¡Llamados a Consolar y Alentar!



Una de las características distintivas de la persona y vida de san Barnabé apóstol, fue su forma de animar y alentar a otros.  Bernabé significa «Hijo de exhortación», el que anima y entusiasma.  Por donde pasaba, a pesar de las muchas pruebas y tribulaciones, en particular con san Pablo, solía ser optimista, alentaba, apoyaba y consolaba. ¡Qué cualidades tan maravillosos!

 

¡Todos somos llamados a hacer lo mismo!   Nos deberían también llamar «Bernabé»—hijo (hija) de exhortación. ¿Por qué no hacer el firme propósito en este momento de buscar oportunidades para alentar a otros, apoyar a otros, consolar a otros y levantar a los desvanecidos como lo hizo Bernabé, como lo hizo Simón el Cirineo y el Buen Samaritano.

 

EL ESPÍRITU SANTO.   Entre los muchos títulos para el Espíritu Santo están «El Consolador» y «Dulce Huésped del alma».   El  «Dulce Huésped del alma» ha colmado nuestro corazón, nuestra mente y nuestra alma de abundantes consuelos, ¿por qué no compartir estos dones con los demás?

 

Por lo tanto, ¿cuáles son algunas formas prácticas en que podemos ser un Bernabé — un verdadero hijo/hija de consolación.  De hecho, hay muchas formas, ¡pero nos limitaremos a dar cinco!


1. LA ORACIÓN.  Al percatarse que alguien está pasando por un periodo de desolación, ¡rece por esa persona!  Dice san Ignacio, que la desolación es ese estado del alma en donde la fe, esperanza y caridad se encuentra débil.  La persona se siente triste y deprimida, tibieza en el servicio de Dios, una inclinación a cosas bajas, terrenas y sensuales, siente la tentación de ‘tirar la toalla’, de abandonar la lucha.  Por cierto, todos pasamos por este estado; aún Jesús pasó por esto en su agonía cuando oraba en el jardín de Getsemaní.  Cuando se encuentre con alguien en este estado, rece un Avemaría por él o ella y una corta y fervorosa oración al Espíritu Santo.  Estas oraciones, dichas con fervor y fe, ¡pueden disipar la nube de desolación!


2.  ¡SONRÍA!  La sonrisa es una señal clara de pertenencia a Cristo.  La sonrisa refleja la alegría presente en el fondo del alma.  Aunque es cierto que la tristeza es contagiosa, igualmente es cierto que la alegría es contagiosa, especialmente mediante ¡el simple gesto cariñoso de una sonrisa!


3. PALABRAS AMABLES Y ALENTADORAS.  Se podría decir que nuestras palabras son como un ascensor.  Si pulsamos el botón «arriba» el ascensor sube, si pulsamos el botón «abajo» el ascensor ¡baja al sótano!  Las palabras tienen el mismo efecto.  Palabras negativas y poco caritativas pueden arrastrar hacia la tristeza y la desolación.  En cambio, una palabra alentadora y positiva — como el ascensor que sube — ¡puede levantar el espíritu! ¿Por qué no seguimos las Reglas sobre el discurso de san Buenaventura: «Debemos abrir la boca en tres ocasiones: Para alabar a Dios, para acusarnos a nosotros mismo de nuestras faltas y para edificar al prójimo.»   ¡Gracias! san Buenaventura.  Este es un consejo excelente para ser un verdadero Bernabé — ¡un hijo/hija que alienta!

 
4.  SERVICIO.  Nuestra vida no debe ser sólo palabras, sino acciones.  Una vez conscientes que alguien necesita ayuda, sin perder tiempo, demos de nuestro tiempo, fuerzas y buena voluntad para servir —como Nuestra Señora que sin demora fue presurosa a servir a santa Isabel!  ¡Hechos son amores y no buenas razones!

 
5.  ¡ACOSTUMBRE DAR CUMPLIDOS A OTROS CON FRECUENCIA Y GENEROSIDAD!!!   Forme el hábito de hacer resaltar las buenas obras y logros de los demás y de halagarlos.  Algunos ejemplos podrían ser: ¡Una madre después de largas horas de preparar la cena merece reconocimiento y afirmación!  ¿Por qué no simplemente decir: mamá (o mi amor si es su esposa) que rica estuvo la cena!  Otro ejemplo: Su hijo saca buenas calificaciones en su boleta: «¡Buen trabajo hijo, Dios está contento con tu trabajo!»  Por último, cuando el marido regresa de un arduo día de trabajo y escucha las palabras alentadoras de su esposa: «¡Mi amor, gracias!  Gracias por tu dedicación, por tu trabajo, por proveer para las necesidades de la familia!  ¡Un millón de gracias!»

 

En resumen, muchos se dan a la desesperación y tristemente, y por diversas razones contemplan el suicidio.  El corazón humano es un misterio.  Sin embargo, una de las razones es porque vivimos en un ambiente en donde el negativismo, la crítica, el chisme y la amargura abundan — ¡todo esto derriba en vez de edificar!

 

¿Por qué no hacer el firme propósito, en este mismo momento, y asumir en la forma de vivir, este nuevo nombre de «Bernabé», hijo/hija de consuelo.  Ruegue al Espíritu Santo, el Consolador, que acuda en su ayuda.  Implore a la Virgen Santísima, a quien invocamos bajo el nombre de «Causa de nuestra alegría», para que seamos verdaderos Bernabés, ¡hijos/hijas de consolación!



¡Un último desafío!  He aquí un corto pasaje del Apóstol san Pablo que resalta este tema de alentar a otros.  ¡Un reto!  Cuente el número de veces que san Pablo nos exhorta a que animemos a otros.  Entonces, ¡póngalo en práctica!

¡Bendito sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Padre de misericordias y Dios de toda consolación, que nos consuela en toda tribulación nuestra para poder nosotros consolar a los que están en toda tribulación, mediante el consuelo con que nosotros somos consolados por Dios!  Pues, así como abundan en nosotros los sufrimientos de Cristo, igualmente abunda también por Cristo nuestra consolación.  Si somos atribulados, lo somos para consuelo y salvación vuestra; si somos consolados, lo somos para el consuelo vuestro, que os hace soportar con paciencia los mismos sufrimientos que también nosotros soportamos.  Es firme nuestra esperanza respecto de vosotros; pues sabemos que,como sois solidarios con nosotros en los sufrimientos, así lo seréis también en la consolación. (II Corintios 1: 3-7)
