Situado en el quinto capítulo del
segundo libro de Reyes, entre los 27 versículos, aparece un personaje
fascinante llamado Naamán. Naamán, fue uno
de los comandantes militares del rey de Aram, era muy querido,
respetado y superdotado. Pero Naaman sufría un dolor inefable: ¡era leproso!
un leproso? ¡No! En la primera oportunidad, mire en el espejo
y descubrirá la cara de un leproso.
Muchos de ustedes están sorprendidos con esta afirmación. Sin embargo, ¡permítame defender mi
posición! Hay dos formas de lepra: la
lepra física, que es una horrible enfermedad de la piel—una de las peores
enfermedades en los tiempos de Jesús y en los días del Antiguo Testamento; y la
otra se contrae por el pecado! ¡El
pecado es lepra espiritual, lepra moral!
Nos guste o no, lo admitamos o
no, vivámoslo o no, neguémoslo o no, desde el momento de la concepción en el
vientre de nuestra madre, como herencia de nuestros primeros padres Adán y Eva,
contraemos la lepra, la mancha y el contagio del pecado original. Y a esta primera mancha de lepra le añadimos
muchos más pecados personales; algunos son veniales y otros lamentablemente son
mortales. Algunos pecados son pequeñas
manchas, ¡mientras que otras son llagas ulcerosas!
¿Cuándo es que contraemos lepra
en el alma? Recuerde que el pecado es
«lepra del alma». ¡Hagamos un
examen en forma personal de pies a cabeza!
Primero, ¡la mente! Cada
vez que voluntariamente permitimos que la suciedad de la inmundicia moral entre
a nuestra mente, ¡lepra! ¿Los malos
pensamientos son pecado? Si los
rechazamos, no son pecado, pero si les damos paso y pleno consentimiento, ¡si
lo son! Hoy, muchos leprosos
espirituales caminan por las calles con la inmundicia de la lepra
descomponiendo sus mentes!
gratitud recordemos todas las bendiciones que Él nos a dado. «Den gracias al Señor, porque es bueno,
porque es eterna su misericordia».
Si traemos a la mente cosas del pasado y nos aferramos a feos recuerdos,
recuerdos de pecado, a veces pensando demasiado en feas relaciones románticas,
entonces hemos contraído lepra de la memoria.
Los ojos — ¿Tiene usted lepra de
los ojos? En un mundo que nos bombardea
de todos lados con imágenes impuras, el contagio de la lepra de los ojos pasa
casi desapercibido y sin nuestro consentimiento, pero en particular pasa por
nuestra falta de vigilancia. Recuerde
que seguir a Cristo, es estar en un constante estado de batalla
espiritual. Analice esta lista de
comprobación para ver si usted ha contaminado sus ojos con lepra
espiritual. Programas inmodestos de
televisión, en particular programas de cable, ver revistas o diarios que
muestran lo indecente, dejar vagar la mirada en la calle y tomando ese segundo
o tercer vistazo, entregarse a la lujuria de los ojos y el corazón en el
trabajo o en las tiendas, dejarse llevar por la amplia proliferación de
imágenes pornográficas en el internet, computadora y teléfonos, bajando
imágenes pornográficas — ¿le ha abierto paso a estas tentaciones? Si su respuesta es de forma afirmativa,
¡entonces acepte humildemente que usted tiene lepra de los ojos!!!!!
Los oídos — ¿Tiene usted lepra de
los oídos? ¿Qué ha permitido usted que
entre al pórtico de su mente y corazón por lo que oye? Pasó una vez que el gran san Juan Bosco,
cuando era niño, escuchó que un hombre dijo un chiste sucio. Años más tarde, el santo lamentaba no haber
alcanzado borrar de su memoria esa historia fea. Ah, cuánto tiempo perduran los recuerdos,
¡persisten por años! El conocido doctor
Adrian Rogers (el ya fallecido pastor bautista) sin reservas dijo: «¡Tus
oídos no son un cesto de basura en el cual tu vecino puede tirar
basura!» ¡Muy bien dicho! Ahora repasemos la lista de comprobación,
para ver si hay un posible contagio del lepra de los oídos. ¿He prestado oído al chismoso de la ciudad?,
¿a propósito he escuchado que se le calumnia o difama a mi prójimo?, ¿he
permitido que otros cuenten mentiras sin intentar corregirlos?, ¿he escuchado
malas palabras?, ¿he escuchando chistes groseros?, ¿le he escuchado a alguien
hablar mal de mi suegra? —si voluntariamente ha prestado oído en alguna
situación mencionada, responsabilícese, ¡usted ha contraído lepra de los oídos!
La lengua — ¿Tiene lepra de la lengua?
La carta de Santiago nos exhorta a que seamos lentos para hablar y
prontos para escuchar. Más adelante, en
el tercer capítulo de Santiago (un capítulo excelente que habla sobre los
pecados de la lengua), el Espíritu Santo nos advierte, que nos esforcemos por
controlar la lengua, porque de lo contrario, podemos causar un mal incalculable
— igual que la pequeña chispa prende fuego y causa un inmenso fuego
forestal! Recuerde también que Jesús
dice que de la abundancia del corazón habla la boca. Aún más, ¡Jesús nos advierte que seremos
juzgados sobre cada palabra que brota del de nuestros labios! ¡Ah!
¡Señor sálvame! Ahora repasemos
la lista para ver si hemos contraído lepra de la lengua. ¿Me he entregado a…. la mentira, el chisme, la maledicencia, la
calumnia, la difamación, la murmuración, habladurías, disfrazar la verdad,
gritar, criticar, culpar, insultar, maldiciones, vulgaridades, indecencias, he
abierto la boca impulsivamente y sin pensar?
Es muy probable que después de leer esta extensa lista, tendrá que
reconocer humildemente que su lengua está cubierta con capas gruesas de
lepra. En nuestra lucha por curar la
lengua, recuerde lo siguiente: Primero, el propósito del discurso es —
comunicar la verdad con amor; Dos,
recuerde que sobre la lengua se deposita, mejor dicho, se «entrona» al Señor de señores, el
Rey de reyes, Jesús Eucarístico, ¡cada vez que se recibe en la Sagrada
Comunión! Nada indigno debe salir de su
lengua, porque su lengua es el trono de tan noble Rey!
¡Lepra del Paladar o de la
Barriga!
Relacionado con la lepra de la
lengua se puede incluir el pecado de la gula en sus diversas
manifestaciones. Repasemos la lista
nuevamente. ¿Come usted demasiado?, ¿bebe demasiado?, ¿fuma al grado de hacerse
daño?, ¿usa marihuana u otras drogas?, ¿consume drogas para escapar de los problemas
de la vida? Si usted ha cedido al pecado
de la gula, admítalo. ¡Usted ha se ha
contagiado con la enfermedad de la lepra! Recuerde lo que san Pablo escribió
bajo la inspiración del Espíritu Santo, «Recordad que vuestro cuerpo es
templo del Espíritu Santo; glorificad a Dios en vuestros cuerpos…», «Si
comes o bebes, hacer todo para la gloria de Dios…» ¡Pablo nos recuerda que no demos culto al
dios barriga!

corazón, del centro de la persona humana, que la lepra se debe detectar,
reconocer, confesar y extraer! ¡Hagamos
la lista de verificación una vez más! Motivos e intenciones impuras,
pensamientos adúlteros, ira voluntaria, amargura, venganza, envidia, celos,
rivalidad, afectos y deseos lascivos y lujuriosos, arrogancia, altanería, una
actitud altiva, egoísmo y el deseo desenfrenado del placer. Si estos frutos de la carne no son frenados y
asfixiados, como gran conflagración pueden consumirnos y transformarnos en
monstruos, ¡leprosos de primera categoría!
¡Buenas noticias! ¡Hay un médico en casa! El remedio para todas estas formas de lepra
— del corazón, de los ojos, de los oídos, la lengua y la mente — es el mejor
de «Médicos», este médico es Jesucristo, el Médico Divino. Jesús vino a este mundo como nuestro hermano
mayor, ¡y también para sanarnos y salvarnos!
Jesús ascendió al los cielos y está sentado a la diestra de Dios Padre,
prometió mandarnos su Espíritu y prometió estar con nosotros siempre, hasta el
final de los tiempos. ¿Cómo y dónde? Respuesta—En la Iglesia, su Cuerpo Místico, específicamente en los Sacramentos.
Si de pies a cabeza estamos
infectados de lepra, si somos sólo una llaga abierta, si todo nuestro ser es
una úlcera repulsiva supurando, la especialidad de Jesús es precisamente esa,
ayudar al más agudo, infeccioso y aparentemente desagradable caso de lepra (el
leproso es el pecador/el leproso espiritual).
San Pablo nos consuela con estas palabras: «Dónde abunda el pecado,
sobreabunda la misericordia de Dios.»
Concretamente, el hospital para
la curación es la Iglesia (en particular, el confesionario). El que sana es
Jesús mismo, el Médico Divino. Jesús
está presente en la persona del sacerdote católico, que de hecho obra en
«persona Christi» o «alter christus» (San Agustín). Igual como Jesús sanó a muchos leprosos en su
ministerio público ya sea tocándolos o solo por su Palabra, Jesús sigue curando
la lepra del pecado por el Sacramento de sanación, la confesión.
¡Regresamos a Naamán! Naamán se bañó siete veces en el río Jordán y
su carne leprosa se volvió como la piel de un niño pequeño. (II Reyes 5:14).
Usted no tiene que ir al río más cercano y bañarse siete veces. Sumérgase en el confesionario más cercano y
lleve toda su lepra al Señor Jesús por medio del sacerdote, hágalo con fe,
verdadero arrepentimiento y confianza ilimitada en su misericordia. «Y aunque sus pecados sean como
escarlata, se hará tan blancos como la nieve.»

enfermedad altamente contagiosa! Por el
contrario, Jesús es el Sanador-Herido, el Médico Divino, de hecho nuestro amante
y Amigo. Jesús nos sanará, salvará y
llevará a nuestro eterno hogar, el cielo, ¡dónde con María lo alabaremos con un
corazón puro e inocente por toda la eternidad!
