1. LA ORACIÓN. Al percatarse que alguien está pasando por un periodo de desolación, ¡rece por esa persona! Dice san Ignacio, que la desolación es ese estado del alma en donde la fe, esperanza y caridad se encuentra débil. La persona se siente triste y deprimida, tibieza en el servicio de Dios, una inclinación a cosas bajas, terrenas y sensuales, siente la tentación de ‘tirar la toalla’, de abandonar la lucha. Por cierto, todos pasamos por este estado; aún Jesús pasó por esto en su agonía cuando oraba en el jardín de Getsemaní. Cuando se encuentre con alguien en este estado, rece un Avemaría por él o ella y una corta y fervorosa oración al Espíritu Santo. Estas oraciones, dichas con fervor y fe, ¡pueden disipar la nube de desolación!
2. ¡SONRÍA! La sonrisa es una señal clara de pertenencia a Cristo. La sonrisa refleja la alegría presente en el fondo del alma. Aunque es cierto que la tristeza es contagiosa, igualmente es cierto que la alegría es contagiosa, especialmente mediante ¡el simple gesto cariñoso de una sonrisa!
3. PALABRAS AMABLES Y ALENTADORAS. Se podría decir que nuestras palabras son como un ascensor. Si pulsamos el botón «arriba» el ascensor sube, si pulsamos el botón «abajo» el ascensor ¡baja al sótano! Las palabras tienen el mismo efecto. Palabras negativas y poco caritativas pueden arrastrar hacia la tristeza y la desolación. En cambio, una palabra alentadora y positiva — como el ascensor que sube — ¡puede levantar el espíritu! ¿Por qué no seguimos las Reglas sobre el discurso de san Buenaventura: «Debemos abrir la boca en tres ocasiones: Para alabar a Dios, para acusarnos a nosotros mismo de nuestras faltas y para edificar al prójimo.» ¡Gracias! san Buenaventura. Este es un consejo excelente para ser un verdadero Bernabé — ¡un hijo/hija que alienta!
