nombre.  El chismoso, el que
calumnia, ¡mata con la lengua!

10.  REGLAS PARA HABLAR SEGÚN SAN BUENAVENTURA.  El gran Doctor de la Iglesia, amigo de
santo Tomás de Aquino, nos da tres excelentes reglas que deben regir nuestras
conversaciones, palabras y discurso:

a)  ¡ALABAR A DIOS!  Debemos usar nuestra lengua para alabar a
Dios.  Una nota interesante:  trescientos años después de san Buenaventura,
surge otro santo quien reitera la misma verdad en lo que él llama Principio y
Fundamento, y es el gran san Ignacio de Loyola. 
Él dice:  »El hombre es creado
para alabar a Dios, hacer reverencia y servir a Dios, y mediante esto salvar su
alma.» (Ejercicios Espirituales de san Ignacio #23)  ¡Empiece y acabe su día alabando a su
Creador!

b)  ¡ACUSARSE A SI MISMO!  ¡Somos pecadores!  ¡El hombre justo cae siete veces al día!  San Agustín hace esta observación: »Entre
menos examinemos nuestra conciencia, más acusamos y juzgamos a otros.»   Deberíamos primero examinar nuestra conciencia y acusarnos de nuestras faltas; esto es ser humilde.  Después de esto, ¡dirigamonos al confesionario!  Al comenzar la Misa, nos acusamos de haber
pecado en »pensamiento, palabra, obra y omisión, por mi culpa, mi culpa, my
grande culpa…»  (El Confiteor, el »Yo
pecador» de la Misa)  La persona que
reconoce su propio pecado, ¡no fácilmente acusa y condena a su prójimo!

c)  EDIFICAR A MI PRÓJIMO.  San Buenaventura concluye, animándonos a que
usemos nuestra discurso para edificar a nuestro prójimo.  La palabra edificar significa »elevar y
levantar».  Nuestras palabras no deben
ser destructivas sino constructivas!  Que
san Bernabé sea nuestro guía y modelo. 
Él siempre animó a aquellos que formaban parte de la Iglesia
primitiva.  El nombre »Barnabé»
significa »hijo de exhortación», el que anima y entusiasma.
Alabemos y demos
gracias a Dios por el gran don de las palabras. 
Usemos siempre nuestras palabras para comunicar la
verdad con amor.  Que Nuestra Señora,
quien alabó a Dios con estas palabras, sea nuestra inspiración y nuestro
guía:  »Mi alma proclama la grandeza del
Señor, mi espíritu se alegra en Dios mi salvador.»
