SAN ESTEBAN: HOMBRE EN FUEGO CON EL AMOR DE DIOS!

Uno de los primeros diáconos (llamados a servir), el Proto-mártir (el primero de multitudes en imitar a Jesús en derramar su sangre, un hombre lleno de gracia y del Espíritu Santo, el hombre que sabía la Palabra de Dios, meditó en Ella, vivió y murió por Ella—estas virtudes sublimes describen el Gran San Esteban, cuya festividad celebramos directamente después del nacimiento del Salvador.  El Salvador nació en la tierra y su fiel soldado, nació en el cielo.

¡Cuántas excelentes lecciones que podemos aprender de San Esteban!

1. ¡DIÁCONO!  Significa «Siervo» en imitación de Jesús (San Esteban) podemos entender el valor del servicio. Jesús declaro: «el hijo del hombre no vino a ser servido, sino a dar su vida en rescate por muchos».  «Servir es reinar; reinar es servir!»

2. JESÚS EN LOS POBRES!  Como diácono, fue convocado para servir a Jesús en los pobres, los huérfanos, las viudas y los olvidados de la sociedad. Que Podamos ver a Jesús en los pobres y en el sufrimiento. Frase clásica de Madre Teresa: «ver a Jesús en el doloroso disfraz de los pobres”.

3. LA PALABRA DE DIOS.  San Esteban era un hombre de la Palabra deDios.  Leyó la Palabra de Dios, la meditó;  la asimiló, la predicó, él  vivió e incluso murió por Ella!  ¿Qué la Palabra de Dios tenga un papel más prominente en mi vida!

4. DEFENSA DE LA VERDAD!  San Esteban no tenía miedo de enfrentarse a los enemigos de la verdad y ceñirse a la verdad.  Nunca hemos vivido antes en un mundo con tanta información; nunca habíamos tenido tanta confusión.  Que podamos saber la VERDAD y defender la verdad, como San Esteban y los Santos.

5. DEBATE!  Hoy más que nunca necesitamos a cristianos que puedan honestamente—-a través de la buena apologética—dar argumentos de la razón porque creemos. ¿Qué puedan nuestras palabras,como las palabras ardientes de San Esteban, puncen en el corazón de los infieles.

6. INOCENCIA.  Como cuando  San Esteban defiende la verdad delante del Sanedrín, su rostro parecía el de un Ángel.  Que nosotros podamos  irradiar inocencia y pureza en nuestras acciones, que fluyan desde un corazón puro e inocente.  «Bienaventurados los limpios de corazón, porque ellos  verán a Dios.» (Mt 5:8)

7. FORTALEZA: HOMBRE DE CORAJE!  A pesar de la hostilidad de los enemigos de la verdad, San Esteban no retrocede, no se derrumba bajo la presión. Cuando somos confrontados con obstáculos en nuestras vidas, tribulaciones y persecuciones; que podamos seguir firmes, sostenidos por la fuerza del Espíritu Santo.

8.CORONACIÓN DE GRACIA!    El nombre «Esteban» significa coronación!  No fue coronado con rosas, diamantes, oro—no fue una corona cómoda! Más bien, la Coronación de San Esteban fue de piedras, demoliendo su cráneo y matándolo.  Sin embargo, poco después, Jesús lo corona en el cielo como el PROTOMÁRTIR—es decir, el primero en morir derramando su sangre, imitando a su Señor y Maestro, el Señor Jesucristo crucificado y resucitado!

9. LA MISERICORDIA Y EL PERDÓN.  En imitación a Jesús, como San Esteban está muriendo, él también perdona a sus enemigos como leemos en las Sagradas Escrituras: «Mientras lo apedreaban, Esteban oraba, diciendo: «Señor Jesús, recibe mi espíritu». Después, poniéndose de rodillas, exclamó en alta voz: «Señor, no les tengas en cuenta este pecado». Y al decir esto, expiró (Hechos de los apóstoles 7:59, 60).  Otro nombre por la misericordia de Dios es el perdonar con amor.  ¿Qué podemos ser misericordiosos, para recibir la misericordia de Dios!

10. LA CONVERSIÓN A TRAVÉS DE LA ORACIÓN Y LA MISERICORDIA!  San Agustín señala que fue através de las oraciones de San Esteban que tenemos la conversión de Saúl a San Pablo.  Aunque la conversión es obra de Dios; Sin embargo, con una efusión de misericordia,  esta fue profundamente movida por la humilde, pura, sincera, ferviente oración.  Esos fueron los sentimientos del corazón de Esteban. Ahora, San Esteban Y San Pablo, en paralelo, están adorando al Señor Jesús por toda la eternidad!
 
Que Nuestra Señora, la Madre de Jesús, la Reina de los Apóstoles y la Reina de los Mártires, obtenga para nosotros ese fuego, amor, entusiasmo y el ardor que quema en el corazón de San Esteban. Que nuestras intenciones, palabras y obras puedan ser coronadas con la gracia y santidad!
