Hermanos: Recuerden que el que poco siembra, cosecha poco, y el que mucho siembra cosecha mucho. Cada cual dé lo que su corazón le diga y no de mala gana ni por compromiso, pues Dios ama al que da con alegría. Y poderoso es Dios para colmarlos de toda clase de favores, a fin de que, teniendo siempre todo lo necesario, puedan participar generosamente en toda obra buena. Como dice la Escritura: Repartió a manos llenas a los pobres; su justicia permanece eternamente.
Dios, que proporciona la semilla al sembrador y le da pan para comer, les proporcionará a ustedes una cosecha abundante y multiplicará los frutos de su justicia.

El que quiera servirme que me siga, para que donde yo esté, también esté mi servidor. El que me sirve será honrado por mi Padre’’.

En 258, tiempo de persecución, Lorenzo sospechaba que el emperador romano iba a demander los bienes que poseyeran los cristianos en Roma. El vendió las cosas y distribuyó el dinero a los pobres, los lisiados, los ciegos, a todos los necesitados.
Cuando Lorenzo fue obligado a entregar los tesoros de la Iglesia al emperador. él le pidió que le diera tres días de plazo para reunir todos los tesoros del a Iglesia. Pero ya los había repartido entre los pobres y señalando a los pobres dijo: “Estos son los tesoros de la Iglesia”. El emperador se enojó tanto que le condenó a muerte.
