Este incomprensible tesoro – la santísima y beatísima Trinidad – habita en el alma desde el momento del bautismo debe de cuidarse y valorar celosamente – el tesoro es el alma que vive en estado de gracia santificante y más aún el alma es morada de la Santísima Trinidad.Por esta razón, los santos predican, viven y enseñan unánimemente el renuncio al pecado— ¡en particular el rechazo al pecado mortal que es el mal más grande! En los Ejercicios Ignacianos, el primer grado de humildad es; preferir la muerte antes que cometer un pecado mortal. Santo Domingo Savio el día de su Primera Comunión tuvo como lema «Morir antes que pecar!» Santa Maria Gorretti se dejó apuñalar 14 veces, sufriendo una muerte de martirio, diciendo a su asesino: «¡Si hacemos eso, es pecado mortal e iremos al infierno!» Esta joven mártir no quiso que su alma dejara de ser morada de la Santísima Trinidad (que había recibido en el momento de su Bautismo).
Aun cuando una persona voluntariamente decide cometer un pecado mortal, y expulsa a la Santisima Trinidad de su alma, Dios es rico en misericordia y siempre presto a perdonar a todo aquel que se arrepienta, que confíe en su infinita misericordia y que regresa a Él por medio de la confesión sacramental. Qué consuelo tan inmenso son las palabras del sacerdote al concluir el Sacramento de la Reconciliación: «Yo te absuelvo de tus pecados en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo.» Amén.
Una de las notas características más destacadas de la espiritualidad del Carmelo es la inhabitación de la Trinidad en el alma del cristiano que vive en estado de gracia santificante — Carmelitas tales como Teresa de Avila, Juan de la Cruz, Isabel de la Trinidad, Benedicta de la Cruz (Edith Stein) y Teresa de Lisieux.
Únicamente cuando el alma interioriza sus potencias, se inmersa en Dios y cultiva el silencio y recogimiento en todo lugar y momento, es que se puede encontrar y contemplar al Dios Trino (y los Tres Divinos Huespede) que moran en el alma.
Santa Catalina de Siena, una de las Doctoras de la Iglesia, a menudo recurría a lo que ella llamaba su »celda interior». En esta celda podía encontrar a Jesús en su alma. Pero igual podía estar con dos Divinos Huéspedes – ¡Dios Padre y el Espíritu Santo!
