Primera lectura Lam 2, 2. 10-14. 18-19
El Señor ha destruido sin piedad
todas las moradas de Jacob;
en su furor ha destruido
las fortalezas de Judá;
ha echado por tierra y deshonrado
al rey y a sus príncipes.
En el suelo están sentados, en silencio,
los ancianos de Sión;
se han echado ceniza en la cabeza
y se han vestido de sayal.
Humillan su cabeza hasta la tierra
las doncellas de Jerusalén.
Mis ojos se consumen de tanto llorar
y el dolor me quema las entrañas;
la bilis me amarga la boca
por el desastre de mi pueblo,
al ver que los niños y lactantes desfallecen
en las plazas de la ciudad.
Los niños les preguntan a sus madres:
“¿Dónde hay pan?”
Y caen sin fuerzas, como heridos,
en las plazas de la ciudad,
y expiran en brazos de sus madres.
¿Con quién podré compararte, Jerusalén?
¿Con quién te podré asemejar?
¿O qué palabras te podré decir para consolarte,
virgen, hija de Sión?
Inmensa como el mar es tu desgracia.
¿Quién podrá curarte?
Tus profetas te engañaron
con sus visiones falsas e insensatas.
No te hicieron ver tus pecados
para evitarte así el cautiverio,
y sólo te anunciaron falsedades e ilusiones.
Clama, pues, al Señor con toda el alma;
gime, Jerusalén;
deja correr a torrentes tus lágrimas
de día y de noche;
no te concedas descanso;
que no dejen de llorar las niñas de tus ojos.
Levántate y clama al Señor
durante toda la noche;
derrama como agua tu corazón
en la presencia de Dios;
alza tus manos hacia él
y ruega por la vida de tus pequeñuelos.

Con martillos y mazos

En aquel tiempo, al entrar Jesús en Cafarnaúm, se le acercó un oficial romano y le dijo: “Señor, tengo en mi casa un criado que está en cama, paralítico, y sufre mucho”. El le contestó: “Voy a curarlo”.
Pero el oficial le replicó: “Señor, yo no soy digno de que entres en mi casa; con que digas una sola palabra, mi criado quedará sano. Porque yo también vivo bajo disciplina y tengo soldados a mis órdenes; cuando le digo a uno: ‘¡Ve!’, él va; al otro: ‘¡Ven!’, y viene; a mi criado: ‘¡Haz esto!’, y lo hace”.
Al oír aquellas palabras, se admiró Jesús y dijo a los que lo seguían: “Yo les aseguro que en ningún israelita he hallado una fe tan grande. Les aseguro que muchos vendrán de oriente y de occidente y se sentarán con Abraham, Isaac y Jacob en el Reino de los cielos. En cambio, a los herederos del Reino los echarán fuera, a las tinieblas. Ahí será el llanto y la desesperación”.
Jesús le dijo al oficial romano: “Vuelve a tu casa y que se te cumpla lo que has creído”. Y en aquel momento se curó el criado.
Al llegar Jesús a la casa de Pedro, vio a la suegra de éste en cama, con fiebre. Entonces la tomó de la mano y desapareció la fiebre. Ella se levantó y se puso a servirles.
Al atardecer le trajeron muchos endemoniados. Él expulsó a los demonios con su palabra y curó a todos los enfermos. Así se cumplió lo dicho por el profeta Isaías: Él hizo suyas nuestras debilidades y cargó con nuestros dolores.

25 Para concluir esta presentación es oportuno recordar el principio pastoral que enuncia el Catecismo Romano:
«El camino mejor es que el Apóstol […] mostró: Toda la finalidad de la doctrina y de la enseñanza debe ser puesta en el amor que no acaba. Porque se puede muy bien exponer lo que es preciso creer, esperar o hacer; pero sobre todo debe resaltarse que el amor de Nuestro Señor siempre prevalece, a fin de que cada uno comprenda que todo acto de virtud perfectamente cristiano no tiene otro origen que el amor, ni otro término que el amor (Catecismo Romano, Prefacio, 10).
El 27 de junio se celebra la Fiesta de Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro, patrona de los Padres Redentoristas y cuyo icono original está en el altar mayor de la Iglesia de San Alfonso del Esquilino, en Roma.
