Father Broom in his homily on the great feast day of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross encourages us to contemplate the Cross of Jesus Christ by which the whole world was saved. St. Ignatius says that our contemplation of the Cross has two effects – to show us the gravity of sin and to demonstrate the depth of Christ’s love for us.
We can renew this contemplation many many times each day when we make a reverent, slow, and fervent Sign of the Cross. Every time we do this prayer and gesture with love, we remember that because of our Baptism- in the name of the Father, Son ,and Holy Spirit – we are Temples of the Trinity. We also remember Christ’s great love for us on Calvary.
