going to bomb, man.’ I go, ‘This is the worst thing I’ve ever
seen.’
‘We were talking about it at lunch, and we’d go, ‘What is the plot?
Is there a plot? I don’t know, I think he falls in love with her in the prison?’ It’s not even hate-watchable.
That’s how terrible it is.’
Despite the negative reviews a number of fans of the sequel took to social media after its release last month to defend the
sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 motion picture.
The film debuted to a paltry $40 million at the domestic box office, good
enough for the weekend’s top spot, but less than projections, and half that
of its predecessor.
Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up for the movie and its cinematic depth, in breaking away from the cookie cutter nature
of sequels to introduce a musical element not present in the
first film, with Lady Gaga joining the franchise.
‘Joker 2 was amazing,’ one user said, adding that it was ‘100% as divisive as
people are making it out to be. I love that the film didn’t try to be a traditional sequel, and
fully committed to the storytelling they presented.
It never deviated to be a film full of Easter eggs or any other crowd
pleasing aspects.’
Another user said, ‘I kinda loved Joker 2. I loved how it was structured as a meta-exploration of

Wallace, 60, is also accused mimicking a sex act in front of a member of the show’s production staff who was kneeling down to clean his trousers during

On one occasion he allegedly told a junior female colleague he

The BBC has revealed that 13 people, including Ms Wark, have complained about his conduct
while working with him over a 17-year period across five shows, from 2005 to
2022.
The BBC claims that Wallace walked away from MasterChef today after BBC
News sent a letter to his agent on Tuesday, setting out
allegations from 13 people and giving him a right of reply.
They say he was warned after a complaint was raised
in 2018, but new historical claims emerged over the summer of 2024.
Wallace, 60, is ‘committed to fully cooperating
throughout the process’, the show’s production company Banijay UK said.
But he will be on BBC One as usual tonight because MasterChef:
The Professionals, which is already recorded, will transmit as planned and into December. MasterChef’s Christmas specials will also still be broadcast.
Mr Wallace is yet to comment today – but at the time of the announcement this afternoon he did take to Instagram to share his
recipe for prawn tacos with pineapple salsa.

Facing criticism from both voters and parties, the electoral commission extended the vote for a second time, giving
Namibians until Saturday evening to vote.
In the capital Windhoek, at the only polling station picked
to reopen, about 60 people showed up on Friday, including Kluivert Muuondjo who
arrived at 4:30 am.
The 21-year-old student said he had waited in line until 11:
00 pm on Wednesday but left before being able to vote as he had
exams the next day.

«Everyone will have the chance to vote,» he said. But because
Namibians can vote at any given polling station, he was worried «everyone will flock to one place again.»
The disarray led to angry complaints from opposition parties with
some calling for a halt in the electoral process.
Opposition parties were scheduled to meet on Friday and issue a joint statement, according
to Christine Aochamus who represents the Independent
Patriots for Change (IPC) party.
Youth unemployment, enduring inequalities and the emergence of a generation born after independence are challenging
support towards SWAPO which has ruled since 1990.
Its candidate, vice-president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who could become
the first woman to lead the country if elected, could face an unprecedented second round in the
mineral rich country.
«To open only one place in Khomas (the region of which the capital is part of) is absurd,» said voter Ensley Engermund, who also said he couldn’t vote on Wednesday because of long queues despite
trying four different polling stations.
«Only 1.5 millions voters are registered and we get this chaos?» asked the
49-year-old security agent.

Hamas’ leader Yahya Sinwar could have given an order to execute all the hostages who remain in Gaza if he
died, a top Israeli negotiator has claimed.
Sinwar died on Wednesday after the IDF encountered him by chance,

Those who remain alive are at risk of never being returned to their families, according Haaretz,
which reported on Sunday that top US officials, including Secretary
of State Anthony Blinken, have assessed there is
a slim chance of a deal being brokered, given the tensions between Israel and Hamas.

They added: ‘It’s unclear how Sinwar’s death will impact any potential negotiations, if they even exist at this stage.’
While Baskin told the Telegraph that it wasn’t possible to confirm whether Sinwar had a kill order on the hostages, he
said the rumours ought to be taken seriously, given how little Hamas appears to care for
them.
He cited the horrific killing of six hostages in tunnels
under Rafah in late August.
Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said the six were ‘cruelly murdered by
Hamas just a short time before we got to them.’
The six dead hostages were identified as Eden Yerushalmi, 24, Carmel Gat,
39, Almog Sarusi, 26, Alex Lubnov, 26, Ori Danino, 25, and Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23.
Five of those who were recovered had been attending the Nova music
festival when Hamas terrorists began slaughtering festivalgoers, while taking others hostage.
Gat was at her family kibbutz when she was captured.

Do Greens and crossbenchers who claim that transparency and integrity is at the heart of their reason for entering Parliament in the
first place hear themselves?
In the past few days they have mounted self-serving arguments against proposed electoral reforms that
the major parties look set to come together to support.
The reforms include caps for how much money wealthy individuals can donate, caps on the amount candidates can spend in individual electorates to prevent the equivalent of an arms race, and a $90million limit on what any party
can spend at an election – actually less than the major parties currently spend.
The proposed new laws also include lower disclosure thresholds for donations, thus increasing the transparency
of who makes political donations in the first
place.
So the wealthy wont be able to hide behind anonymity while using their cash to influence election outcomes – and the extent to
which they can use their wealth at all will be
limited.
The bill will further improve transparency by also increasing the speed and frequency that disclosures
of donations need to be made.
At present we have the absurd situation in which donations get made – but you only find out the details of who has given what
to whom many months later, well after elections are won and lost.
In other words, what is broadly being proposed will result in much greater transparency
and far less big money being injected into campaigning by the
wealthy.
Teal Kylea Tink claimed the major parties were ‘running scared’ with the
policy and warned the reform would ‘not stop the rot’
Greens senate leader Larissa Waters (left) fired a warning shot – saying if it
serves only the major parties ‘it’s a rort, not reform’. Teal independent ACT senator David Pocock
(right) said: ‘What seems to be happening is a major-party stitch-up’
Anyone donating more than $1,000 to a political party, as opposed to $16,000 under the current rules, will need to disclose having done so.
And how much they can donate will be capped.
Yet the Greens and Teals have quickly condemned the proposed new laws, labeling them
a ‘stitch-up’, ‘outrageous’ and ‘a rort, not a reform’.
They have lost their collective minds after finding
out that Labor’s proposal just might secure the support of the opposition.
I had to double check who was criticising what exactly before even starting to write this column.
Because I had assumed – incorrectly – that these important
transparency measures stamping out the influence of the wealthy must have been proposed by the virtue-signalling Greens or the corruption-fighting Teals,
in a united crossbench effort to drag the major parties closer to accountability.
More fool me.
The bill, designed to clean up a rotten system, is being put
forward by Labor and is opposed by a growing cabal of crossbenchers.
It makes you wonder what they have to hide.
Put simply, the Greens and Teals doth protest too much on this issue.
Labor is thought to be trying to muscle out major political donors
such as Clive Palmer
Another potential target of the laws is businessman and Teal funder Simon Holmes

The Greens have taken massive donations in the past, contrary to their irregular calls to tighten donations rules (Greens leader Adam Bandt
and Senator Mehreen Faruqi are pictured)
The major parties have long complained about the influence the likes of Simon Holmes à Court wields behind the scenes amongst the Teals.
And we know the Greens have taken massive donations from the
wealthy in the past, contrary to their irregular calls
to tighten donations rules.
Now that tangible change has been proposed, these bastions of virtue are running a mile from reforms that will curtail dark art of political donations.
The Labor government isn’t even seeking for these transparency rules
to take effect immediately, by the way. It won’t be some sort of quick-paced power play
before the next election designed to catch the crossbench out.
They are aiming for implementation by 2026, giving everyone enough time to absorb and
understand the changes before preparing for them.
Don’t get me wrong, no deal has yet been done between Labor and the
Coalition. I imagine the opposition want to go over the laws with a fine
tooth comb.
As they should – because it certainly isn’t beyond Labor to include hidden one-party
advantages in the proposed design which would create loopholes only the unions are capable
of taking advantage of, therefore disadvantaging the Coalition electorally in the years to come.
But short of such baked-in trickiness scuttling a deal to get these proposed laws
implemented, the crossbench should offer their support, not
cynical opposition, to what is being advocated for.
They might even be able to offer something worthwhile that
could be incorporated in the package.
To not do so exposes their utter hypocrisy and blowhard false commentary about being in politics to ‘clean things up’.

guilty Tuesday in US federal court to charges of sex trafficking

Briton Matthew Smith, the ex-CEO Mike Jeffries and their fixer James Jacobson allegedly used a «casting couch»
ploy to groom aspiring male models to attend sex parties at
which victims were plied with alcohol and drugs.
After his arrest in October in Florida with Jeffries, Smith was held in custody
in New York. Smith appeared in court Tuesday in Central Islip on Long Island, to the east of New York City.
Smith pleaded not guilty and was released on a $10 million bond put up by Jeffries and his family, said a
statement from the US attorney’s office for the eastern district of New York.

with what appeared to be a large electronic surveillance bracelet attached to his ankle.

on the role of Harleen Lee Quinzel (Harley Quinn).
However, Joker: Folie À Deux has been given a D rating on CinemaScore — the lowest
score for a comic book movie at the time of writing.
Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters
earlier this year and also received terrible reviews
— holds a higher score with a C+.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of
31 percent and a critic score of 33 percent.
The sequel is projected to rake in less that $50 million at the domestic box office during the entirety of opening weekend, per The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the number has since drastically dropped.
Joker (2019) notably opened with $96.2 million when the film first released in theaters – and
eventually landed a little over $1 billion in the global box office.

score of 31% and a critic score of 32%

between $55 and $70 million. However, the budget increased for Folie À Deux to around $200 million.
The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews from both critics
and audiences – and won the Golden Lion during the 76th
Venice International Film Festival.
Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of the Joker (Arthur Fleck) – and the film garnered
an additional Academy Award for Best Original Score.
The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film Festival last month in September,
where it earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.
However, audiences have since taken to X after the movie released in theaters on Friday – and shared their opinions
on the sequel, which features musical sequences.
One fan penned, ‘Joaquin Phoenix don’t deserve this.

July 28 (Reuters) – Marlboro maker Altria Group Inc said on Tuesday it
expected full-year earnings to rise as much as 4% from last year and announced plans to make
IQOS heated-tobacco devices available in more markets across the United States.
The company also increased its annual dividend by 2.4%, saying it had more clarity on the COVID-19
pandemic’s effects on consumer demand.
Altria said it would expand IQOS to four additional U.S.
markets and partner with retailers to make the devices
more broadly available over the next 18 months.
IQOS, which is owned by Philip Morris International Inc and marketed
in the United States by Altria, received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval to be marketed as a
modified risk tobacco product in July.
Altria is among the first U.S. companies to reinstate earnings forecasts
and said it expects full-year adjusted earnings of $4.21 to
$4.38 per share, compared with a profit of $4.21 per share in 2019.
The company said it plans to boost profitability by cutting cigarette
production costs, even as it continues to spend money on developing
smokeless tobacco products such as nicotine pouches.
Still, Altria’s forecast was lower than its prior outlook, which was
withdrawn due to the uncertainties around the pandemic’s economic impact.
Analysts on average expect 2020 earnings of $4.29, according to IBES data from Refinitiv.
The company’s revenues net of excise taxes fell 2.5% to $5.06 billion in the second quarter,
beating analysts’ estimates of $5.04 billion.
Excluding items, Altria earned $1.09 per share in the quarter, above analysts’
estimates of $1.06 per share.
Altria’s shares rose a little over 1% in afternoon trading.

LONDON, Dec 6 (Reuters) – British American Tobacco’s admission that its
U.S. cigarette brands will be worthless within decades
has ramped up pressure on the company to prove it can better compete in alternatives like vapes.
Earlier on Wednesday, BAT put a 30-year lifetime on some U.S.
tobacco brands’ value, taking a $31.5 billion noncash impairment.
The move marked the first time a tobacco company has acknowledged that
hugely profitable brands have no economic future.
While the maker of Lucky Strike and Dunhill cigarettes has been investing in alternatives like vapes to counter the decline, it lags behind rival Philip Morris
International in the transition, leaving its shares trading
at a vastly lower price-earnings ratio than those of
its main competitor.
«What really matters to the stock is how quickly you can replace (cigarettes) with alternative routes for consumers to get a nicotine hit and how profitable that will be,» said Chris Beckett,
head of equity research at Quilter Cheviot, a BAT shareholder.
BAT says its newer products will break even years ahead of schedule.
Its vape business is growing, along with its oral nicotine product, Velo, the market leader in Europe.
However, it faces key challenges.
In the critical U.S. market, authorities have rejected its application to sell
some key vape products and illegal disposable vapes have flooded the market, denting
sales of those products BAT is able to market.
The company is also under pressure from investors to catch up with rival PMI in another alternative, heated tobacco.
Heated tobacco devices heat up sticks of tobacco resembling cigarettes but do not burn them in an attempt to avoid harmful chemicals
released during combustion.
PMI’s IQOS product dominates this category with some 70% market
share. BAT’s rival proposition, meanwhile, lost market share in 2023 in terms
of volume, to stand at 18.2% in key markets, the company said, adding that
its volume and revenue growth decelerated in the
second half in a «disappointing» performance.
LATE ENTRY
It is harder for companies to generate profit from vapes due to intense competition, said Orwa Mohamad, analyst at Third Bridge.
BAT’s late entry into heated tobacco had left it at
a disadvantage and an aggressive pricing strategy aimed at winning share from IQOS had yet to bear fruit, he added.
Where PMI expects two-thirds of its net revenue to come from smoke-free products by 2030,
BAT’s ambition, announced on Wednesday, envisages only 50% of its revenue from
new categories by 2035.
Its slower progress versus PMI means BAT’s shares have gained little value so far from its
commitment to transition, trading at a price-earnings ratio only slightly above that of
rival Imperial Brands.
Unlike the others, Imperial has in recent years pulled back from heavy investments in new products to refocus on its traditional cigarette business, leaving a question mark over its longer-term sustainability.
At the same time, BAT is now falling short of Imperial on something investors have
long expected from highly cash-generative cigarette businesses: healthy dividends and
share buybacks.
Cigarette businesses are so profitable they do
not need to last beyond 30 years to make worthwhile investments, Beckett said, adding Imperial’s share buybacks are evidence
of that.
Imperial’s delivery on this core element of tobacco companies’ investment case has helped its shares outperform rivals in recent
years, rising 17% since the start of 2022. That compares with 1% for PMI’s stock, and
a decline of 13% for BAT.
BAT, meanwhile, disappointed the market on Wednesday when it said it
would need to reduce its leverage ratio further before buybacks
could resume.
A buyback would be «amazingly enhancing» to the stock,
Beckett said.
