In an early scene in «Smile 2,» the fictional pop superstar Skye Riley is in her drug dealer’s apartment.
«Do you believe in weird stuff?» he asks her, between doing lines
of coke.
You certainly will after this horror romp – writer-director Parker Finn’s second movie that suddenly opens up the franchise with the promises of multiple directions in the future.
Not for that drug dealer, though: He soon smiles at her
demonically as he repeatedly slams a 35-pound gym weight into his head, making it hamburger.
«Smile 2» lands as unsettling grins are plastered on pumpkins and politicians alike as we approach
Halloween and Election Day, and the psychotic, overly made-up
leads of «Joker: Folie à Deux» have been putting up a brave face at their terrible box-office numbers.
So it’s the perfect time for a sequel to 2020’s «Smile,» which bridged the gap between elevated art horror and straight-out,
unapologetic slasher. Finn this time takes on fame, a better tonal fit than the generational trauma of the first.
It’s a meditation on breakdowns in the public eye,
with a side dish of body horror.
We start six days after the last movie but they
are barely connected – a single character for a few
minutes – as we watch a demon that forces its victims to smile before meeting
a gruesome end working its way into the low-level drug game.
The evil entity will eventually glom onto
our heroine, Skye, a fictional Grammy-winning pop superstar akin to
if Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus had a baby. We meet her a year after
a horrific car crash she was in that killed her famous boyfriend and left her with
a Vicodin addiction and rumors about whether she had anything to
do with it. That drug dealer has now infected Skye, but she has no idea what’s
in store (or in score, the terrific work of Cristobal Tapia de Veer).

On thing to really beam about is leading lady Naomi Scott going for it all-out, all snot, smeared blood and wide-eyed,
full on-fear. Scott manages to pour her humanity into the part – diva,
whimpering, defiant, strung out, panicked. She even sings on the soundtrack – songs that are credible hits.
The smile demon collides with Skye as she’s about to launch a comeback
tour and the pressure is on. Finn is at his best here,
mocking confessional TV interviews – a Drew Barrymore cameo, a nice
touch – full of self-work and apologies: «I let you down and I promise this will never happen again.» Her management demands that she
show up «smile and read from the teleprompter.» Skye’s mom – on the payroll –
is little help: «You need to stay hydrated,» she
tells her after Skye is clearly in torment.
Finn has become a much more assured filmmaker and uses humor
so well here, from nasty gangsters enjoying pumpkin Frappuccinos to
our heroine Googling «Does vomit have DNA?» He’s still fond of jump-scares and blood spurting and gross-out tricks, like a body dragged by
a truck until it’s just a smear with entrails.
One delightful moment has Skye chased by demonic backup dancers, a Bob Fosse-meets-«Thriller» sequence.
Finn also has a ball putting his heroines into cringe-worthy situations.
In the first movie, a murdered cat got bundled into a kid´s birthday
present. In this one, it’s a impromptu speech in front of music
industry types that goes horrifically off the rails.
He’s got a deeper target: How do we quiet those voices in our
heads that say we’re no good?
Finn’s script sometime lags as he searches for an ending for «Smile 2,» seemingly in two minds, before basically delivering both, kicking
up dream sequences and alternate timelines like a squid pumping out ink to cover its tracks.
Over two hours ends up being too long.
But he has found a great satirical target, given life to a
third film easily and showcased another rising star to watch.
That’s a reason to, well, smile about.
«Smile 2,» a Paramount Pictures release that lands in movie theaters on Friday, is rated R for
«strong bloody violent content, grisly images, language throughout and drug use.» Running time:
127 minutes. Three stars out of four.

Despite lead single Disease stalling on the Hot 100 at No.
27, the 38-year-old is forging ahead with her next album, which she described
as both ‘fun’ and ‘darker.’
Speaking to Vogue magazine about the project, Gaga said that she’s been focused
on the production side of her new songs.
‘I love producing — I always have — and something that was really important to me
making my seventh studio album was blending live instrumentation with programming,’ she
explained.
‘The album is chaotic from a genre perspective — it is genre-bending,
and I think in that way is a deeply personal look into
my mind as a producer and the way I think about music.’
She also said that the album has a ‘darker pop’ sound that’s
more in line with her iconic 2009 album, The Fame Monster.
However, fans need not be worried that Gaga is going too
somber with her sound.
‘The album is not extremely serious in that it’s very
fun and meant to be enjoyed at a party, in a club, or at home having personal fun time — to be free
of your worries at home or walking through life,’ she insisted.
Lady Gaga is focused on releasing her seventh studio album this
February following the disappointing reception to lead single Disease
Gaga released the album’s lead single Disease last month to rave reviews from music critics, who lauded it as a return to
the star’s roots.
Unfortunately, the acclaim failed to translate to the charts, with Disease
debuting at No. 27 on the Hot 100 – her worst entry for a lead single in 16 years.
On the bright side, Gaga is currently enjoying one of her biggest hits in years thanks to her
Bruno Mars duet, Die With a Smile.
The ballad has so far reached No. 2 on the Hot 100 and No.
1 on the Pop Airplay Chart.
It comes after Gaga’s leading role in the disastrous Joker: Folie
à Deux.
The follow-up to the Oscar-winning 2019 film, starring Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck (Joker) and Gaga
as Lee Quinzel (Harley Quinn), faced negative
reviews from critics before its October 4 release and flopped
at the box office.

by the opposition.
Some people waited 12 hours in line to vote in presidential and legislative polls, billed as
the toughest yet for the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) party,
in power since Namibia’s 1990 independence from South africa.
Wednesday’s queues were caused by many technical problems, including issues with
tablets used to register voters and shortages of ballot papers.
In some cases, torches used to show up invisible ink had run out of batteries
and mobile voting teams had left areas with voters still
in the queues, it said.
Facing criticism from both voters and parties, the
electoral commission extended the vote for a second time, giving Namibians until Saturday evening to vote.
In the capital Windhoek, at the only polling station picked to reopen,
about 60 people showed up on Friday, including
Kluivert Muuondjo who arrived at 4:30 am.
The 21-year-old student said he had waited in line until 11:00 pm on Wednesday but left before
being able to vote as he had exams the next day.

«Everyone will have the chance to vote,» he said.
But because Namibians can vote at any given polling station, he was worried «everyone will flock to one place again.»
The disarray led to angry complaints from opposition parties with some calling for a halt in the electoral process.
Opposition parties were scheduled to meet on Friday and issue a joint statement, according
to Christine Aochamus who represents the Independent Patriots for Change
(IPC) party.
Youth unemployment, enduring inequalities and the emergence of a generation born after
independence are challenging support towards SWAPO
which has ruled since 1990.
Its candidate, vice-president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who could
become the first woman to lead the country if elected, could face an unprecedented second round in the mineral rich country.
«To open only one place in Khomas (the region of which the capital is part of) is absurd,»
said voter Ensley Engermund, who also said he couldn’t vote on Wednesday because of long queues despite trying four different polling stations.
«Only 1.5 millions voters are registered and we get this chaos?» asked the
49-year-old security agent.

Melania was admired and beloved by the political and permanent staffers alike, asking after their children by name,
welcoming them to events big and small, and treating them with inclusivity and
respect.
Known as a protective and present mother, Melania now uses

Even when I’ve suggested she push back on myriad false claims made by the media or ungrateful
former staffers who have returned her trust in them with self-serving
lies and revisionist history, she has declined, knowing that
her silence is always more powerful.
Behind closed doors, Trump has, for decades, regarded his wife as a
top confidante and counselor. Whether as an international business mogul, a TV star or, lately, leader of the free
world, it is Melania’s opinion that he has consistently sought.
Trump enjoys the company of plenty of friends, taking a range of advice,
but he speaks of – and to – Melania in an entirely unique way.
Really, he fears yet reveres her. He respects her independence, seeks her input, trusts her keen eye, sharp ear and sense
of people.
I have witnessed their relationship up close, and it is one fundamentally built on mutual love and
respect. Recently, as Barron was heading off for college and
Melania was preparing to publish her memoir, I jokingly asked Trump how it might feel to
be the second most popular man and the second most prominent author in the household.

She is not a typical political spouse rushing to the cameras on matters that are best handled privately, or loudly offering insights

She is an asset, a partner, an equal who is neither
trying to control – looking at you, Jill Biden –
nor controlled by her partner. She is what many feminists insist they are: independent, a product of her own choices,
comfortable in her own skin.
She has been by Trump’s side the entire time. Though never in his shadow.
In fact, from that very first moment they descended the golden escalator, she’s been leading the
way.

For a few seconds, the two stars sat in silence as they both waited for the other
to answer the question.
‘Tell them how you feel, Joaquin,’ Lady Gaga, 38, said to her costar as she held out a fake microphone in front of him.
‘It’s so hard to talk about but I think we feel like we achieved what we set out to do,
‘ Joaquin, 49, simply stated.
Someone on X, formerly Twitter, posted the moment online last week and it
went viral, gaining more then 437,000 views in a matter
of days – and many users took their initial silence
as proof that they ‘didn’t like’ the film.
The internet has been flooded with negative posts about
the flick ever since it premiered, with one user branding it as
a ‘bore’ and another claiming it had ‘no plot.’
Many social media users have also slammed the movie’s final scene,
which saw main character Arthur Fleck (portrayed by Joaquin)
brutally stabbed to death by a fellow inmate.
This meant that the man that audiences had been watching over the course of the
two movies was never the Joker at all, but in fact, the infamous villain from the Batman series was really just the random inmate who killed Arthur in the last moments of
the film.
The shocking twist left numerous viewers unsatisfied, and they took to social media
to share their frustration.

‘WTF you mean no Joker?’
‘The ending made no sense,’ added another person.
‘That ending? It’s so bad that not only it ruins
Joker 2 but also the first Joker for the audience,’ read a fourth
tweet.
‘The Joker had so much potential but that f**king ending ruined everything,’ a fifth
said.
The Todd Phillips-directed musical serves as a follow-up to the 2019 box office hit, which
was simply titled Joker.
The first film grossed over $1 billion and at the time was the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.
It received 11 Oscar nominations – two of which it won.
The sequel, however, has already been much less successful.
It had a lackluster $40 million debut at the box office in its first
weekend, and has a low rating of 33 percent
and 31 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
‘Undoing much of the goodwill from its predecessor, the sequel convolutes what
could have been a unique character study into a bloated encore that goes out
with a whimper,’ reads one review.
Another critic wrote, ‘This movie is a disjointed mess and a waste of
time. It’s just tired, not particularly interesting, but it does look good from a production design standpoint.’

July 23 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International pushed the test-launch of its heated tobacco device, IQOS, in the U.S.
to the fourth quarter on Tuesday and lowered its annual forecast
for the heated tobacco business.
The pilot was earlier scheduled to run in Austin, Texas, in the second quarter, for which the company reported results on the day.
The company declined to comment on why the launch had been delayed.
Philip Morris has invested billions to promote and expand its portfolio
of alternatives to traditional combustible cigarettes amid stricter regulations and falling smoking rates in some markets.
The launch of its flagship heated tobacco device in the United States is also facing
resistance from health campaigners, who have written to regulators in the country accusing the company of misrepresenting past
regulatory decisions, Reuters reported last week.
The company also awaits market authorization from the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration for its IQOS ILUMA device, which it expects by the second half
of 2025.
A ban on flavored heated tobacco in the European Union has already hit shipments this year, with Philip Morris saying the impact
from the ban was «slightly greater» than previously assumed.
This led the company to temper its expectations for volume growth in the heated tobacco category to around
13% for the full year, down from between 14% and 16% expected earlier.
However, Philip Morris topped quarterly expectations and raised its annual sales and profit forecasts,
betting on demand for its Zyn nicotine pouches, as well as higher cigarette pricing.

Do Greens and crossbenchers who claim that transparency and integrity is at the heart of their reason for entering Parliament in the first place
hear themselves?
In the past few days they have mounted self-serving arguments against proposed electoral reforms that
the major parties look set to come together to support.
The reforms include caps for how much money wealthy individuals
can donate, caps on the amount candidates can spend in individual electorates to prevent the equivalent of an arms race, and
a $90million limit on what any party can spend
at an election – actually less than the major parties currently spend.
The proposed new laws also include lower disclosure thresholds for
donations, thus increasing the transparency of who makes political donations in the first place.
So the wealthy wont be able to hide behind anonymity while using their cash
to influence election outcomes – and the extent to which they can use their wealth at all will be limited.
The bill will further improve transparency by also increasing the speed and frequency that disclosures of donations need to be made.
At present we have the absurd situation in which donations get made – but you only find out the details of who has given what to whom many months later, well after elections are won and lost.
In other words, what is broadly being proposed will result in much
greater transparency and far less big money being injected
into campaigning by the wealthy.
Teal Kylea Tink claimed the major parties were ‘running scared’ with the policy and warned the
reform would ‘not stop the rot’
Greens senate leader Larissa Waters (left) fired a
warning shot – saying if it serves only the major parties ‘it’s
a rort, not reform’. Teal independent ACT senator David Pocock (right) said:
‘What seems to be happening is a major-party stitch-up’
Anyone donating more than $1,000 to a political party, as opposed to $16,000 under the current rules, will need
to disclose having done so. And how much they can donate will be capped.
Yet the Greens and Teals have quickly condemned the proposed new laws,
labeling them a ‘stitch-up’, ‘outrageous’ and ‘a rort, not a reform’.
They have lost their collective minds after finding
out that Labor’s proposal just might secure the
support of the opposition.
I had to double check who was criticising what
exactly before even starting to write this column.
Because I had assumed – incorrectly – that these important transparency measures stamping out the influence of the wealthy must have been proposed
by the virtue-signalling Greens or the corruption-fighting Teals, in a united crossbench effort to drag the major parties closer to accountability.
More fool me.
The bill, designed to clean up a rotten system, is being
put forward by Labor and is opposed by a growing cabal of crossbenchers.
It makes you wonder what they have to hide. Put simply, the Greens and Teals doth protest too much on this
issue.
Labor is thought to be trying to muscle out major political donors such as Clive Palmer

The Greens have taken massive donations in the past, contrary to their irregular calls to
tighten donations rules (Greens leader Adam Bandt and Senator
Mehreen Faruqi are pictured)
The major parties have long complained about the influence
the likes of Simon Holmes à Court wields behind the scenes
amongst the Teals.
And we know the Greens have taken massive donations from
the wealthy in the past, contrary to their irregular calls to
tighten donations rules.
Now that tangible change has been proposed, these bastions of virtue are running a mile from
reforms that will curtail dark art of political donations.
The Labor government isn’t even seeking for these transparency rules to take effect immediately, by the
way. It won’t be some sort of quick-paced power play before the next election designed to catch the crossbench
out.
They are aiming for implementation by 2026, giving everyone enough time to
absorb and understand the changes before preparing for them.
Don’t get me wrong, no deal has yet been done between Labor and
the Coalition. I imagine the opposition want to go over the
laws with a fine tooth comb.
As they should – because it certainly isn’t beyond Labor to include hidden one-party advantages in the proposed design which would create loopholes only the unions are capable
of taking advantage of, therefore disadvantaging the Coalition electorally in the years to come.
But short of such baked-in trickiness scuttling a deal to get these proposed laws implemented,
the crossbench should offer their support, not cynical opposition, to what is being advocated for.
They might even be able to offer something worthwhile that
could be incorporated in the package.
To not do so exposes their utter hypocrisy and blowhard false commentary about being in politics to ‘clean things up’.

A billionaire couple have won the right to remove a single tree from the driveway of their lavish $20million mansion after being blocked
by their local council.
Paul Holmes a Court, the son of Australia’s first billionaire Robert Holmes a Court, and his wife Zara had been at loggerheads with their local council over a request to remove a single
peppermint tree growing in the middle of their driveway.
The couple bought the four-bedroom mansion in the affluent, tree-lined suburb overlooking Perth’s Freshwater Bay
for $20.1million in August.
They wanted to remove the tree but the Shire of Peppermint Grove refused the request on the
grounds the tree was not dead or deceased.
‘We are very lucky to live here, but I have to say that the tree placement is unusual,’ Ms Holmes a Court previously told a council meeting.
‘I’m quite a reasonable and rational person, but a tree in the middle of the driveway
makes it quite tricky to reverse out.’
The couple enjoyed a breakthrough at a council meeting last week
after an alternative motion was unanimously passed that allowed the tree to be removed
on the condition they paid a $2,500 bond before any work was done
on the driveway.
They will also need to plant two replacement trees on their property.

After the motion to remove the tree was passed at the meeting,
councillor Douglas Jackson said it was a ‘good outcome’.
‘I think it meets both the owners’ wants, or expectation, but also matches the council’s needs at the same time by ensuring that
there is tree cover on the verge of that property,’ he said.
Peppermint Grove is hoping to implement a policy that would even make it an offence to damage or remove any mature trees on private property without council approval.
Last month, WA Planning Minister John Carey said he hoped the Shire of Peppermint Grove would ‘take a common sense approach’ to the issue.
‘This is part of the challenge that we do have with local government.
I’ve always been on the record that we need local governments to take a
common sense approach to issues,’ Mr Carey told the West Australian.
‘And I understand people are passionate about trees. But ultimately, we do need local governments to assess the situation and find pragmatic outcomes.’
According to the online listing for the four-bedroom, four-bathroom mansion –
which is built on a corner block along the banks of the Swan River –
the sprawling Federation-style property was built in around 1904.

The existence of an exclusive hideaway for the country’s movers and shakers where secret deals were done in private luxury
first exploded into the public eye back in 2007.
Back then, the fact that Qantas spent hundreds of thousands
of dollars wining and dining the nation’s political elite in ultra-exclusive
VIP lounges was relatively unknown.
It was a time before Alan Joyce’s tenure as the CEO of Qantas had even started, when he was boss of the
comparatively lowly budget airline, Jetstar.
And unlike Anthony Albanese’s current slide in the polls leading
up to an election in next year, the prospects back in 2007
were rosy for Labor.
The election that was looming was the ‘Kevin 07’ landslide that would see Kevin Rudd
become prime minister and John Howard lose his
own seat.
The issue which blew open the ‘guilty secret’ of the Chairman’s
Lounge then wasn’t about a prime minister’s privileges, although John Howard
and Kevin Rudd were certainly both members during their terms as PM.
But when broadcaster Steve Price – himself a long time Chairman’s
Lounge member – revealed a politically charged remark made within the club’s hallowed walls,
the cat was out of the bag.
The political revelation – a comment by ex-rock star turned senator
Peter Garrett that Labor would change the policies it campaigned on if it won government – did not
deter his party from romping in on election day.

Albanese about his Chairman’s Lounge membership
and that of his ex-wife Carmel Tebbutt, and their son Nathan could bring down the prime minister.

Broadcaster Steve Price revealed he had been a Chairman’s Lounge member
since 2002 during a row before the 2007 election won by Kevin Rudd which let the cat out of the bag about the VIP club
The existence of the lounge was so little known back in 2007 that in defending his disclosure of
Garrett’s remark, Steve Price had to explain what the private enclave actually was.
In a first person piece he wrote: ‘The Chairman’s Lounge is a separate frequent
flyers lounge away from the crowded normal Qantas Club.
‘As its name implies, the people given access to
it are approved by the Qantas chairman, Margaret Jackson.
‘I have been a Chairman’s Lounge member since 2002.’
In his opinion piece, Price also revealed TV entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins was
also a member of lounge.
Wilkins had also been inside at the time and was his only witness to the remark Price said Garrett had made.
Other prominent media figures, such as 60
Minutes reporters, actors and performers, and well-known writers
and sports people are said to be among the lounge’s exclusive membership of around 6000.
Price went on to defend himself for reporting what some
claimed was a confidential conversation in a private place, but which exposed him to criticism over his
own membership for allegedly promoting Qantas on his radio show.

One observer has described the relationship bet6ween leading
politicians such as PM Anthony Albanese and the former

‘Why on earth is Qantas giving a controversial shock jock membership of its Chairman’s Lounge, which is supposedly to enable our elite politicians and
business leaders some privacy from the hoi polloi?’ demanded Crikey reporter Stephen Mayne at the time.
‘The Chairman’s Lounge is meant to be all about discretion and confidentiality,’ he said, accusing Price of breaking ‘a confidence’.
The following year, before he was succeeded as Qantas CEO by Alan Joyce, Geoff Dixon was the sole gatekeeper of entry into the club’s hushed confines.
Qantas Chairman’s Lounge membership was ‘so exclusive that you have
to be personally invited by the airline’s chieftain’, Nine newspapers
reported in 2008.
‘A marvellous benefit of lounge membership is that the mega rich
and powerful avoid having to mingle with the riffraff who will be
travelling cattle class.
‘Having said that, members of the ultra-exclusive club have included Pauline Hanson.
‘Another lounge member is Brad Cooper, who is currently enjoying a prolonged exposure to cattle-class in Kirkconnell Correctional Centre.’ (Cooper was the former HIH insurance executive
jailed for eight years on fraud and bribery offences).

The report noted that politicians declaring membership of the lounge ‘which
most of their spouses got too’ in their pecuniary interests that year included Liberal MPs
of the day, Philip Ruddock, Bob Baldwin and Andrew Southcott.
Labor MPs with lounge privileges included Tanya Plibersek,
Bob McMullan, and Sharon Grierson, and Martin Ferguson declared a bottle of Grange hermitage as a
gift from Qantas, as did Liberal, Christopher Pyne.
Asked if all MPs got the captain’s pick from Geoff Dixon, the airline’s
spokesperson told Nine: ‘We like to retain a bit of mystery. Membership is
by invitation only and it is reviewed periodically.’
Fast forward to today, and nearly every single federal politician in the country has accepted free membership of the controversial,
invitation-only lounge with one even describing it as
an ‘entitlement’.
Qantas and the Albanese government recently denied the
‘very, very high-end perk’ gives the airline a disproportionate level
of influence over the country’s politicians.
They were commenting ahead of the launch
of the new book The Chairman’s Lounge by former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston, which has stirred up the controversy.
A Daily Mail Australia audit of the members’ interest registers
– in both Federal Parliament’s House of Representatives and the Senate – revealed almost
93 per cent of the nation’s leaders have been ‘gifted’ membership to
the lavish, all-inclusive lounge.
Mr Albanese has defended himself by saying he declared all
his benefits in pecuniary interest statements.
At a press conference this week, he repeated that all of his upgrades ‘have been declared as appropriate.
What’s appropriate is transparency.’
Apart from the PM, members include every one of his 22-person Cabinet, his
seven-person Outer Ministry and all 12 assistant ministers.

politicians who have disclosed they have taken up free membership to the contentious club.
Bill Shorten is a member, Tanya Plibersek is still a member and so is Teal MP, Zali Steggall.
Last year it was reported that Australian Competition and
Consumer Commission chairwoman Gina Cass-Gottlieb and Australian Securities and Investments Commission chairman Joe Longo and some of their deputies
are members of the Chairman’s Lounge despite regulating
the airline.
Senior public servants in the club included Department
of Prime Minister and Cabinet secretary Glyn Davis, deputy secretaries Nadine Williams, Liz Hefren-Webb, Rachel Bacon and
ambassador to Beijing, Scott Dewar.
Other Qantas freebies bestowed on members include numerous business class flight
upgrades, model Qantas aircrafts, frequent flyer points,
and tickets to sporting and entertainment events.
Touted as ‘the most exclusive club in the country’, membership to the
Chairman’s Lounge is still veiled in secrecy.

Geoffrey Watson SC, a former counsel assisting the
Independent Commission Against Corruption and a director of the Centre for Public
Integrity, has implored all politicians and policymakers to follow
suit.
‘There are certain positions in life where you cannot take Chairman’s Club membership,’ he said.
‘You’re taking public money for the job and you are supposed to represent the public.

The movie studio spent about $200 million to produce the film and about $100
million on marketing and distribution, according to
the report.
It would need to gross about $450 million at the box office
to break even — when factoring in the cut taken by theaters — though Warner Bros.
sources claim the number is $375 million.
A Warner Bros. spokesperson responded to the report, saying ‘Any estimates suggested by anonymous «insiders» or «rival executives» are grossly
wrong and continues a trend where rumor is reported as fact.’

included with this week’s opening in China, and will continue to earn revenue throughout
its home viewing and ancillary run.’
So far, the musical about Batman’s nemesis has grossed $51.5 million domestically and $165 million globally after
two weeks of release.

with DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran notably absent from the
film’s LA premiere afterparty last month.
A source said: ‘If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck, mentally ill guy in a
downtrodden city, it makes maybe $150 [million] worldwide. Not a
billion. People showed up because that guy was Joker.’
In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the film does not include a DC Studios
logo.
A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the end of
the Joker sequel, while Phillips declined to comment to the publication.
Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips, DC
and Warner- with claims that Michael DeLuca, Chairperson of Warner Bros.
Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to say no to Phillips due to
his huge past successes.
It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca and Abdy rather than Gunn and Safran – who took control of DC two months before production began on Joker 2 in December 2022.
Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut screening for the studio but Phillips fueled rift speculation when he told a reporter:
‘With all due respect to them, this is kind of a Warner
Bros. movie.’

The studio wanted to film in London which would have cost around
20 per cent less.
A source directly involved with the film recently shared: ‘The one thing about genre stuff: If you
don’t listen and pay attention to what the fan expectations are, you’re going to fail’; director Todd Phillips seen with Gaga
and Phoenix at the LA premiere September 30
However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the budget remaining static.
A Warner spokesman told the publication the studio ‘supported the decision to film in Los Angeles’.

Insiders also claim studio bosses did not want to premiere the film at the Venice

Along with Gaga and Phoenix, other stars that had appeared
in the sequel include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener,
Zazie Beatz and Steve Coogan.

An actress was swept to her death by a giant wave while exercising on her yoga mat on a
popular tourist island in Thailand.
Kamilla Belyatskaya, 24, was swept away from the beauty spot on Koh Samui just moments after filming herself on her pink
yoga mat overlooking the Gulf of Thailand.
Harrowing footage showed Kamila out in the swirling sea after being hit by a
large wave and washed into the frothing waters.
A bystander reportedly went into the waves to try and save her, without success.
His fate is not known.
Later the mat was seen floating in the violent seas off Koh Samui, one of Thailand’s most
popular islands.
The tourist, from Russia’s third city, Novosibirsk, had been visiting Thailand’s
second-largest island with her boyfriend, it is understood.
She had gone up to the Lad Ko Viewpoint to watch the waves, apparently going
on her own to exercise in front of the view.
She had told her social media followers how she loved this spot
and repeatedly returned to the island, which she called ‘home’ and ‘the best place on earth’.
Kamilla Belyatskaya, an amateur actress, had travelled to the Thai spot to exercise

Footage showed a figure in the water as harsh waves crashed
down overhead
She had gone to the Lad Ko Viewpoint to watch the waves, and was seen arriving nearby
in a red car.
She retrieved a pink foam mat from the boot of her car before walking to the
beauty spot which offers panoramic views of the island.
Video showed her figure bobbing in the water as strong
currents violently contorted the water, and waves crashed down overhead.
Rescue teams were also hampered by the raging seas.
While they arrived only 15 minutes after she was swept into the sea, there
was nothing they could do to save her.
Kamila had previously posted about the beauty spot: ‘I love Samui so much.
But this place, this rocky beach is the best thing I’ve ever seen in my
life.
‘Thank you, universe, for me being here right now.
I’m very happy. I’m happy!’
Her boyfriend along with eyewitnesses gave statements to local police on the tragedy.
‘The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by monsoon conditions, with authorities urging visitors to exercise
extreme caution and avoid rocky coastal areas
during periods of high waves,’ said one Thai report.
Thailand is increasingly popular with Russian tourists, including men seeking
to avoid being forced into Vladimir Putin’s war against Ukraine.
Kamila had been sat on the rocks, apparently meditating, as the waters grew more violent

Authorities arrived 15 minutes later but their rescue efforts were

Some 1.48 million visited Thailand in the last year.
Chaiyaporn Subprasert, head of the Samui Rescue Centre,
said warning systems were in place across the island’s beaches.
‘During monsoon season, we constantly warn tourists, especially in high-risk areas like Chaweng and Lamai beaches, where red flags indicate no swimming.
‘While the incident’s location is not a swimming area
but rather a viewpoint for scenery, the victim may have been caught off guard by the unexpected wave surge.’
Local authorities have established a marine search and rescue centre to coordinate ongoing efforts to locate the missing tourist and the man reported to have gone in to save her.

the Russian market, citing a complex and rapidly changing regulatory and operating
environment in the country following its invasion of Ukraine.

several cigarette products and canceled all product launches for the year in Russia.
