THURSDAY, November 25th   Lk. 21:20-28   “Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand.”

Jesus is speaking about the end times. Each one of us has an “end time” that is coming, we know not when. Therefore, let us stop and reflect on our life now and offer heartfelt thanksgiving for the gifts and graces we have received from our good and gracious God. Let us look to the future and thank Him for the gifts and graces He has yet in store for us!

TEN WAYS THAT WE CAN RENDER THANKS TO OUR LOVING SAVIOR… By Fr. Ed Broom, OMV

1. A NEW DAY: A NEW SUNRISE.  Every day that we rise from sleep after a good night’s rest, we should thank God for His protection during the night and the gift of another day.

2. A NOURISHING MEAL.  Many will go to bed hungry this night; some will even die from malnutrition and starvation. We should always bless the meal that God provides for us through the hands and hard work of others. A child said this prayer during the Thanksgiving holiday: “God, I thank you that I can choose the food I eat!” How many people throughout the world have never seen a Refrigerator? Or a sumptuous meal with multiple, delicious foods to choose from?

3. FRIENDLY AND SMALL WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT.  Desolation is part and parcel of human existence and we all know of it from personal experience. How often has it happened that the Good Lord has rescued us from a state of desolation by sending some Good Samaritan along our path to give us a shining smile of friendship, and some encouraging and kind words? For these uplifting experiences let us express our gratitude to God, but also show our gratitude by becoming that Good Samaritan for others! 

4. SUFFICIENT HEALTH TO MOVE ON.  As the years transpire our health declines, but God intervenes with His powerful Presence to lift us up and help us move on despite our weakening frame and creaking structure. Never forget the words of the poet: “I complained because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet!” We will always bump into people who are worse off than us. Count your blessings!

5. TIME, TALENT, AND TREASURE.  Render a heartfelt Thank You to God for the time,  talent, and treasure that God has given to you. Show your gratitude in a concrete way by 

imitating the two servants in the Parable of the Talents who doubled their talents and returned them with interest to their Master. (Mt 25:14-28) May we never show ingratitude to God by our laziness; rather, let us show our gratitude by hard work and diligent effort!

6. JOY!  We must be constantly grateful for the many times that God has filled our hearts and minds with joy! This is a fruit of the Holy Spirit that becomes manifest when we correspond to the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Remember the acronym J.O.Y. = Jesus, Others, You! Want Joy? Put Jesus first, others second, and yourself last! 

7. HEAVEN.  The thought of Heaven that awaits God’s faithful followers should fill us with overflowing joy and gratitude. Jesus expressed these most consoling words: “I am going to prepare a place for you now, so that where I am, you also might be. In my Father’s house there are many mansions.” (Jn 14:1-3) Constantly we should thank Jesus that He has a place already prepared for us in Heaven! Let us live in such a way that when we die, we are ready to go to Heaven to be with Jesus!

8. ANGELS AND SAINTS.  Today in many parts of the world, many people suffer a constant, crushing loneliness. They have an overriding feeling that nobody cares for them, nobody loves them. For followers of Jesus, this is never the case because we belong to a warm and loving family—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and our Blessed Mother! Other important members of our family are the angels and the saints. They are the best of friends to us. We should form a habit of talking to them every day and thanking them for their friendship and assistance, for they are eager to help us whenever we ask them! Hopefully you pray to your Guardian Angel every day! Who are other favorite angels and saints that you pray to for help along the way? 

9. GOD’S MERCY AND PROVIDENCE.  How can we ever go through a day without thanking God for His Divine Providence and His Infinite Mercy? By Providence we mean the simple fact that God provides for us, defends us, protects us, nourishes us, and simply cares for us as a loving Father—let us render thanks for His Divine Providence! Even though we are weak, fragile, and prone to fall many times a day, our God is a loving and merciful Father who, when we ask for mercy, forgives us in a heartbeat. “Give thanks to the Lord for He is good; His mercy endures forever.” (Ps 107:1)

10. MARY MOST HOLY: OUR LIFE, OUR SWEETNESS, AND OUR HOPE.  Finally, let us never let a day go by in which we fail to talk to Mary as our loving Mother, as “our life, our sweetness, and our hope.” (Hail Holy Queen) How grateful we really should be that Mary is our Mother—she loves us, she prays for us, she cares for us, she protects us, and she will help us to pass from this life to the next in the state of grace. Then with our Mother Mary, we will love God, thank God, and praise God—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit for all eternity!

MIÉRCOLES, 24 de noviembre Lc. 21, 12-19 Verso de aleluya: «Permanece fiel hasta la muerte, y te daré la corona de la vida».

Hoy es un Evangelio muy sombrío donde Jesús habla de sufrir persecución por nuestra fe. Luego da dos grandes promesas para los que perseveran. «Seréis odiados por todos a causa de mi nombre, pero no se destruirá ni un pelo de vuestra cabeza. Por vuestra perseverancia aseguraréis vuestras vidas». Aquí no habla de nuestra vida mortal, sino de nuestra vida inmortal en el cielo por los siglos de los siglos. ¡Roguemos cada día perseverar en la gracia y así morir en estado de gracia!

¡PERSEVERANCIA EN NUESTRA CARRERA HACIA EL CIELO! Por el Padre Ed Broom. OMV

Hay una escena fabulosa en el clásico del cine Carros de Fuego, donde el héroe de la película, Eric Liddle, está corriendo los 400 metros contra otros tres velocistas. Casi al comienzo de la carrera, el corredor que está al lado de Liddle le da un codazo. Al caer al suelo, Liddle levanta la mirada contemplando el polvo que levanta el corredor.

Hay dos opciones: tirar la toalla y dar por terminada la carrera; o ponerse en pie, disparar e ir a por la victoria. Liddle opta por lo segundo. Con toda la energía de cada fibra de su fuerte cuerpo atlético, Liddle se lanza a por la victoria. Pasa a uno, luego pasa a otro, pero el corredor que le tiró al suelo sigue en cabeza. No por mucho tiempo. Eric Liddle da una última ráfaga de tremendo esfuerzo y atraviesa la línea de meta ganando por una fracción de segundo, desplomándose y cayendo al suelo. Jadeando, como un pez fuera del agua, su oponente vencido, la victoria es de Eric Liddle.

Uno de los entrenadores comentó: En efecto, no fue la victoria más bonita, pero sin duda fue la más valerosa. Contra todo pronóstico, gracias a su determinación, su fuerza de voluntad y sus agallas, Eric Liddle ganó los 400 metros y acabaría ganando el mismo título y la medalla de oro en los Juegos Olímpicos de Francia a principios del siglo XX.

Criado y educado en el entorno social y el contexto cultural de los Juegos Olímpicos griegos, San Pablo alude con cierta frecuencia a las hazañas atléticas o a los acontecimientos relacionados con la competición deportiva. Las dos competiciones deportivas más comunes mencionadas por el Apóstol de los Gentiles serían la del boxeo -estamos llamados a librar el buen combate- y la carrera o maratón. Pablo nos desafía a correr la buena carrera y recibir la merecida corona que espera al vencedor.

En otro pasaje, Pablo anima a los seguidores de Cristo a luchar no por una corona que perece, sino por la corona que durará para la vida eterna. En otras palabras, la victoria y la ganancia terrenales son como una corona de laurel colocada sobre nuestra cabeza; pronto se secará, se marchitará y perecerá. Nuestra corona eterna en el cielo nunca perecerá, sino que brillará para siempre.

El gran teólogo moral y doctor de la Iglesia, San Alfonso de Ligorio, afirma lo siguiente «La gracia de todas las gracias es morir en estado de gracia». ¿Qué significa? Si podemos apreciar la gracia, vivir en estado de gracia, crecer en gracia y terminar nuestra carrera en la tierra en estado de gracia, entonces habremos ganado la carrera final y alcanzado nuestra salvación eterna.

En efecto, cada día debemos implorar, rogar, suplicar al Señor Jesús, a su Madre Celestial María, a los ángeles y a los santos la gracia de todas las gracias: morir en estado de gracia. No existe mayor gracia en el mundo. Debemos suplicar esto para nosotros, nuestra familia, nuestros seres queridos y para el mundo entero. ¡Señor, concédenos esta gracia de todas las gracias!

Por lo tanto, siendo este el caso en la escala de las realidades eternas, nos gustaría exhortar calurosamente a todos a emprender cinco prácticas específicas para que todos puedan alcanzar la gracia de todas las gracias: ¡morir en estado de gracia y alcanzar la salvación eterna!

1. VIVE CADA DÍA COMO SI FUERA EL ÚLTIMO. Nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo nunca nos prometió otro año, otro mes, otra semana, otro día, otra hora, ni siquiera otro segundo. La vida que vivimos y el momento 

que morimos son totalmente inciertos. Puede que vivamos otros 25 años, pero puede que vivamos otros 25 segundos. Esto depende de los misteriosos designios de Dios.

2. ¡SALIR DEL PECADO MORTAL INMEDIATAMENTE! Si tu casa se incendiara por la noche, ¡obviamente no esperarías hasta el amanecer para llamar a los bomberos! En pecado mortal, nuestra casa espiritual está en llamas y debemos apagarlas primero haciendo un Acto Perfecto de Contrición inmediatamente, y luego recurriendo a la Confesión Sacramental lo antes posible. ¡No juegues a la ruleta rusa con tu salvación eterna!

3. COMUNIONES FERVIENTES, FRECUENTES Y ARDIENTES. Asiste a la Santa Misa con la mayor frecuencia posible. En estado de gracia, recibe a Jesús en la Santa Comunión. Sin embargo, ¡con gran fervor! Recibe al Señor Jesús Eucarístico como si fuera tu primera comunión, tu última comunión y tu única comunión. ¡El Señor quiere fervor y amor en tus recepciones!

4. HAZ LO QUE HACES SÓLO POR DIOS. El secreto de los santos es vivir lo que a veces se llama El Sacramento del Momento Presente. Esto significa: vivir cada día, hora y minuto de tu jornada con la intención de agradar a Dios, alabar a Dios, salvar almas y santificar tu propia alma. La pureza de intención en todo lo que decimos y hacemos es muy importante para Dios y para crecer en santidad de vida. San Pablo afirma: «Ya sea que comas o bebas, hazlo todo para el honor y la gloria de Dios». (1 Cor. 10:31) El tema de San Ignacio son las cuatro letras: A.M.D.G. -¡Todo para la mayor gloria de Dios! Santa Teresa lo expresaba así: «La santidad no depende de hacer grandes cosas, sino de hacer las cosas ordinarias de la vida diaria con un amor extraordinario».

5. LA SANTÍSIMA VIRGEN MARÍA: EL AVEMARÍA Y EL SANTO ROSARIO Finalmente, como ancla segura para nuestra salvación eterna nos dirigimos a la Santísima Virgen María. Como rezamos en el Memorare: «Nunca se supo que alguien que huyera a tu protección quedara sin ayuda». La oración que puede tener un valor incalculable para alcanzar la gracia de todas las gracias, para morir en estado de gracia y alcanzar nuestra salvación eterna, es el Ave María, mejor aún el Ave María rezada 50 veces; lo llamamos el Santísimo Rosario. Si podemos rezar esta poderosa arma a diario, rezando con fervor: «ruega por nosotros, pecadores, ahora y en la hora de nuestra muerte», sin duda la Santísima Virgen María estará presente en nuestros últimos y agónicos momentos rezando fervientemente por nuestra alma y ayudándonos a arrepentirnos de nuestros pecados, a confiar en la misericordia de Dios y a terminar amando a Dios. Así el Cielo será nuestro. La gracia de todas las gracias será nuestra.
