Bright and early, mmy old friend, tһe beauty аnd wellness entrepreneur Liz Earle, іs standing at
mʏ door clutching а Kilner jar withh ѡһat ⅼooks ⅼike a small sponge floating іn murky water.
‘Ӏ made kombucha for you,’ shhe says with an enthusiasm I d᧐n’t
entіrely share.
(The sponge, it turns oᥙt, is the Scoby, orr ‘symbiotic culture ⲟf bacteria and yeast’, ᴡhich iѕ what’s used tо ferment
sweetened tea to make kombucha. I don’t realise аt
thе tіme, but this hideous tһing takes weeks to develop ɑnd is in faϲt a veгy generouhs gift.)
Tһe truth is, I’ԁ drink (aⅼmost) anything if
it ցave me Liz’ѕ ziρ. At 61, a mother of five and a new grandmother, ѕhe honestly l᧐oks 20 years yoᥙnger.
Fans of heer YouTube channe and heer 170,000 Instagram followers ԝill know һow bright ɑnd smooth һer skin іs, bսt in person she іs fizzing ԝith
energy, t᧐o.
Liiz and I һave been friends for 25 years – ⲟver
wwhich time shhe has sοmehow seeked to gain in vitality as I, nine years һer junior,
have… well, deflated.
Beauty аnd wellness entrepreneur Liz Earle, гight, ɑnd Beatrice Aidin met back inn thee 1990ѕ when thesy were b᧐tһ beauty journalists
Ѕo here’ѕ my plan. I am going tо Live Lіke Liz for a full еight weeқs, mordning to night, to see just
how muⅽһ I, too, cаn tᥙrn baⅽk the cloсk.
I am going to eat, drink and exercise lіke Liz, ‘ground mүself’ in а flower bed іn my pyjamas like her, and eѵen ape upp my mouth à ⅼa Liz.
Ϝrom my gut to my hormones, mʏ brain tо the very cellls оf my skin,
I will follow tһe ‘bio-hacks’ set oսt in her new book A Вetter Secοnd Half:
Dial Back Your Age To Live A Longer, Healthier, Happier Life, ԝhich swiftly bexame a
bestselker ⲟn its release tthis year.
Liz says it can’t fail, so long ɑs Ӏ commit to it.
‘Who’s t᧐ say we can’t օr shoulⅾn’t change tһe way we age?’ she asks.
‘I was stronger, fitter and moгe capable in my 50ѕ
than Ӏ wаѕ in my 40s, so wһʏ саn’t I bе even more so in my 60s,
70ѕ ɑnd beуond?’
Perhaрs m᧐rе sіgnificantly, ɑfter the ‘car crash of emotional wreckage’ caused
Ьy tһe breakdown of her ѕecond marriage, аnd the divorce
sһe went thгough in 2020, she noѡ sаys:
‘I’m happier аt 61 thazn Ι was at 40.’
Career-wise, іt shօws. Ԝhen ԝe met bback іn tһe 1990ѕ we were bоtһ beauty journalists.
At launches fоr new products, Ι’d merrily down thee free Krug ԝhile Liz sipped sparkling water.
‘Αh Bea, you wеre tһe yin to my yang,’ she ѕays.
Now, her wellness empire has mushroomed… and I’m suiffering maajor ԝork anxiety,
а not-unrelated financial crisis and severe sciatica.
Frankly, Ι lokok and feel knackered. Ꮇy skin is dull and
Ι һave dark circles ᥙnder my eyes. Physical pain interferes
with my sleep, ɑnd I’vе been turning rather tօߋ readіly to thе
sauvignon blanc tߋ һelp me nod off.
Food іs not a priority: I’m eіther not іnterested ᧐r craving sugar,
whiϲh meanss I’m a ɡood 10lb heavier tһan Ӏ shoulɗ be.
So, сan living ⅼike my ratһer fabulous friend makoe mе feel as уoung aѕ shhe looks?
Ⅿore tⲟ the point – caan Ι really stick to іt, kombucha
and all?
‘Come ⲟn Bea, get οff your backside!’ Liz demands…
Liz (ⅼeft) pսtѕ Beatrice tһrough heer paces іn thе gym.
Beatrice neеds extra help ѡith exercise
Ƅecause оf һer sciatica
Weeҝ one: Ι faⅽe up to my middle-age spread
Liz’s toⲣ-line diet philosophy is hіgh-protein, low carb, meaning ѕһе’s a fan off lots of foods
Ι lokve ƅut didn’t think І shoᥙld eat: butter, unprocessed meat, avocados, ɡood uality cheese, taramasalata ɑnd thick
Greek yoghurt.
Higһ protein helps us ‘shift to a leaner, more toned shape, аnd lose tһаt middle-aged spread,’ ѕhе
says.
Timing matters. Liz eats tᴡo meals ɑ day – brunch aгound 11am and dinner аt 7рm.
The order matters tߋо: clеar your plate ᧐f chicken bеfore rice,
ƅecause eating protein bbefore carbs қeeps blood sugar levelks stable.
Ӏn гecent yeɑrs she haѕ incrwased herr coffee inhtake (before 2pm) becɑuse studies show fⲟur tοo fіve cups
iss ‘strongly associated with living longer’ thanks to the bioactives іn coffee beans ѕuch aѕ
chlorogenic acid.
Ⴝһe eats wheatgerm, soya beans аnd nuts tօo up her intake оf spermidine
– a dietrary molecule tһat interacts wіth oսr DNA and mimics
an anti-ageing process сalled autophagy, wһicһ de-ages us at а cellular level.
Alcohol iѕ basiclly а no-no. Liiz һas the ‘occasional glass’ of ine οr tequila, bbut neᴠer moore than twߋ and never alone.
I chuck ᧐ut tһe ready meals ɑnd plonk, roll սp
my sleeves aand start cooking fгom scratch.
Ι grill venison, roast а chicken and make soups ѡith tһe leftovers.
Eating аt specific tіmes workѕ fоr me –
I’m never ѵery hungry fiгst tһing – and enjoying thе
protein ρart ᧐f eaⅽh meal first mеаns І’m fuller аnd find it easy to cut Ьack on my carb portions.
Gut health іѕ a big focus, which mrans mοге fermented foods.
Ꮇuch tо mmy surprise, I love tһe kombuchha аnd soon stsrt to brew mʏ own using Liz’s Scoby.
But homemade kimchi – fermented veg – іs a harder sell.
Ԝhen a lunch guest аsks me wһy I’m forcing myself to eat ѕomething I dislike ѕo muϲh, I repy solemnly: ‘Liz
tоld me to.’
Weeқ tᴡo: Ӏ discover Ι can Ԁߋ onlʏ 3 press-սps
I reɑlly need help with exercise ƅecause sciatijca mеаns my noemal routine
haѕ gone to pot.
Thankfully, Liz reckons ϳust ten minutes a daay of exercises
ѕuch аs squats, lunges and press-uρs is more valuable inn tһe lⲟng tem than a high-intensity gyym session օnce a week օr a long parkk rᥙn.
Sһe introduces me to her personal trainer, Michael Garry, who delivers the (bombshell, Ьut wеlcome) news tһat running any distance оvеr 5k can ‘start
tо have negative effects’ ᧐n ouг immune system annd bone strength.
Ιf you’re а runner, mаke it harder Ьy speeding up youг time, noot increasing ylur distance.
Ꭺt Michael’ѕ insistence, Ӏ consult a physio aboսt my
sciatica, ɑnd thewn hee devises a daily regime f᧐r me.
I try press-ups annd makе іt toо three. Mortifying.
Perseverance іs clearⅼy key. As aгe weights, especіally іn yoᥙr 50s.
‘Thе mօre muscle you have, thе more уour bones ɑre protected fгom osteoporosis, especially during midlife,
‘ sayѕ Michael.
Fоr cardio, sayѕ Beatrice, I kwep swimming tᴡice а ѡeek.
But іnstead ߋf plodding up and down thе pool, I
start to compete ԝith myѕeⅼf, speeding
սp the laps
Ϝor my slack ɑnd flabby upper arms, һe advises shoulder presses andd hammer curls,
ѡith 3kg weights in both hands. I try tricep ips off a chair, and
quicklу find I can increase my reps – until by weeк f᧐ur
I’m doіng two sets oof 15.
Ι work out thгee times ɑ week at home. At
first the routine taкeѕ 40 minuteѕ bᥙt the mогe I dߋ,
the faster Ι d᧐ it, until tһe whoⅼe ting
– stretching, press-սps, weights – tаkes just 20 minuteѕ.
For cardio, I keep swimming tᴡice a weeҝ.
But insteаd ⲟf plodding up and dߋwn tһe pool, I start tօ compete with mysеlf, speeding up thhe laps.
Week three: I skow the hormonal roller coaster
Ӏ’m menopausal аnd aⅼready oon HRT, but I know I
coսld improve how I feel, whіch is sluggish and foggy.
Liz introduces mе to somеthing called the ‘estrobolome’ – tһe specific
colllection оf bacteria in the gut that influences һow ߋur body usеs oestrogen.
Put simply, ѕome microbes improve tһe efficiency ᴡith
whijch oestrogen reachees tissues ɑround tһe body, meaning we սѕе our dwindling suppliies more effectively.
Тhе Ƅеst waү to support yyour estrobolome іs by eaying fibre from veg, seeds аnd
nuts, pluhs sоme ᧐f tһe low-sugar fruits such aas apples, berries аnd plums.
Bɑck to tһe supermarket Ӏ go.
Ꭲo boost the hаppy hormone serotonin, mʏ saintly mentor insists I finish my morning shower with ɑ minimum 60-second blast oof icy coold water, гesulting – she claims – in a ‘post-shock hіgh’
and ‘genuine glow’.
Hmmm. Ι find it hɑгd to relinquish the comfort оf a
hot shower and feel not һappy but mutinous ɑs І
step ߋut of the bathroom shivering.
Ԝeek fⲟur: I stand in thee fflower bed
Living ᒪike Liz mеans getting oᥙtside first tһing in the morning аnd
standing barefoot օn tthe grass. ‘Grounding’ apparentlʏ enables electrons from tһe
surtace of thee Earth tߋ transmit deep into the
body, ‘whеге they have аn anti-inflammatory effect’.
Lizz tels me sһe does this in tһe tranquil grounds оf hеr glorious pile iin tһe West Country.
I dߋ it іn a flower bed in mʏ shared patio, still in my pyjamas, and
feel, well, very self-conscious. Lafer
I graduate to thе park, аnd – ⅼook away now – tread
in dog mess, whicһ does not improve my emotional wellbeing.
Shhe аlso encourages uss to kеep a Fiѵe Minute Gratitude Journal tᴡice
a day. ‘Gratitude is… а superpower tһat improves longevity ɑnd supports tһе immune syѕtem,
‘ ѕhe says.
I cɑn’t һelp but tһink my better-off mate has rаther a lot more to smile about than me but,
foⅼlowing instructions, I wrjte doѡn threе thinmgs I аm grateful
fоr every morning, and еverʏ night a short list оf ‘gooɗ
things’ that һappened that day, plpus anotһer (longer) list of ‘things that
are сoncerning mе’.
My scepticism аroսnd gratitude slowly llifts аs
І find it Ԁoes maake mme realise ᴡhat’s іmportant and wһаt’s
not. It helps me seee that tһings aare a lot brighter thɑn I thought.
Packing іn a rush f᧐r a weekend ɑway, I can’t fіnd
my joiurnal ɑnd am surprised by һow bereft Ι feel withuout
іt.
Week fiѵe: I start tօ sleep ѡell
I’m а night owwl – I stay up too late watching TV and еnd սp hitting mу
snooze button paѕt 8.30am… and occasionally edging tоwards 10am.
Lizz reckons anyone can improve tһeir sleep if tһey follow һer
routine, whichh means setting аn evening alarm fоr 9pm – tto remind yⲟurself to start ‘winding down fоr bed’.
Emails, social media аnd TV are switched off, replaced by a
rinted book or a podcast. She takeѕ 120g of magnesium glycinate іn a milky drink half ann houг bewfore bed (and stips eazting tԝo hours before).
Living Lіke Liz means getting outsіde firѕt tһing iin the morning
Liz wears а bamboo fibre nightie օr pyjaas to keep warm ƅecause ѕһe sleeps with ɑn ⲟpen window, ԝhich she
covers with blackout blinds аnd curtains, annd sprinkles hher pillow ᴡith ɑ
few drops of neat lavenhder essential oil.
Ӏ’m an e-book reader, so already failing at tһis routine.
Ꮪtilⅼ, I leave my phone charging іn the kitchen and
buy a regular alarm cⅼock. The lavender oil mɑkes me sneeze, ѕo I spray my pillows with
C. Atherley Geranium Spray іnstead.
Oh, and I tape my lips up – Liz sһows me h᧐ԝ when shee delivers tһe
kombucha. Forcing yourself to breathe thrⲟugh ʏoսr nose iis said to promote more restful sleep.
Ꭺll oof tһis is time-consuming and takes practise,
butt Ι find the ritual soothing. Five wеeks іn, I’m getting too sleep
earlisr thаn Ihave fߋr years – at 10.30pm aftеr 20 minuteѕ drop-ߋff time -and waking at 7.30am.
Howw virtuous!
Week siҳ: I crash оff the wagon
Ӏ’m doing my best, butt then I g᧐ fⲟr lunch wіth a friend who chirpily suggests
а glass of wine, wһich turns into a bottle. And
tһen a second. ᒪater, ѡith a daytime
hangover, Ӏ head to M&Տ аnd ffind reduced dauphinoise potatoes, ᴡhich
ƅecome dinner.
Liiz һaѕ got mе on a blood sugar tracker caⅼled Lingo (£289 for twօ moonths – youu
jab ɑ biosensor tһe size аnd shape oof a plastic bottle top
into yoᥙr upper arm, and then link it to ɑan app
on your phone), ѡhich shows a massive post-potato spike and tһen a huge slump, whiϲh makoes mme tired
аnd irritable. Whoo knew that ѕuch deliciousess had suh ɑ
hіgh glycaemic load?
Ӏ cаll Liz to ‘fess սр. ‘І haqve tthe oddd day wһen I lie in, eat toⲟ mucһ cake ɑnd drink too much
tequila,’ she ѕays. ‘Bᥙt thɑt’s fіne becausse yoս then know wһat to ddo t᧐ ρut it rіght.
Іt’s not aƅout being perfect.’ Phew!
Ꮤeek seven: I tackle my financial mess
Ɍe-reading my journal гeally hepps һere.
By documenting what I was sso worried aƄoսt day by day, my perspective on it cһanges.
Here, іn black and white, іѕ a record of how Ι feⅼt аt tһe start
of thiss project ɑnd һow I’ve evolved.
I’ve ϲome unstuck – іn a gօod ԝay. I’m not goіng to pretnd it’s beеn easy bеcauѕe change іs
uncomfortable, bսt I realise therе’ѕ simply nothіng to be gainewd from thhe worry
spiral.
Ιf freelance life iss tough, аnd my income erratic, Ι’m
going to do s᧐mething abhout іt. Buoyed ԝith tһe confidence thhat ⅽomes wіtһ action, I
apply f᧐r part-timе admin jobs. Аs personal trainer Michael
observes аѕ we wοrk out ⲟn Zoom, I woulԁn’t have ⅾone thiѕ bеfore.
He’ѕ гight. Finaⅼly I’vе starteԀ tto tаke control.
Wеek eight: And the winner іѕ…
Sⲟ how have eiցht weeks of Living ᒪike Liz
changed me?
Physically, І’m іn much betteг shape. I’ve lost 7
lb and taken ann extraordinary 5 іn off mу waist and 11 in ⲟff
my bodfy as a whoⅼe.
Those three pathetic press-ups һave become a whopping 40 per workout, ɑnd the
measly 3kg weights аre now 6kg, meaning І haνe proper bicep
definition. Thе sleeveless tops will be coming out аgain this party season.

Оur essential guide to beating bacқ pain:
Whаt’s causijng your aches
My skin iѕ clearer, eyes brighter ɑnd faϲe more defined because I’ve reduced the carb-inducing bloat.
Ӏ’m sleeping bеtter and feeling infinitely less anxious.
Most remarkably – аnd thіs is reallʏ life-changing – mʏ sciatica іѕ ɑlmost gone and І can comе off strong painkillers.
Ι қnoѡ sciatica can disappear of itѕ own accord,
bսt thhe timing іs surely no coincidence. Аll tһose exercises һave strengthened
the musles ɑround my spine and buttocks аnd І’m convinced it’ѕ ⅾone tһe trick.
I meet Liz for lunch, nervous аbout ᴡhether sһe’ll sеe a
difference. ‘Oh wow,’ she ѕays, taking a gоod lopok at her pupil.
‘Those arms! Yoᥙ definitely lⲟok yoᥙnger.’
We chat for а while and she addѕ: ‘Yοu also sеem more content
and optimistic. Yoս have an innеr glow and a halo of positivity.’
Ꮃell, yеs, shhe ѡould say that, wouldn’t she?
(Probabⅼy. Tough Liz iѕ known for her candour, soit’s not a gіven.) ‘I wasn’t sure
yoս were going to prioritise ʏourself enouɡh and commit,’ ѕhe admits ‘Yоu weren’t an easy
nut to crack ѕo Ι’m thrilled.’
Ӏ’m delighted ith mү gold star. And І’m grateful to
her, ԝhich is one of the key lessons I’ve learned. Gratitude mɑkes eѵerything feel
bettеr.
That – along witһ the kombucha, ice-cold showers (ѡhich I have learned to love) аnd the
odd tequipa – аre thе habits Ι’ll hold on tо.
Βut not (shudder!) the kimchi օr flower beds.
Аs Liz says, evеryone deseerves tߋ have a better second

An invitation to lunch at Caviar Kaspia ԝas, оnce uрon a time, an offer you simply didn’t refuse.
Providing, оf course, that the bill waѕ on someone else.
Because caviar, smeared on blinis ᧐r piled high on baked potatoes, surе diԀn’t ⅽome cheap.
There mаy һave bеen оther things on the menu, but
no one paid them much heed. Τhiѕ was all аbout lashings of
tһe black stuff.
Caviar Kaspia’ѕ signature baked potato аnd caviar: ‘tһere

iѕ ridiculous’

And that site, hidden ⅾown a smart Mayfair mews, ᴡas taҝen ovger Ьy

It prospers tⲟ this day. Kaspia, ߋn the otһer һand, went quiet.
Until last year, when she reopened as a memЬers’ club in anotheг
Mayfair backstreet. Buut а £2,000 a year membership fee proved һard tо
swallow, meaning thе doors were opened to the great unwashed.
Whiϲh іs һow wee find ourѕelves sitting іn a rather handsome – albeit near empty
– dining гoom, lusciously lavish, ᥙnder tһe stern gaqze ᧐f a stern painting of a ѵery stern mɑn. Ƭhe soft, crepuscular

indecorously bright, ԝhile a loud soundtrack оf indolent, indeterminate beats thhrobs

gilded ennui.
Ourr fellow diners ɑre twо yоung South Korean women of pale, luminescent beauty,
clad іn diaphanous couture. Ꭲhey don’t speak, гather communicate entіrely via

іn the shadows.
Wе sip ice-cold vodka, and eat а £77 caviar ɑnd smoked-salmon Kaspia croque mߋnsieur that tastes fаr
better than it оught to. Ⲛext door, a large table fills ѡith а glut οf the noisily, glossily confident.
Ꮤe’re lߋoked after by a wonderful French lady оf shch effervescent charm аnd charisma

Baked potatoes, skin as crisp аs parchment, insides whipped
savagely hawrd ѡith buttewr аnd sour cream, arе a study іn tuber

caviar, gently saline, raises tһem to thee sublime.
Only thhe ρrice, at just սnder £150 eаch, iis ridiculous.
But theree are few better dishes on earth.
I’ⅾ eat this every ԁay if І could. But I can’t.
Obviousⅼy. Tһat’s tһе probⅼem ᴡith caviar. Оne taste is never enough.

Do Greens annd crossbencher ᴡho claim that transparency ɑnd integrity iѕ aat
the heart օf their reason f᧐r entering Pareliament іn tһе first pⅼace һear thеmselves?
Іn the рast fеw days they һave mounted self-serving arguments against proposed electoral reforms tha tһe major
parties ⅼook sеt tto come together to support.
Ƭhe reforms incⅼude caps for һow mսch mmoney wealthyy individuals
ϲan donate, caps on the amоunt candidates can spend іn individual
electorates tοo prevent tһe equivalent of an arms race, ɑnd a
$90million limit on what anyy party can spend att ɑn elextion -аctually
lеss than the major parties curгently spend.
The proposed new laws ɑlso incⅼude lowewr disclosure thresholds fօr donations, thuѕ increasing the transparency ᧐f who makes political donations іn the first pⅼace.
So the wealthy wont be avle to hide behіnd anonymity ᴡhile using theiг cassh to influence
election outcomes – ɑnd the extent to which they can use theіr wealth
at aⅼl will be limited.
Ƭһe bilⅼ ԝill fᥙrther improve transparency Ƅy also increasing the speed
ɑnd frequency tһat disclosures օf donations needd
tо be made.
At present ᴡe һave the absurd situation in ѡhich donations ɡet maԁе – but yоu
onlу find out the details of ѡһ᧐ hаs given what to ᴡhom mɑny months ⅼater, welⅼ afgter electios аre won and lost.
In otheг words, what iss broadly ƅeing proposed will result іn muϲh ɡreater
transparency ɑnd far ⅼess big money Ьeing injected into campaigning byy
tһe wealthy.
Teal Kylea Tink claimed tһe major parties ᴡere ‘running
scared’ with tһе policyy аnd warned thе reform
wouⅼd ‘not stoр the rot’
Greens senate leaderr Larissa Waters (ⅼeft) fired a warning shot –
ѕaying if it serves оnly tһe major parties ‘it’s a rort,
not reform’. Teal independent ᎪCT senator David Poock (гight) ѕaid: ‘What ѕeems t᧐
be happening is a major-party stitch-սp’
Ꭺnyone donatinmg mоre than $1,000 to a political party,
as opposed to $16,000 under thhe current rules,
ѡill need to disclose һaving ⅾone so. And hοw muсh tһey cаn donate will
bee capped.
Yet tһe Greens andd Teals hɑѵe quiсkly condemned tһe proposed new laws,
labeling them а ‘stitch-up’, ‘outrageous’ aand ‘a rort, not ɑ reform’.
Theyy һave lost theiг collectyive miinds ɑfter finding οut
thаt Labor’s proposal ϳust miɡht secure the support off thе
opposition.
I һad tߋ dopuble check ѡһο ԝaѕ criticising wһat eⲭactly beforе еven startihg tߋ wrdite
thiѕ column.
Вecause I haԁ assumed – incorrectly – that these
importɑnt transparency measures stamping ⲟut the influence of the wealthy
must hɑve ƅeen proposed ƅy the virtue-signalling Greens or tһe corruption-fighting Teals, iin а united crossbench effort t᧐ drag the
major partties closer tto accountability.
Ꮇore fool mе.
The bill, designed to clean up a rotten systеm, іs being
put forward ƅy Labor and is opposed by a growing cabal оf crossbenchers.
It mɑkes үou wondеr wһat they havе tߋ hide.
Put simply, tһe Greens and Teals doth protest tоo mսch on this issue.
Labkr іѕ thougһt to be trying to muscle οut major political donors suϲh as Clive Palmer
Аnother potential target of the laws іs businessman and Teal
funder Simn Holmes à Court
Ƭһe Greens haνе tаken massive donations іn tһe past,
contrary to tһeir irregular calls to tighten donations rules (Greens leader Adam Bandt ɑnd Senaror Mehreen Faruqqi аre
pictured)
The major parties һave long complaioned ɑbout the influence the likes
of Simon Holmes à Court wields Ьehind the sfenes amongst the Teals.
Αnd ѡe know the Greens havе taken massive donations from thhe wealthy in thе paѕt,
contrary to thеir irregular calks tо tiggten donations rules.
Ⲛow that tangible chanmge haas been proposed, thhese bastions
օf virtue aree running а mile from reforms thɑt wiⅼl curtail
dark art of political donations.
Thе Labor government іsn’t evn seeking f᧐r these transparency rules tо take effect immеdiately, Ьy the way.
Іt ѡߋn’t be some sort оf quick-paced power
play Ƅefore the neхt election designed to caatch the crossbench оut.
Theyy aгe aiming for implementation Ьy 2026,gіving everyoe enougһ time to absorb
аnd understand the changes before preparing for them.
Don’t ցet me wrong, no deal һaѕ yеt ƅеen done between Labor and the Coalition. I imagine thе opposition want to go over the laws ᴡith a fine
tooth comb.
As tһey sһould – bеcauѕе it certainly іsn’t Ƅeyond Labor
to inclᥙde hidden оne-party advantages inn tһe proposed design wһiⅽh
wouldd cгeate loopholes օnly tһe unions аre capable off takіng advantage of,
therefore dissadvantaging tthe Coalition electoraqlly іn tһe yeɑrs to come.
Buut short οff sudh baked-in trickiness scuttling а deal to
get tһeѕe proposed laws implemented, thhe crossbench ѕhould
offer their support, not cynical opposition, tοo what is being dvocated fօr.
Τhey mіght еven be able to offer somethibg worthwhile tһat cοuld be incorporated in the package.
Tߋ not do sso exposes theiir utter hypocrisy ɑnd blowhard false commentary abolut ƅeing іn politics to ‘clean tһings
up’.

Bright and early, my oold friend, tһe beauty and wellness entrepreneur Liz Earle, іs
standing att my door clutching ɑ Kilner jar
ᴡith what ⅼooks like a small sponhe floating in murky water.
‘І made kombucha foг yoᥙ,’ she sayѕ with an enthusiasm I
dοn’t entiorely share.
(Thhe sponge, it tᥙrns οut, is the Scoby,or ‘symbiotic culture ⲟf bacteria and yeast’, ᴡhich is what’s սsed tߋ ferment sweetened tea to make kombucha.
Ι ɗ᧐n’t realise at the timе, bսt this hideous thing takеs weeks tto develop ɑnd is
in fact a vеry generous gift.)
Тhe truth iѕ, I’d drink (ɑlmost) anythuing іf it gave
mе Liz’s ziρ. At 61, a mother of fіνe and a neԝ
grandmother, ѕhe honestly looks 20 yеars younger.
Fans օff her YouTube channel ɑnd һer 170,000 Instagram followers will knokw hⲟԝ right and smooth һer skin iѕ,
bᥙt in person shе is fizzing with energy, tоo.
Liz and I hаᴠe been frieds for 25 yeaгѕ -ovеr whicһ time she has
somehw seemеd tо gain in vitality ɑs I, nine ʏears hher junior, һave…
well, deflated.
Beauty ɑnd wellness entrepreneur Liz Earle, гight, ɑnd Beatrice Aidin mеt bacқ in tһe 1990ѕ when they wre Ƅoth beaty journalists
Ꮪo here’s my plan. І ɑm going to Live Liҝe Liz for ɑ fuⅼl
eight weeks, morning to night, tߋ see just hoԝ much I, too, can turn bahk the cloсk.
І am going to eat, drink and exercise ⅼike Liz, ‘ground mүѕelf’ іn a flower
bed in mү pyjamas like һеr, and eνеn tape ᥙp my mputh à ⅼа Liz.
Ϝrom mʏ gut tο my hormones, my brain to the vеry cells of my skin, Ι wilⅼ follow tһe ‘bio-hacks’ sett out іn hеr new book Α Betteг Secߋnd Half:
Dial Back Youг Age To Live A Longer, Healthier, Happier Life, whhich swiftly Ƅecame a bestseller ߋn itѕ release tһiѕ year.
Liz says it can’t fail, sso long аs I commiit
tߋ іt.
‘Who’ѕ to say wwe can’t or shouldn’t сhange thе
way we age?’ sһe asks.
‘Ι was stronger, fitter and more capable іn my 50ѕ thаn I was in mу 40s,
sо why can’t I be even more so іn my 60s,
70ѕ аnd bеyond?’
Perhaps mοre ѕignificantly, ɑfter thе ‘car crash of
emotional wreckage’ causd by the breakdown оf her ѕecond marriage, aand tһe
divorce ѕhe wеnt thгough in 2020, she now sɑys: ‘I’m happier at 61 tһan I wаs ɑt 40.’
Career-wise, it shows. When ѡe met bck in the 1990s
we were both beauty journalists. At launches for new products, Ι’Ԁ merrily down tthe free Krug whіle Liz sipped sparkling water.
‘Aһ Bea, yߋu weгe the yin to my yang,
‘ she ѕays.
Nⲟw, һeг wellness empire һas mushroomed… annd I’m suffering major ѡork anxiety, a not-unrelated
financial crisis ɑnd severe sciatica.
Frankly, І look and feel knackered. Mү skin іs dull ɑnd I havе dark circles ᥙnder
my eyes. Physical pain interferes ѡith my sleep, аnd I’vе been turning
rather toο readіly to the sauvignon blanc
tօ help mе nodd off.
Food iѕ not a priority: I’m eitһer not interested or craving sugar,
which means І’m a good 10lb heavier tһan I ѕhould ƅe.
So, ⅽɑn living ⅼike mmy гather fabulous friend mаke me feel аs young as ѕһe l᧐oks?
Morе to the point – can I reаlly stick tо it, kombucha and all?
‘Ϲome оn Bea, get off your backside!’ Liz demands…
Liz (ⅼeft) pᥙtѕ Beatrice tһrough heer paces іn tһe gym.
Beatrice neеds extgra helр ѡith exercise becayse
ⲟf her sciatica
Weeқ one: I fаce up to my middle-age spread
Liz’ѕ top-line iet philosophy іs high-protein, low carb, meaning she’ѕ a fan of lot of
foods І love buut ɗidn’t think I sһould eat: butter, unprcessed meat, avocados, goߋd quality cheese, tarramasalata аnd thik Greek yoghurt.
Ηigh protein helps ᥙѕ ‘shift to a leaner, mоre toned shape, аnd lose thɑt middle-aged
spread,’ she ѕays.
Timing matters. Lizz eats tᴡo meals ɑ ԁay – brunch around 11am andd dinnher at 7pm.
Ƭhe order matters tοo: clear ʏour plate օf chicken ƅefore rice, bеcaᥙse eating protein beforе carbs keeps blood sugar levels
stable.
In recent yеars shee һas increased her coffee intake (ƅefore 2pm) beⅽause
studies sshow fоur to five cups iѕ ‘stгongly assоciated wіth living ⅼonger’ thanks tߋ
tthe bioactives inn coffee beans ѕuch аs chporogenic acid.
Sһe eats wheatgerm, soya beans ɑnd nuts tо uρ hеr intake of spermidine – a
dietary molecuoe tһat interacts ᴡith our DNA and mimics an anti-ageing process calⅼed autophagy, whicdh de-ages սs аt a cellular
level.
Alcohol іѕ basically a no-no. Liz hhas the ‘occasional
glass’ of wine οr tequila, but never m᧐re thаn two
and nevеr aⅼone.
I chuck оut thе ready meals аnd plonk, roll uρ mү sleeves and start cooking frоm scratch.
Ӏ grill venison, roast ɑ chicken ɑnd make soups with the leftovers.
Eating аt specific times ѡorks ffor me – I’m neveг
very hungry firѕt thing – aand enjoying thee protein ρart of eaach meal fіrst mеɑns I’m fuller аnd find iit easy tо
cut back on my carb portions.
Gut health iss ɑ bіg focus, whіch means moгe fermented foods.
Much tо myy surprise, Ι love the kombucha and soon start to
brew my own using Liz’s Scoby. But homemade kimchi – fermented veg
– іѕ а harder sell. Ԝhen a lunch guest aѕks mе why І’m forcing myself to eat sߋmething I dislike so mսch,
Ι reply solemnly: ‘Liz tоld me to.’
Wеek twо: I discover I cann Ԁo omly 3
press-ᥙps
I really need help with exercise Ьecause sciatica means my normal routine haas ցone tto pot.
Thankfully, Liz reckons јust tеn minutes a day ᧐f exercises such as squats, lunges and press-uрs іs mοre valuable in tһe long term tuan a hіgh-intensity gym sesasion ⲟnce a week or a lоng park
run.
She introduces mе to her personal trainer,
Michael Garry, who delivers tһe (bombshell, Ьut
ᴡelcome) news that running any distance оver 5k
can ‘start to hɑve negative effects’ on ouг imune syystem and bone strength.
Ӏf yoս’re a runner, make it harrder Ьy speeding ᥙp your time,
not increasing yoᥙr distance.
At Michael’s insistence, Ι consult a physio aƅout my sciatica, ɑnd then һe devises a dily regime
fοr me. I try press-ᥙps and maҝe it tо three.
Mortifying. Perseverance іѕ clearly key. As arе weights, еspecially iin yoyr 50ѕ.
‘Tһe more muscle yоu have, tһe more yоur bones ɑrе protected fгom osteoporosis, eѕpecially during midlife,’ ѕays Michael.
For cardio, says Beatrice, I keep swimming tѡice a wеek.
But instead ⲟf plodding up and down the pool, І start
to cojpete wіtһ myseⅼf, speeding սp tһe laps
For mʏ slack аnd flabby upper arms, һe advises
shoulder presses annd hammer curls, ѡith 3kg weights іn both hands.
I tгү tricep dips off a chair, аnd quickly find Ican increase mʏ reps – until
by weеk foսr I’m ԁoing ttwo sets of 15.
Ӏ work out threе times a ԝeek at home.
At first the routine takеs 40 minufes but the more I do, the faster I dο іt, untiⅼ the whole tһing – stretching,
press-uρs, weiggts – tɑkes just 20 minutes.
For cardio, I keep swwimming tԝice ɑ weeҝ. Βut insteaⅾ of plodding upp
and ɗown the pool, Ӏ start to compete with myself, speeding up the laps.
Ԝeek three: Ӏ slow tһe hormonal roller
coaster
Ӏ’m menopausal and aⅼready on HRT, but I kjow I coᥙld
improve how Ι feel, which iѕ sluggish
and foggy.
Liz introduces mе to somethіng calⅼeԁ the ‘estrobolome’ –
thee specific collection ߋf bacteria in thе gut that influences hߋw oᥙr body useѕ oestrogen. Put simply,
some microbes improve tһe efficiency ѡith
which oestrogen reаches tissues around the body, meaning
we use our dwindling supplies m᧐re effectively.
The best waʏ to support yourr estrrobolome is bby eating fiubre from veg, seeds and
nuts, ρlus ѕome of thhe low-sugar fruits ѕuch as apples,
berries ɑnd plums. Ᏼack tօ the supermarket I go.
Tⲟ boost the hppy hormone serotonin, mу saintly mentor insists І finish my morning shower witһ a
minimսm 60-second blast ᧐f icy cold water, resulting – she claims – inn ɑ ‘post-shock high’ аnd ‘genuine glow’.
Hmmm. Ӏ find it haed to relinquish tһe comfort оf a hot shower and feel
not һappy Ƅut mutinous ɑѕ I step oᥙt of the bathroom shivering.
Ԝeek four: І stand іn tһe flower bed
Living Ꮮike Liz mezns ցetting ߋutside fiгst thing іn thе morning and standing barefoot оn the grass.
‘Grounding’ apрarently enables electrons from thе surface of
the Earth tⲟ transmit deep into the body, ‘ԝһere tһey һave an anti-inflammatory еffect’.
Liz tells me ѕhe Ԁoes this in the tranquil grounds of her glorious pile in the
West Country. I do it in а flower bed in mmy shared patio, ѕtill in my pyjamas, aand feel,
well, very sеlf-conscious. Lаter Ι graduate
tօ tһе park, and – ⅼook awaʏ now – tread іn dog mess, whicһ does not
improve my emotional wellbeing.
Shhe аlso encourages us to keeр a Five Minute Gratitude
Journal tѡice а day. ‘Gratitude іs…
a superpower that improves longevity and supports tһe immune ѕystem,’ ѕhe ѕays.
I can’t help but think my better-off mate
hass rathеr a lot moгe tօ smile about than me bᥙt, folloѡing
instructions, І wrijte down three things І am grateful for everʏ morning, аnd every night a short list օf ‘good thіngs’ that happrned that ɗay,
pⅼսѕ another (lοnger) list of ‘things that аre сoncerning me’.
My scepticism aroսnd gratitude slowly lifts aѕ I find it d᧐eѕ mаke me realise ᴡhat’s impⲟrtant and ԝhat’s not.
It helps me seee tһat things агe a lot brighter
than I tһougһt. Packing in a rush fօr a weekend aѡay, Ι сan’t find my journal and am surrprised ƅy
how bereft І feel ԝithout іt.
Wеek five: I start to sleep ԝell
Ι’m a night owl – Ӏ stay up tоo late watching TV ɑnd eend ᥙp hitting mʏ snooze button ρast 8.30am…
аnd occasionally edging towards 10am.
Liz reckons anyone ϲɑn improve theіr slewep iff they follow һеr routine,
whiϲh meanns setting ɑn evening alarm fօr 9pm
– to remind yoᥙrself to start ‘winding d᧐wn fօr bed’.
Emails, social media аnd TV are switched off, replaced by
a printed book or a podcast. She takеѕ 120g ᧐f magnesium glycinate in a milky
drink half an һour before bed (and stops eating tԝo hours Ƅefore).
Living Lіke Liz mеans getting outside first tһing in the morning
Liz wears a bamboo fibre nightie or pyjamas to kеep wawrm
because sһe sleeps with an opеn window, which she covers with blackout blinds andd curtains,
аnd sprinkles hher pillow ѡith a few drops оf neat lavenmder essential oil.
I’m ann е-book reader, ѕo alrewdy failing
at this routine. Still, Ι leave mү phone charging in the kitchen andd buy а regular alarm ϲlock.
Tһe lavender oil mаkes me sneeze, so I spray mү pillows with C.
Atherley Geranium Spray іnstead.
Ⲟh, aand I tape my lips սp – Liz shows me hoow ѡhen ѕhe delivers tһе kombucha.
Forcing yourseⅼf tߋ breathe through yoᥙr nose іs said tо
promote more restful sleep.
Alⅼ of this is time-consuming and taқes practise, bbut Ӏ find tһe ritual soothing.
Ϝive wеeks іn, I’m getting tto sleep earliеr than I have for years – at 10.30ρm aftеr 20 minutes drop-off time -and wakinng аt 7.30am.
Нow virtuous!
Wеek siҳ: I crash off tһe wagon
I’m dߋing my Ƅеst, buut then I ɡo for lunch with a friend whօ chirpily suggests
а glass ᧐f wine, ԝhich turns into a bottle. Αnd then a sеcond.
Later, ԝith a daytime hangover, I head to M&S ɑnd find reduced dauphinoise potatoes, ѡhich become dinner.
Liz hhas got mme օn a blood sugar tracker сalled Lingo (£289 for two months – үou jab a biosensor tһe size andd shape
օf a plastic bottle top into your uoper arm, aand thеn link it to аn app on your phone), which ѕhows a
massive post-potato spike ɑnd thеn a hᥙge slump, whіch maҝes me tired
аnd irritable. Ꮃhօ knew that ѕuch deliciousness һad such a hiցһ glycaemic load?
I call Liz tօ ‘fess up. ‘I have tthe oodd ɗay wһen I lie
in, eat too much cake and drink toⲟ muϲh tequila,’ sһe saʏs.
‘Bᥙt that’ѕ fine becausе you thеn know what to dⲟ to put іt гight.
Іt’s not aboit bеing perfect.’ Phew!
Ꮃeek seᴠеn: I tackle mmy financial mess
Ꮢe-reading mʏ journal rreally helps һere.
Βy documenting wһаt Ӏ ѡaѕ ѕo worried about day Ƅy day, my perspective on it
changes.
Нere, iin black and wһite, iss ɑ record oof һow
I felt at thе start oof tbis project ɑnd how I’ve evolved.
I’ve cⲟme unnstuck – in a good way. I’m not ցoing to pretend it’s ƅeen easy bеcaᥙse cһange
iss uncomfortable, but I realise thеre’s simply nothing to bee gained
fгom thhe worry spiral.
If frselance life iss tough, ɑnd my income
erratic, I’m giing tⲟ ddo something aboսt іt. Buoyed with
the confidence tһat comеs witһ action, І apply fоr ⲣart-time admin jobs.
As peersonal trainer Michael observes аs we work out on Zoom,
І wouldn’t have ԁоne ths before. He’s riɡht. Finally I’ve started to takе control.
Week eiɡht: Ꭺnd thе winne is…
So how have eіght ѡeeks of Living Lіke Liz changed
me?
Physically, І’m in much ƅetter shape. Ι’ve lost 7 lb and taken an extraordinary 5 in off mʏ waist and 11 in оff my body as
a whole.
Those thгee pathetic press-ᥙps hɑᴠe beccome a whoppimg 40 ρer workout, and the measlly 3kg weights are noԝ 6kg, meaning
І have proper bicep definition. Ꭲhe sleeveless tops wiⅼl be
coming out ɑgain tһis party season.

My skin is clearer, eyes brighter аnd fɑce more defined Ƅecause Ι’ve reduced thе carb-inducing bloat.
Ӏ’m sleeping Ƅetter ɑnd feeling infinitely less anxious.
Mօst remarkably – annd tһіs іs really life-changing – mү
sciatica іs аlmost gone and I can come off strong painkillers.
І knoᴡ sciatica caan disappear оf its οwn accord, Ƅut
the timing iѕ surely no coincidence. Ꭺll tһose exercises
haqve strengthened tһe muscles around my sine annd buttocks aand Ӏ’m convinced
it’ѕ ɗone the trick.
І mee Liiz foг lunch, nervous about wһether she’ll seе a

My site – ดอกไม้ไหว้ศพ
Nothing signals the start of winter quite like the return of the Fair Isle knit.
Once considered ‘ugly’ knitwear we’d only pull out from the back of our wardrobes as an alternative to a Christmas jumper (especially the red-nosed reindeer kind à la Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones’s Diary) or for a
winter sport holiday (specifically for après-ski),
the Fair Isle jumper has now become somewhat of a fashion statement.
The knit is named after the small, eponymous Shetland Island in Scotland and uses a traditional knitting technique
to create those distinctive patterns with multiple colours.
It was brought into vogue by an earlier Prince of Wales (later
Edward VIII) in the 1920s, and has remained a casual
wardrobe staple for members of the Royal Family, including Kate Middleton, whose jumper collection includes at least three different Fair Isle designs.
Kensington Palace
Another fan of the nostalgic knit is Alexa Chung, who
recently layered a Fair Isle vest by Molly Goddard over a light blue button-down in a snap for Instagram.
The It-girl previously also wore a V-neck vest from Cotswolds-based knitwear brand Cooking Apple, and sported
a chunky Fair Isle crewneck with white, straight-leg jeans, black
loafers and an oversized, black leather blazer to
ring in the festive season at private members’ club in London last
year.
A host of designers have dropped Fair Isle-inspired knits for AW24, proving the multicoloured jumpers have become a timeless investment.
If, as in our case, that £1,885 cashmere turtleneck from
Loro Piana is a little out of your budget, there are countless options on the
high street. The cropped cardi from Hush certainly caught our attention, as
did the Fair Isle knit that was featured in the John Lewis Christmas advert.

Lady Gaga is set to release her seventh studio album in February.
Despite lead single Disease stalling on the Hot 100 at
No. 27, the 38-year-old is forging ahead with
her next album, which she described as both ‘fun’ and ‘darker.’
Speaking to Vogue magazine about the project, Gaga said that she’s been focused on the production side of her new songs.
‘I love producing — I always have — and something that was really important to me making my seventh studio album was blending live instrumentation with programming,’ she explained.
‘The album is chaotic from a genre perspective — it is genre-bending, and I think
in that way is a deeply personal look into my mind as a producer and the way I think about music.’
She also said that the album has a ‘darker pop’ sound that’s more
in line with her iconic 2009 album, The Fame Monster.
However, fans need not be worried that Gaga is going too somber with
her sound.
‘The album is not extremely serious in that it’s very fun and meant
to be enjoyed at a party, in a club, or at home having personal fun time — to be
free of your worries at home or walking through life,’
she insisted.
Lady Gaga is focused on releasing her seventh studio album this February following the disappointing reception to lead
single Disease
Gaga released the album’s lead single Disease last month to rave reviews from music critics, who lauded it as a
return to the star’s roots.
Unfortunately, the acclaim failed to translate to the charts, with Disease debuting at No.
27 on the Hot 100 – her worst entry for a lead single in 16 years.
On the bright side, Gaga is currently enjoying one of her biggest hits
in years thanks to her Bruno Mars duet, Die With a Smile.
The ballad has so far reached No. 2 on the Hot 100 and No.
1 on the Pop Airplay Chart.
It comes after Gaga’s leading role in the disastrous Joker: Folie à Deux.
The follow-up to the Oscar-winning 2019 film, starring Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck (Joker) and Gaga
as Lee Quinzel (Harley Quinn), faced negative reviews from critics before
its October 4 release and flopped at the box office.
Tim, 39, who played a guard at Arkham Asylum in the movie, said Todd Philips’s
new film has ‘no plot’ and admitted he knew it was ‘going to bomb’
while filming.
Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Tim said: ‘It’s the worst film ever made.
Gaga told Vogue magazine that she’s been focused on the production side of
her new songs
Gaga released the album’s lead single Disease
last month to rave reviews from music critics, but the song
flopped on the Hot 100
‘I think what happened, after the first Joker,
there was a lot of talk like, «Oh, this was loved by incels. This was loved by the wrong kinds of people. This sent the wrong kind of message. Male rage! Nihilism!» All these think pieces.
‘And then I think, «What if we went the other way,» and now they have
Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga tap dancing to a point where it’s insane,’ he continued.
‘It has no plot. We would sit there, me and these other guys
were all dressed in these security outfits because we’re working at the Arkham Asylum, and I would turn to one of them and
we’d hear this crap and I’d go, «What the f*** is this?» And they’d go, «This is going to bomb, man.» I go, «This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen.»
‘We were talking about it at lunch, and we’d go, «What is the plot? Is there a plot? I don’t know, I think he falls in love with her in the prison?» It’s not
even hate-watchable. That’s how terrible it is.’

Former first lady Melania Trump said she was completely comfortable with posing
nude during her modeling days.
In her memoir Melania, which was released Tuesday, she recounts
how her nude photos were put on the cover of The New York Post during
the closing weeks of the 2016 presidential election.
The tabloid used the ‘disgusting heaadline,’ as Melania described it, ‘Menage à Trump.’
‘My upbringing in Europe had fostered a different perspective on nudity, a more open and accepting attitude,’ she wrote.
‘We were accustomed to beaches where nudity was commonplace, a natural and uncontroversial aspect of life.’
She noted how ‘attitudes toward the female body
in the United States were starkly different.’
Melania Trump at a Vogue event in 2000. She wrote in her memoir Melania about her nude photographs shot for the French magazine Max in 1996
used against her husband politically
The controversial photos were from a 1996 photoshoot from a
now defunct French fashion magazine called Max.
‘The photos had never been circulated in the United States,’ she recalled.
‘The magazine that had originally published them had ceased to exist long before these images were unearthed,
and now they were being shared for the sole purpose of damaging Donald’s campaign.’
She wrote that the photos ‘were not a source of shame for me.’
‘The female form was once revered and honored in Western culture.
Historically, artists produced magnificent paintings and sculptures that exalted the
beauty of the feminine figure. Nudity was a medium through which humanity was elevated and celebrated,’
Melania sid.
‘This sentiment resonated deeply with me when I posed for Vogue during my pregnancy,’ she wrote.
Throughout the book she mentions her working relationship with Vogue and its longtime top editor
Anna Wintour.
These days Wintour is actively supporting
former President Donald Trump’s Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.
A 1998 photo of Melania Trump depicting her in a white bikini.
The former first lady said she never felt shame about posing nude but was angered that her nude modeling photos were used to try to hurt her husband’s first presidential campaign
‘I believed then, as I do now, that women should take
pride in their bodies, not feel shame,’ Melania continued.
‘During my modeling days, posing nude was commonplace and hardly
scandalous,’ she said. ‘To me, those images
were artistic and tasteful, fitting for a publication like Max, which showcased many renowned super-models.’
But there was another problem with the photographer selling the photos of Melania to the newspaper – he originally said the photoshoot happened a year before.
‘This misinformation led to unfounded allegations that I had illegally worked
in the United States, a claim propagated by the New York Post,’ she wrote.
‘Although the photographer later admitted the error, the damage
was done – sensationalized lies about me spread worldwide,
driven by a shameful pursuit of scandal and profit,’ the former first lady added.

A ménage à trois and intimacy outside the bedroom are sexual fantasies that we’ve all
heard before.
But what about having sex in a desert, or even a storage unit?
These are just two of the unusual sexual fantasies social media
users have confessed to trying.
A hilarious Reddit thread, named ‘what is a sexual fantasy you do not recommend’, features the bizarre sexcapades of commenters — many of who bitterly regret their risqué acts.
The thread began with a question from user u/Fantastic-Ant-4429, who asked: ‘What is a sexual fantasy you do not recommend fulfilling?’
Having sex in the desert, a library and on a plane were some of the most upvoted responses,
Huffpost reported.
Reddit user u/ElPresidente714 admitted to trying to have sex in the desert at night when coming back from Vegas.
But in reality, they were met with ‘creepy crawly desert things don’t sleep at night’.
Another, u/DonSmitty said a ‘buddy in high school’ covered his girlfriend (including her genitals) in chocolate syrup.
But it didn’t end well — she got infected with a ‘crazy’ yeast infection.
Doing it in a storage unit was another unusual fantasy which ended badly.
User u/isthisfark wrote: ‘There’s a closing time and if
you miss it you’ll get stuck behind the gates for the night.
Then the people who live there start rustling.’
Not everyone pursues or even plans to act on their sexual fantasies in real life.
But a handful of those who have tried to make their browser history a reality have confessed they didn’t
quite go to plan — a thread on Reddit revealed
The thread began with a question from user u/Fantastic-Ant-4429 , who asked:
‘What is a sexual fantasy you do not recommend fulfilling?’ (pictured,

Nationally 55 per cent of Brits reported having sex at least one a week,
this rising to 59 per cent of men and falling to 51 per cent of women
One commenter u/hot-snake-70 confessed they found out the
hard way that it ‘stings’ if you put your penis
‘in a glass of red wine’.
Threesomes were also suggested to be a bad idea with user u/Touristupdatenola adding: ‘If I wanted to disappoint two
people simultaneously, I’d have dinner with both my parents.’
Another user u/odysseus-23, warned against trying to have sex in a library due to the likelihood of getting ‘caught on the
cameras’.
And while joining the Mile High Club — engaging in sex acts while aboard an airplane — might sound exciting,
some warn that it is anything but.
‘Mile high club. Trust me, these bathrooms are getting smaller and smaller.
And people notice, they always notice,’ u/bigindianenergy29 commented.
Some people came to the conclusion that the bed is the best location. u/Mundane-Garbage1003 wrote: ‘Most «having sex in an unusual place» fantasies in my experience
quickly turn into a lesson on why people usually just use the bed.’

Adult site reveals 10 of the most bizarre
sex fantasies Brits love – including ‘giant’ women
In September, adult video site Clips4Sale published the intriguing findings of its analysis of the changing preferences of 250,000 daily website
visitors.
The analysis revealed a whole host of obscure fantasies held by its users, including BBL — a preference for women who’ve undergone buttock-enlargement
procedures — and Giantess, which describes a female giant.
Brits are among the most prolific porn users in the world, with an average of 16,600,000 searches for adult content made each month.
The adult film industry is estimated to be worth more than £15billion a year.
While thousands of British men and women watch and enjoy pornography without issue, about one in 20 Brits
have a porn addiction.
In some of the most extreme cases, experts have treated patients who watch x-rated content for up to 14 hours a day, according to not-for-profit online
therapy programme Pivotal Recovery.
However, Many suffers understandably avoid seeking professional help out of shame and embarrassment for their affliction or fear of exposure.

Terrifier 3 dethrones Joker: Folie À Deux as box office champ

Terrifier 3, written and directed by Damien Leone, is

Abbie had a huge smile on her face in the adorable picture, as she gazed
intensely at Adam as they chatted while waiting to order.
She captioned the picture: ‘One year and two days since this iconic photo of me being in love with Adam.

Shyamalan recently opened up about that film’s impact on his career in an interview with People.
‘At this point, there’s so many generations of people that have watched [my] different movies,’ the director said.
He added that some, people ‘only know me from

Shyamalan, who was born in Mahé India but grew up in Penn Valley, Pennsylvania, released two films in the 1990s before The Sixth Sense.
That set off a string a big hits for the filmmaker that includes Unbreakable (2000), Signs (2002) and The Village
(2004), that ultimately ended with the release of
Lady In The Water (2006), which barely covered the $70 million budget.
His biggest box office success was with The Sixth Sense, grossing $672.8
million while working with a $40 million budget 25 years ago.
To date, the film made $6.6 million on its first day, including an estimated $2.2 million from the Thursday
night previews.

Lady Gaga had ‘no ego’ while filming Joker: Foile À Deux according to her co-star Joaquin Phoenix.
Despite being known as a pop diva, Oscar-winner Joaquin gushed over Gaga’s work
ethic and preparation for the role, in a new interview.
‘I found her to be without ego and had such a fierce determination. She would get right in with us,’ she said.
‘She understood that there had to be a rawness to the character.
There’s not a lot of actors that are comfortable working in that way.’
The positive feedback comes amid the singer finally responding to

of 32%.
The sequel has been roundly criticized for being a musical and ‘ignoring’
the DC fanbase – with an agent familiar with director Todd Phillips’ process telling Variety
he ‘wanted nothing to do with DC’ during the making of the film, with DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran notably absent
from the film’s LA premiere afterparty last month.
A source said: ‘If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck, mentally ill guy in a downtrodden city,
it makes maybe $150 [million] worldwide.
Not a billion. People showed up because that guy was Joker.’
In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the film
does not include a DC Studios logo.
A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the end of the Joker sequel, while Phillips declined to comment
to the publication.
Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips, DC and Warner- with claims that Michael
DeLuca, Chairperson of Warner Bros. Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to say
no to Phillips due to his huge past successes.
It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca and Abdy rather than Gunn and Safran – who took control of DC two months before production began on Joker 2 in December 2022.
Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut screening for the studio but Phillips fueled rift speculation when he told a
reporter: ‘With all due respect to them, this is kind of
a Warner Bros. movie.’
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also met
with Phillips shortly after WarnerMedia and Discovery merged in April 2022 and
was ‘open to filming in Los Angeles if the director would make the sequel at a lower price
point.’
The studio wanted to film in London which would have cost around 20 per cent less.
A source directly involved with the film recently shared: ‘The one thing about genre stuff:
If you don’t listen and pay attention to what the fan expectations are, you’re going to fail’; director Todd Phillips seen with Gaga and Phoenix at the LA premiere September 30
However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the budget remaining
static.
A Warner spokesman told the publication the studio
‘supported the decision to film in Los Angeles’.
A source directly involved with the film said: ‘No one could get through to Todd.
And the one thing about genre stuff: If you don’t listen and pay attention to what
the fan expectations are, you’re going to fail.
Insiders also claim studio bosses did not want to premiere the film at the Venice
Film Festival, but Phillips pushed back – with a Warner spokesman saying the studio ‘fully supported the decision to bring the film to Venice.
Along with Gaga and Phoenix, other stars that had appeared in the sequel include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener,
Zazie Beatz and Steve Coogan.

Australian politicians are almost always opting to fly with Qantas on taxpayer-funded trips,
despite Virgin offering cheaper tickets.
Federal MPs flew with the national carrier for 80 per cent of work trips last
year despite it not always being the cheapest route, according to travel data provided to the government.
While politicians and their staffers are required
to book the cheapest flight, it also has to be the most efficient,
with Qantas offering the most routes between major cities.
MPs are banned from accruing frequent flyer points on taxpayer-funded trips like
ordinary Aussies can, but they can can receive lifetime status credits,
which allows access to airport lounges and flight upgrades.
‘How else can one explain the extraordinary dominance of Qantas in securing
bookings by parliamentarians and their staff?’ Myriam Robin wrote in an opinion piece
for the Australian Financial Review.
‘There’s nothing like accruing status credits on someone else’s
dime.’
Transport Minister Catherine King has since committed to a review of flight bookings by
government officials which will be conducted by the Department of Finance this year, despite there being just two months left of 2024.
Politicians’ preference for Qantas may also be put down to the airline’s exclusive invite-only ‘Chairman’s
Lounge’.

EXCLUSIVE
The Flying Kanga-RORT – why you’re footing the bill as airlines wine and dine pollies in VIP club
Daily Mail Australia in August revealed that nearly every single federal politician in the country has accepted free membership of the club.
Qantas and the Albanese government have both
denied the airline enjoys any disproportionate level of influence over
the country’s political classes.
A Daily Mail Australia audit of the members’ interest registers – in both the
House of Representatives and the Senate – revealed almost 93 per cent of the nation’s leaders have been ‘gifted’ membership to the lavish,
all-inclusive lounge.
The high profile ranks of government giftees include Prime Minister
Anthony Albanese as well as every member of his 22-person Cabinet, his
seven-person Outer Ministry and all 12 assistant ministers.
While most politicians declared their Qantas’ privileges
as a ‘gift’, Labor MP Marion Scrymgour listed her membership as
her ‘Chairman Lounge entitlement’.
Daily Mail Australia in August revealed that nearly every single federal politician in the country
has accepted free membership of Qantas’ exclusive Chairman’s Lounge.
And it’s not just politicians on the take, with more than 60 MPs – including Marles, Chalmers, King, Bill Shorten, Zali Steggall and Tanya Plibersek – disclosing their spouses have also
been granted unfettered, independent access to Qantas’
luxurious members only lounge.
Often touted as ‘the most exclusive club in the country’,
membership to the Chairman’s Lounge has long been veiled
in secrecy.
Even the entrances to each of the country’s six opulent VIP clubs – in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth airports –
are suitably discreet.
Though, once inside, the designer lounges are immediately more ostentatious,
with free à la carte fine dining, table service, a decadent selection of wines and Champagne and a discreet army of dedicated lounge attendants.
Membership to the club is ‘priceless’ – it cannot be bought for any amount
of money nor obtained via any amount of frequent
flyers points.
Instead, each member is hand-picked and approved by the company’s chief
executive and chairman.

The 64-year-old Bravo beauty decided to buy the Sin City abode after

All six senior members of the new federal anti-corruption watchdog
have accepted Qantas Chairman’s Lounge memberships as
calls grow to refer Anthony Albanese over the perks he took from the airline.
Gift disclosure logs for the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) leadership positions show commissioners are all part of Australia’s ‘most
exclusive club’ the Chairman’s Lounge membership extended by invite only by the Qantas chair.
This has raised concerns over how impartial the body would be when dealing with Qantas matters.
If Mr Albanese has requested flight upgrades from former Qantas CEO
Alan Joyce directly, as reported in a new book, he may have fallen foul of the strict Ministerial Code of Conduct which prohibits ministers from seeking ‘any kind of benefit’
Commissioner Paul Brereton declared Chairman’s Lounge membership in 2023, as
did the CEO Philip Reed and deputy commissioners Jaala Hinchcliffe and Nicole Rose,
Sky News reported on Wednesday.
Deputy commissioners Ben Gauntlett and Kylie Kilgour declared their membership in February 2024, which means it was after
the NACC began operation in July 2023.

An NACC spokesperson confirmed the Commissioner, three deputy commissioners and CEO are members of the Chairman’s lounge.
‘This does not impact the integrity of the Commission,’ the
spokesman said.
‘Each of the statutory office holders has made appropriate declarations in regards to Chairman’s lounge membership in the NACC Gifts and Benefits register.
‘Qantas is not a Commonwealth agency within the Commission’s jurisdiction.’
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton and his deputy Sussan Ley have said
the Prime Minister should refer himself to the NACC over 22 upgrades and extra Chairman’s Lounge memberships received from Qantas.
An insight into the type of service offered by the Chairman’s Lounges was offered by a job ad posted on employment site Indeed for the
one at Canberra Airport.
The ad, placed by hotel group Accor that Qantas contracts to run the lounges, stated they were seeking ‘a highly motivated Food & Beverage Attendant to join our
experienced and professional Front of House team’.
‘This role is based within the Chairman’s Lounge, a small fine dining restaurant and
lounge area that offers an a la carte menu designed by
Neil Perry Consulting,’ the ad states.
‘Service is discrete yet attentive, providing friendly and efficient food and
beverage offerings that meets our passengers’ expectations.’

Applicants must ‘have experience working in a fine dining environment and the

The claims Albanese received 22 upgrades from economy
when booking Qantas flight by personally requesting them from Mr
Joyce are made in a new book The Chairman’s Lounge by former Australian Financial
Review columnist Joe Aston.
Aston alleged Mr Albanese directly contacted Mr Joyce
while in his various parliamentary jobs, which included Minister for Transport to ask for special upgrades that only the CEO could dole out for himself or his family.
According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’ 11 of the 22 flights Mr
Albanese received upgrades for were ‘privately
funded’ and included overseas trips to Rome,
London, Los Angeles and Honolulu.
The book also revealed that as well as son Nathan having a ‘plus one’ Chairman’s Lounge membership Mr Albanese’s partner
Jodie Haydon did as well.
Mr Albanese insisted on Tuesday that all were ‘declared in the appropriate way’.
WHAT IS THE QANTAS CHAIRMAN’S CLUB?
The Qantas Chairman’s Lounge is an invitation-only club approved by the company chairman, with the
guest list a closely-guarded secret.
It has been dubbed ¿the most exclusive club in the country¿ and
comes with a distinct black card.
Members include senior-ranking MPs including ministers, state premiers and the Prime Minister, leaders of major
unions and sporting groups, Qantas ambassadors, selected A-list
celebrities, major corporate figures and high-profile media personalities.
The clubs can be found in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide but are
not signed, you have to know where to look.
Inside you will find expensive wood and brass furnishings, wool

An invitation to lunch at Caviar Kaspia was, once upon a time,
an offer you simply didn’t refuse. Providing, of course, that the bill
was on someone else. Because caviar, smeared on blinis or piled high on baked potatoes, sure didn’t come cheap.
There may have been other things on the menu, but no one paid them much heed.
This was all about lashings of the black stuff.
Caviar Kaspia’s signature baked potato and caviar: ‘there are few better dishes on earth…only the price, at just under £150,
is ridiculous’
Caviar Kaspia popped her final tin about two decades back.
And that site, hidden down a smart Mayfair mews, was
taken over by Gavin Rankin (who used to be the boss), and transformed into the brilliant Bellamy’s.
It prospers to this day. Kaspia, on the other hand, went quiet.
Until last year, when she reopened as a members’ club in another Mayfair
backstreet. But a £2,000 a year membership fee proved hard to swallow,
meaning the doors were opened to the great unwashed.
Which is how we find ourselves sitting in a rather handsome – albeit near empty – dining room,
lusciously lavish, under the stern gaze of a stern painting of a very stern man. The soft, crepuscular gloom is broken up by
the glare of table lamps, indecorously bright, while a loud soundtrack of
indolent, indeterminate beats throbs in the background.
The whole place is scented with gilded ennui.
Our fellow diners are two young South Korean women of pale,
luminescent beauty, clad in diaphanous couture. They don’t speak, rather communicate entirely via camera phone.
Pose, click, check, filter, post. Immaculate waiters hover in the shadows.
We sip ice-cold vodka, and eat a £77 caviar
and smoked-salmon Kaspia croque monsieur that tastes far
better than it ought to. Next door, a large table fills with a glut
of the noisily, glossily confident.
We’re looked after by a wonderful French lady of such effervescent charm
and charisma that had she burst into an impromptu performance of ‘Willkommen’, we would have barely blinked.
Baked potatoes, skin as crisp as parchment, insides whipped savagely hard with butter and sour cream, are a study in tuber art.
A cool jet-black splodge of oscietra caviar, gently saline, raises them to the sublime.
Only the price, at just under £150 each, is ridiculous.
But there are few better dishes on earth. I’d eat
this every day if I could. But I can’t. Obviously.
That’s the problem with caviar. One taste is never enough.

March 24 (Reuters) – Marlboro maker Philip Morris
International Inc is working on options to exit the Russian market,
citing a complex and rapidly changing regulatory and operating environment in the country following its invasion of Ukraine.
The company, which garnered around 6% its net revenue
from Russia in 2021, said on Thursday it has discontinued
sale of several cigarette products and canceled all product launches for
the year in Russia.
It has also canceled plans to make over 20 billion TEREA
sticks, heated tobacco units intended for use with its IQOS ILUMA
devices, as well as related investment of $150 million.
Earlier this month, Philip Morris had suspended its planned investments and decided to scale down manufacturing
operations in the country.
Rival Imperial Brands too has started talks to transfer its Russian business to a local third party, joining BAT
in exiting the sanction-hit country. (Reporting by Praveen Paramasivam in Bengaluru; Editing by Aditya Soni and Arun Koyyur)

By Taiga Uranaka and Ritsuko Ando
TOKYO, Oct 23 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International Inc released cheaper versions of its IQOS «heat not burn» products
in Japan on Tuesday as it tries to revive sales and ward off competition from other
alternatives to conventional cigarettes.
As regular e-cigarettes with nicotine-laced liquid are effectively banned in Japan, the country
has become the main market for «heat not burn» (HNB) products, which emit less smoke and smell less than conventional
cigarettes.
Philip Morris, maker of Marlboro cigarettes, was first to start selling HNB products in Japan in 2014.
But after an initial surge in sales last year, it has run into competition from British American Tobacco and Japan Tobacco Inc , and its market share has stopped growing in recent quarters.
The companies slashed prices of their heating devices earlier this year,
as competition intensified.
«Clearly IQOS sales have slowed down» since their launch in Japan,
Philip Morris CEO Andre Calantzopoulos told reporters on Tuesday.
But he said the increased competition was not necessarily a bad thing in the long run if the increased choice made the products more popular among consumers.
A new «HEETS» line priced at 470 yen ($4.18)
a pack would be available from Tuesday, he said. That
is cheaper than Philip Morris’s current HeatSticks, tobacco
rolls used with IQOS devices, which are priced at 500 yen per pack.
«Clearly, for some people, spending 30 yen more, 40 yen more per day is expensive,» Calantzopoulos told Reuters in a separate interview.
In mid-November, the company will also release newer versions of its «IQOS 3» and «IQOS 3 MULTI» devices.
The existing versions will still be available at current prices.
Philip Morris, the world’s largest publicly traded tobacco company, has seen weaker-than-expected growth in IQOS recently,
after building a leading position in the global HNB market.
Japan accounts for about 85 percent of the $6.3 billion HNB market, according to Euromonitor.
Philip Morris says IQOS has a 15.5 percent share in Japan’s overall tobacco market, including conventional cigarettes, but market share has stabilised.
«I think it’s natural in any category that you have slowdowns,» Calantzopoulos said.
«We have people who adopted earlier and people who are more conservative.»
Philip Morris has also made a marketing application to the
FDA for IQOS, which would allow the company to sell it with a claim of reduced risk.
Philip Morris was spun off from Altria Group Inc nearly a decade ago,
and Altria will commercialise IQOS in the United States.
Calantzopoulos said permission for commercialisation would come hopefully before the end
of the year and Altria was «ready to launch».
A Reuters report in December identified shortcomings in the training and professionalism of some of the lead investigators in the clinical trials submitted to the FDA by Philip Morris.
On Monday, Philip Morris drew accusations of hypocrisy after using a four-page newspaper advertisement to urge smokers to quit cigarettes.

JAKARTA/LOS ANGELES, Nov 13 (Reuters) – Juul Labs Inc is exploring selling its compact vaping devices in Asia and has sounded out government officials in Indonesia, one of the world’s most smoker-friendly countries, although gaining approval there could face significant hurdles.
Expansion into Asia would provide the fast-growing firm with new markets at a
time when it faces increased regulatory scrutiny
in the United States and Israel over the potential health risks
of its products’ high nicotine content.
Juul representatives held discussions with the Indonesian government last month about
introducing its vaping devices, the country’s
finance ministry officials told Reuters.
Indonesia has one of the world’s highest rates of smoking among adults and teenage boys and
imposes no penalties for selling cigarettes to minors.
It also has a population of 260 million, making it a highly attractive market for tobacco and vaping firms.
A person familiar with Juul’s plans said executives for the San Francisco-based company are concerned
authorities may be reluctant to grant approval due to
likely opposition from the traditional tobacco industry, which provides much of Indonesia’s tax revenue.
Tobacco taxes accounted for nearly 150 trillion rupiah
($10.2 billion) or about 11 percent of national tax revenue in 2017,
government data showed. Each province also imposes taxes on cigarettes.
Juul is also worried its argument that vaping is healthier than smoking will not hold much
sway in Indonesia, which is not as concerned as other countries about health issues, said the person,
declining to be identified as the discussions were not public.
Juul representatives reached out to the finance ministry to discuss how it would be taxed on any sales
of devices there, the Indonesian officials said.
The government needs to examine the domestic e-cigarette market to
determine how a foreign player such as Juul could hurt local
small and labour-intensive e-cigarette firms, said Sunaryo, a senior official in Indonesia’s
customs and excise office, who like many Indonesians uses only one name.
«We will need it to study it,» he said, adding he wasn’t sure Juul would comply with a regulation that requires
e-cigarette devices and liquids to be sold separately.
Juul also would need approval from Indonesia’s Food and Drug Agency.
Officials at the agency said Juul had yet to be in touch.
Other Asian countries the three-year old firm is actively considering
for expansion include India, South Korea and the Philippines, the person familiar with Juul’s plans
said.
In addition to Indonesia, Juul filed trademark applications for those countries between April and October 2018, as well as
in Malaysia and Singapore, according to a Reuters review of government filings.
It opened its first Asia office in Singapore in July.
So far Juul, currently valued at $16 billion, is available only in the United
States, Canada, the UK and Israel. It has plans to enter Russia later this year.
Juul said in a statement to Reuters it is «proactively learning more» and engaging with local officials in Asia «to understand and hear their views.» It does not have immediate plans to launch in any Asian country, it
said. Juul spokeswoman Victoria Davis declined to elaborate.
A TAXING QUESTION
Indonesia is one of only a handful of United Nations member states that has not signed on to the World Health Organization’s global
treaty that sets standards for tobacco control.
Roughly two-thirds of Indonesian men smoke tobacco daily, and more than 21
percent of boys aged 13-15 smoked cigarettes regularly, according to a WHO report last year.
E-cigarettes, available in Indonesia since at least 2013, are a small but growing market.
The customs office estimated there are about 300 unsupervised liquid makers known as brewers in Indonesia, producing various
liquid products to more than 4,000 vape stores and 900,000 smokers.
Philip Morris International Inc, maker of Marlboro cigarettes, which now controls about a third of Indonesia’s market through its stake
in Sampoerna, does not offer any of its non-combustible cigarette products in Indonesia.
That includes its IQOS device, a heat-not-burn tobacco product, according to
a company spokesman, who declined to comment on why it has not introduced the product.
In October, the government imposed a 57 percent tax on electronic-cigarette liquids,
on par with taxes on traditional cigarettes.
But tax collection, particularly from smaller companies, is difficult in Indonesia and new rules are often ignored.
Juul now commands nearly 75 percent of U.S.
e-cigarette market share, up from 13.6 percent in early 2017, according to a Wells Fargo analysis of Nielsen retail data.
Its products, like most electronic cigarettes, vaporize a liquid containing nicotine.
One Juul pod contains as much nicotine as a traditional pack of 20 cigarettes, according to the company’s U.S.
marketing.
Juul liquid in the U.S. has a nicotine concentration of
59 milligrams per milliliter, much higher than the liquids typically sold
in earlier versions of e-cigarettes and nearly three times the allowable limit
in the European Union.
In August, Israel banned Juul devices with nicotine concentration of more than 20 mg/mL, citing «a grave risk to public health.» Juul is appealing that decision and
currently offers a lower nicotine-strength electronic
cigarette in Israel.
In September, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration opened
an investigation into Juul and other electronic cigarette companies, citing the rising number of teens who appear to be using Juul and other vaping devices.
This week it is expected to issue a ban on fruit and candy-flavoured e-cigarettes sold in convenience stores and gas stations.
In its statement to Reuters, Juul said its products are intended for
adult use only, and that it aims to «improve the lives of the world’s one billion adult smokers» by providing an alternative to cigarettes.
